To local no doubt about it, but what about to international? Due to congestion? Or is it TM is not competent enough for managing the network well?

The effect of changing from ADSL to fiber is in the region of 10ms, whether you are connecting across town or around the world. Your ping to a Malaysian server might go from 20ms to 10ms, and your ping to a server in London might go from 350ms to 340ms.

Any other difference you see is because of routing and has nothing to do with the fiber technology per se.

I don't know man, all this ranting about how our broadband sucks and how it is lagging behind other countries.... So ... other countries broadband so perfect? is the grass REALLY greener on the other side?

The fact that people complain everywhere doesn't mean that things are equal everywhere.

People complain about the heat in Germany, that doesn't mean it's as hot as it is in Malaysia.

One of my clients is on Comcast and use it for a few weeks every year when I visit. There is no comparison to TMnet. Sure, it has problems, but as a Streamyx customer, I would kill to have the problems that Comcast users have. Customers in other countries have much higher expectations, and will complain about much more minor issues. If Comcast provided service like Streamyx, they would have gone out of business years ago.

I am actually already in the process of compiling a list. You want some source? Yea, here you go
For your chart, here is what I am mainly used to:

http://www.upc.nl/internet/

Ranging from 5mbps for 19 euro, to 120mbps for 71 euro. No cap.

And you can really get those speeds (of course, the server at the other end has to cooperate). Using the 60mbps package I could get 8MB/s downloads from the USA. 700MB ISO file in a minute and a half.

When you compare with TM's offerings you also have to consider that the effective speed is much lower than the advertised speed for most non-local transfers.

Thanks, saves me googling around for ISPs, it can be surprisingly difficult laugh.gif

Well, I can't tell how good the service is, so I just assume it'll all be about the same, and base them on package price and average household income to see how expensive broadband is to these people. Not comparing the level of service actually gives tmnet an edge, and if they still can't compete base on that handicap, it just shows how horrible our internet service is.

This comment only applies when there actually *is* grass on our side biggrin.gif

I dunno about you, but to me it feels like bare earth (maybe some lalang) over here when it comes to services like broadband.

TM is GLC. 1st and 2nd largest shareholder are Khazanah and KWSP which totals up to a bit less than 50% of total shares.
Unifi uses part of Government money to buildup, i.e, our money, our mom and dad's money. Why do we not have the right to complained
I'm sure you read this few pages back.

Andohbtw, AFAIK, There were other people who were interested in taking up the the HSBB project, but it was 'awarded' to TM. So basically, the G is telling TM, 'here's another new monopolistic service for you to control. And TM decided to make it harder for other competitors to join in by telling them you gotta offer 'value added service' or we won't sell you access. Besides, they are behaving like how you expect a monopolist to behave. By refusing to unbundle IPTV and tells you they are selling digital lifestyle service? What tahi lembu is this.

Nice speed

But I think if everyone do this 24-7, tmnet is definitely going to cap hsbb next year sweat.gif

if it's your mommy's or daddy's money, u don't have the right to complain. it's not yours at the 1st place.

btw, the reason the government gave the rights to TM because they believe TM is the ONLY company here that is able to deliver this project & willing to spend that much money on a project this big. do u think p1 has the money to spend on something like this? haha.
it's the government who wants to give the rights to TM. so why are u blaming TM for getting the privileges?
