yea your right, but as what has been said in tmcorp twitter the new fair usage policy will be implemented in 2011.

correct me if im wrong.

Yeah, but as u can see, they can change the policy based on DEMAND! So rite now since many people request to lifted out the CAP, they already lifted it out, though its for short period.

alloo bro,

kalau u rasa susah sgt xpayah la subcribe,

nak bising2 buat apa...buat malu ja.....kalau xmampu xpayah laa subcribe...

bukan nya TM paksa ambil pun..

Yeah, and actually those who mocking at here are not even in the Unifi area yet. tongue.gif

Anyway, they have their right to voice out their opinion coz in the future, they also will experience Unify in their area biggrin.gif

But for the price, I think its good, where to get "Internet+IPTV+free call to Fixed line" at RM149??

Now the streamyx+Astro pon already exceed the above price.

It was already mentioned on the official HSBB thread that UniFi will not be capping until much later during the year or next year, during this period they'll be doing "monitoring of bandwidth usage" only.

sure la that wan. until end of this year is like TRIAL
right now only a few res areas covered bangsar, subang, TTDI, etc

rest all planned to be Q3/Q4 this year wink.gif

so?

right now, not many people, their network is ok. Q3/Q4 when more people subscribe as more areas are covered.
of COURSE TM will exercise FUP so that UNIFI can take on ALL THESE NEW CUSTOMERS without UPGRADING ANYTHING biggrin.gif

U're wrong. For the new area, the implementation of cabling is on process, which means its totally new backbone, seperated from the existing one (sorry can't provide source, read somewhere in newspaper before, but forgot which newspaper)

PETALING JAYA: Good news. The download cap on Telekom Malaysia’s UniFi high speed broadband service packages has been suspended.

The telco made the announcement on the Twitter microblogging site today and said it made the decision after taking into account public feedback on the cap.

“NO volume cap 4 all #unifi packages 4 now. Decision due to public feedback. TM will only monitor usage pattern 4 time being (sic),” read the tweet.

A spokesman for Telekom Malaysia told In.Tech that the telco, however, does still reserve the right to enforce a download limit to ensure all UniFi subscribers receive equal service quality.

Yesterday, many Malaysians complained on Twitter about the cap. They were disappointed because the cap would restrict the daily amount of data they can download via the high speed broadband service. (See report at http://bit.ly/ddk67k.)

They were also disappointed to learn that if the cap was exceeded, their connections would be throttled down to about 10% of the purchased speed. UniFi is available in 5Mbps (megabits per second), 10Mbps and 20Mbps packages.

With the latest announcement by Telekom Malaysia, many people are rejoicing. Among them is communications consultant Justin Then, who said he’s happy to note that Telekom Malaysia listens to consumers.

“Capping our high speed Internet access doesn’t make sense, if the Government wants Malaysians to seek out knowledge and be innovative,” he said.

A Twitter user, who asked to be identified only as Flo, said she’s glad Telekom Malaysia has decided not to employ the cap for now.

“We are paying a premium for technology that offers super high bandwidth, so a daily cap shouldn’t be applied. There’s no value in that; we would be better off with regular broadband,” she said.

backbone?? eh local traffic we got more than enough. its "DARK FIBER". not enough light passing through biggrin.gif
intl traffic. now that we dont have enough of.

NOW. can the experts comment?

IS TM able to DIFFERENTIATE between INTL and LOCAL usage by the users?
why? i ask because local traffic cost almost nothing to TM and yet their CAP includes local+intl.
so is it impossible or cost prohibitive to make that distinction?

provide ways to make the distinction. give us an example.

if you cant then you can already answer your own question.

it's probably a combination of both. All caps are managed by the AAA systems so to link the systems with the routers are quite challenging if not impossible with current technology. so a blanket rule would be the most straightforward.

i think tm can and has already implemented a mechanism to differentiate classes of internet users at their international gateways so in a way this would address the issue. local traffic would probably never be subjected to congestion provided the local backhaul are overprovisioned.

LOL, I like the fact they are removing the cap (temporarily) after the full forced feedback from the public.

it is at least a silver lining for a lot of people looking to enjoy this service.

but i think the principle is still the fact that they can still curb your data per day that is the major crunch, imagine this scenario...

"Building a highway, 5 lanes long, no traffic, we can travel at 200km - 300km (if u own the wheels) and then you find out that you are only allowed to drive up to 30KM to 120KM after that no road usage for you." at that rate you cannot even hit Penang from KL..LOL

As far as we know TM will definitely impose cap on the line, i don't mind but at least give us a reasonable cap matching our package not the crazy cap of 60GB on 5Mb line per month. I hope before they reach my area, the issue regarding cap have been clear in black & white. So we know what we are getting since they impose 2 year contract on us.
