QUOTE(PoorMan @ May 10 2010, 10:03 PM) If I were you, I'll wait for the 50V20 and see the comparison side by side. It's quite a sizable expense and you want to be sure you got what you want. Hi, i was there in the Homedec as well. I agree , the 50U looked like a pale comparision to the V20. However, when i asked the sales guy to turn down the brightness of the 50U to "zero/middle settings", the quality improved significantly and i would dare to say, not far off compared to v20. The salesman then quickly upped the brightness by about 20 points left it at that. No sure if its a sales ploy , i.e more commision with the v20 , or a standard practice. Anyway, I bought the 50U and now waiting for my unit .......... and trying to find ways to sell off the BD60 unit. From what I saw at Homedec, the V is much brighter and eye-popping. PQ is very good and it has 1080 lines moving picture reso. They had this demo to show motion and on the V20, there is less blur whereas the worse was the LED LCD D series which was beside the V20. The 50U was somewhere in the middle in terms of motion resolution.. In all fairness, the 50U was OK but too bad they placed the V20 beside it. But then, that's me ... I'm in no hurry. |

The U20 series is supposed to be the replacement for 2009 S10 model. The performance should not be that much worse off. The only thing that got cut back was the moving picture resolution (U series is 900 lines whereas the S series is 1080 lines). I didn't quite understand that measurement until they played that moving test demo thingy.I haven't actually made the jump yet. So, let us have some review when you get your unit, ya? |

Had to go for a update course today at JB and decided to go to Singapore
Went to Harvey Norman Raffles Boulevard and they had both U50 and V50 side by side. U50 2799 (wrong price earlier) and V50 3299 (best price 3099). The picture quality was nearly the same. V50 will be available May 18th onwards. U50 available already. V50 Malaysia stil no info. Panasonic Malaysia is the best |

Initial reports coming out of the new VT series Panny is very good. Black levels better than 8G Kuros, slightly behind 9G Kuros. Colour reproduction better thatn Kuros for blue. Other colours are the same. Gamma not that great but the best the Panny's have put out. Less dithering meaning a less noisier picture that some associate with Plasmas. Ability to go brighter (but this I am not sure how much more than the Kuros) on full white screen meaning real competition to the super bright LCDs. This is really good news! I am now sure that next years Pannys will exceed Kuro 9G once and for all and we will have a new king! I know when my next upgrade will be.... |

don't praise it too much or we might see a sudden increase in price the VT50 i saw at Best Denki was indeed good but its a Japan model i think. Lets hope that what we will be getting is not some water down version This post has been edited by idoblu: May 13 2010, 12:42 PM |

Lets hope that what we will be getting is not some water down version For the higher end models, they typically do not have different versions. Same as the Z series last year and the V series from last year. Anyway, the one problem is the rising blacks and floating blacks. This still needs to be sorted out. I'm just happy to see that Panny is at least still upping the ante on the high end sets. I am not keen on 3D I just want them to keep improving on their black levels and fix the gamma issues as they should. |

QUOTE(HornyAngMoh @ May 13 2010, 01:26 PM) May I know what is this 'rising/floating black' issues? How do I detect them? Does it affect my old Panny Plasma Th-50PY700??? Floating black is when in dark scenes, u suddenly feel like someone turned up brightness control one notch. I am not sure if ur set is effected by it, it seems more prevalent in the latest series.Tq very much for the advice. Rising blacks is the design that Panny made on the voltages that increases black levels with time. What this means is that ur black levels when u bought them were better then when the set ages. It is known that Panny has been doing it since 10G but in the 12G they made the voltage changes too drastic within the 1st 1000hrs that caused people to notice it. It is possible that for the older gens the rise was gradual. My opinion is if u r happy with ur set and do not see black level degradation, drop the matter and enjoy ur set. |
