I think built-in graphics from the mobo also can. But if you want to bitstream TrueHD etc, then the ATI 5450 discreet card is a must.

what is the screen resolution supported in dell zino? want to hook up my hdready crt tv to dell zino if possible, via a pc to tv converter (which supports up to 1600x1200 resolution).
*
Why would you want to use the PC to TV convertor? I'm sure you would not have problems to connect directly. I believe the Zino can support resolutions up to and including 1920 x 1080.

He is asking about Bluray playback of course it is a TrueHD

if normal MKV a build in Ati 4330 will do... but hey look at Zino it is so cheap might as well throw a few upgrades for future proofing...

coz my crt tv only have component/RCA video/S-video port. so i guess component cable shld give the best video quality in this situation. therefore the pc to tv converter is used to connect from my pc (or future dell zino) using vga port to component video

True. If I was starting out, the Zino presents as a very viable option.

Anyway, I'm also playing Blurays. I don't have any HDMI AVR and rely on soundcard downmix to stereo. sad.gif Still can play lah. Not to say that I cannot. biggrin.gif

can play but you cant do DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD the purpose of getting blurays is to enjoy picture and sound quality

but yeah you can play blurays on a Hardware accelerated graphic cards now days but your experience is not optimized lah... furthermore if you upgrade to MXM cards you are future proofing your unit as MXM card can be upgraded (MXM is a adapter designed by nvidia for easy replacement and upgrades)

I think current AMD chipset still cannot handle HD audio bitstream.

If u need a HTPC that can bitstream HD audio, look for Intel HD55 chipset motherboard and paired it with Core i3 cpu, no need to buy additional GPU, Intel Integrated Graphic is good enough liao. smile.gif

Yeah, I'm aware of this. Only thing coming from AMD / ATI that can do bitstream is the ATI 5xxx graphics card.

That's correct. For those who are stuck with G45 / P45 chipset platform like myself, the ATI 5xxx or the Asus Xonar soundcard is the way to go.

Anyway, what's the point of TrueHD bitstreaming when I don't have an AVR and speakers to fully utilise it?

on mkv - nope, on m2ts - nope, not tried bluray yet but I assume it is a nope

it has a additional buffer time which made 24p playback a stable one...

that's what i thought. initially.
plug the 5450 to a large screen tv, a plasma tv (which generally have higher motion resolution than an LCD/LED LCD) or a projector (preferably DLP) and you'll notice plenty of motion juddering.

i first notice it at A&L Audio (IINM they're running either Optoma HD20 or HD67 can't remember) and straight away i can notice the motion judder on my setup (playback at A&L is a lot smoother). nothing that i do will make it go away. running 3:2 pulldown to 60Hz will reduce it, but won't totally remove the judder (but it also made the motion be too smooth for my preference, like soap opera effect).

thanks to echohesian, i ran ReClock and it goes away. never noticed it before when i was running on an LCD TV.
motion judder are largely more noticeable on bigger screen. more area for the unresolved lines to appear.

i am using 46inch samsung series 9 led tv (Not 3d version) and playback with ati 5770 using 23.976 also using the motion 100hz found on samsung and notice no motion juddering.

Remarks: using 10.6 driver.

Glad to know that you gotta a smooth playback now... mine is still not working with i3 , I guess because you are using a discreet GPU instead

Guys, need comfirm one thing.. Maybe i will get this Graphic card HD5570 since now are rarely hard to get 5450, but i found this card dun have HDMI output, only got Display port, DVI and D-sub, now my AVR only support HDMI input, so i have to use DVI to HDMI dongle just like i did with my HD4670, so we know that HD4xxx cant bitstream True HD sound to AVR, but HD5xxx series can do that, ok if i use the DVI to HDMI dongle, did it still support at HD5xxx, i worry after i bought this one back still cannot bitstream to my AVR, it will become no different with my HD4670 now...

hi bro,

no u cant use dvi to hdmi dongle which u still cant get truehd or dtsma sound from avr, so my suggestion is get from brand like sapphire for ati 5 series which i did for mine that i have hdmi port.
