It's very hard to find a nice HTPC casing nowadays....

Added on September 11, 2010, 9:33 pmHas anyone experiencing tearing and stuttering for 1080p/24Hz playback using the the Core i3?

I'm hunting for a decent HTPC casing, was looking at Silverstone LC20 at the moment but the 80mm fan really turns me off, 120mm is a must for me to achieve higher airflow and most importantly it is not audible. There were a couple of Silverstone models which has 120mm fan but the design is not my cup of tea.

This baby cost me around RM800, which is around Silverstone LC20 price I believe, and I have to ship it from US to Malaysia, since the nearest distributor in Singapore doesn't have it. Looking forward to complete my HTPC with Core i5 & H55 chipset. Now I'm looking for a decent heatsink for my i5, I'm planning to run passive to minimise the fan sound.

Hey bro, is the remote controller that bundled in this casing able to control the WMC or XMBC?

I found the spec this afternoon but lost it again. But underline is this, it can play most of the files just like others, even the BD-iso, but without the menu option. MKV as well as flacs. But it does not play APE files.

I only interested in just a few of the above only, the rest I can't remember.

But I find this interesting because:
1. If you don't want to get the whole box unit ,u can download boxee software which is available in all platform, inc. linux, apple etc.

2. Its based on XBMC.

3. Most important for me, it comes with various installed options which I believe is still expanding online. Eg. u can choose CNN tv channels, BBC (radios only when I tried it), even options to adopt Shoutcast and Radiotimes, which is plentiful of internet radio channels!

Of course it boosts the USA netflix, hulu etc.. too, if you want to use a paid or free VPN option.

This afternoon I test installed the Boxee at my office computer (** cough **), tested with VPN, managed to view some online internet TV channels, CNN, radios !! Its awesome.

I am now at home, will try various stuff of this Boxee again. So far its very impressive.

If you don't intend to bitstream HD audio, the budget is sufficient enough

Added on September 16, 2010, 3:51 pmJust wondering what is the BDROM drive brand that can play bluray seamlessly without stuttering , protected issue, etc... ?

Does anyone know where to buy Antec Fusion Remote Black ?

I think RM700 cannot build a HTPC.

Both Motherboard and chip will be about RM280+RM250=RM530 already.
You need 2GB Ram and hardisk, plus casing too. So its going to be hard.

RM1000 maybe.

*****************

Any BD player can read Bluray disc without problem. But to play Original bluray you will need a software that help to bypass protection code, software such as AnyDVD HD. You will have to pay for it though.

Unless you get yourself original Bluray playing softwares eg. WinDVD HD version 10 or more, or powerDVD.

If you buy some soundcards, eg. Auzentech 7.1 HD , it comes with software that play original bluray disc too.

There is no other way at least right now.

Hi, do anyone how to bitstream audio from PC to Denon AV Receiver? I'm using Nvidia GTS250 and they are connected using HDMI cable. Usually I used iTunes to play Apple Lossless Audio but the Denon receiver is showing Multi Channel Audio.

Thanks.

power dvd have no problem with unprotected BD.ISO
the only reason to keep the protection is if you're ripping to ISO and AnyDVD HD can't decode the disc. never found a BD that AnyDVD can't decode yet. so unless you find one, it's better to remove the protection.

i believe multichannel PCM (or LPCM) is the best that nvidia could do. you can't bitstream hd audio using nvidia chips.
set the media player to decode hd audio to LPCM and if the settings are correct, you should get 6 or 8 channels multichannel audio on the receiver.

I understand that currently the PC decodes of the lossless audio. Does it make any difference if decoding done by PC or AV receiver in terms of quality? Thanks.

Sharing this about Character based LCD for HTPC front panel.

Is a bit off topic but for ppl that likes DIY and wanna have Character based LCD in the front panel of their HTPC chassis..

It was driven by a window software called LCD Smartie to 2x16 or 4x20 LCD ...

It can output Winamp spectrum analyzer, track name, CPU info, RSS news, CPU/Mem usages and other cool stuff at the Character LCD...

if the decoding process is done right, it won't make a difference.
i've tried comparing the quality when decoding done by the HTPC and when bitstreamed and done by the AVR, and i can't differentiate.

i'm guessing you're gonna run into lots of problem if you still go on with your plans to go with the HTPC route. htpc requires lots of technical knowledge and is not for everyone. IMO you should seriusly consider the dune.

1. similar performance. tho amd + ati takes more heat and more power compared to i3. and i3 have less 3d performance from its internal graphics.
2. i bought it from garage sales. lots of links given in pages before this.
3. yes. tmt3 have a mini player that works wonderfully with wmc

first time i hear about nvidia chip that could bitstream. a new line i presume. and quick search on the net reveals that bitstream has some quirks that nvidia needs to sort out with the drivers.
