probably 10.6 doesnt have this issue.
cant use just fit. using a plasma. function to help reduce burn in/retention will be disabled.
*
i'm also using a plasma. just fit does disable the burn-in pixel shift function. i make sure not to keep the image for too long on the screen. just fit makes the picture and fonts much much sharper. i like the extra sharpness.

any one here use hd5450 at htpc setup?

mosquito noise reduction and deblocking cant show up at advance quality setting.

btw, using win7 x86 hdmi to lcd tv.

thanks.

i'm using 5450. and yes there's no noise reduction and deblocking function.

hi Pap,

which revision driver are you using? based on the useful article posted by LightAstral, seems like 10.6 and above only have those functions.
*
i'm on 10.6 and still there's none of those option.

checked back my config. there's noise reduction and deblocking function in both 10.6 and 10.9. it's in the all settings, and somewhere below inside there. the deblocking IINM is labelled extra sharpening.

i've upgraded to 10.9, and HD (bluray) video playback seemed smoother compared to my previous 10.6
so just to be sure, i've uninstalled the 10.9 and revert back to 10.6. confirmed that BD playback on my system is smoother. just that 10.9 have audio issues during chapter seek (it messes up the audio and causes loud distortion when seeking through chapters).

so i've upgraded to 10.9 but keeping the 10.6 audio drivers. solves the audio problem.
i can tell that the BD playback is much more smoother compared to 10.6, both when refreshing at 23.976Hz and 60Hz. and pulldown conversion from 23.976Hz/24Hz material to 60Hz are done better with 10.9 compared to 10.6

guess i'll be keeping the 10.9. the best config for my htpc for BD playback are as follow:
enable both noise reduction and deblocking (extra sharpening) set at 20.
deinterlacing are done with motion adaptive, pulldown detection.
disabled force smooth cinema function.
refresh rate at 60Hz.

playback are done with totalmedia theater 3, hardware acceleration enabled. tmt3 plugin called from mediabrowser.

Nvidia is WAY better for HTPC than ATI, ATI always having driver issues. Especially when it comes to DXVA stuff.

Just read the XMBC forums, you'll see all the ATI headaches there.

mind to share whats your current hardware config now? have issue with hdmi overscale within 10.8 to 10.9,
always reset to default everytime reboot. but no problem at 10.7 or below and solved at 10.9a hotfix.

any idea how you can see noise reduction and deblocking function in advance quality setting at hd5450?

I know nVidia driver much better compare to ATI but that time low end version geforce still lack HD audio bitstream passthrow and PQ, Vivid colour still not good as compire to radeon IMO, used geforce and radeon gpu playback divx,xvid,h264 video in my game ring pc before.

Guys, what type of Nvidia chipset that I should recommend to my colleague that is setting up a HTPC? Or maybe...

What is the lowest chipset model / specs that supports the HD bit-stream?

Example:
Chipset, VRAM, 128 or 256Bit?

intel dual core e5300
gigabyte ep35-ds3r
2 gb ddr2 ram
a few hdd tongue.gif
ati hd5450
powerlogic 450w trupower

hdmi to pioneer avr to 50" plasma
playback using mediabrowser calling tmt3 plugin, lpcm decompression. no idea why noise reduction and deblocking is there, but it's there.

the screen is using just fit scale thus no need overscale (overscale set at 100%)

i'm surprised nvidia didn't implement hd audio bitstream till the last few models. ati have demo mode where half screen have processing and another half no processing. i like the one with some post processing. but that's just me.

if you don't mind the lack of bitstreaming, by all means get the nvidia. as long as you're happy hehe

nope. just the screen.
if i use 16:9 ratio then yes i need to lower the overscan. but the fonts are messed up. not in any way sharp. like a failed, anti-aliased gone wrong biggrin.gif

'just fit' makes the font as sharp as an lcd monitor. and my eyes are telling me that movies are also sharper.

Noob question:
Has Nvidia solved the HDTV scaling option? For a long time, I did not use Nvidia GC.

New 6870 is RM8XX and new 6970 would be more expensive.
