i faced this kind of problem (not able to get surround sound for any media player except powerdvd) and finally manage to resolve it. the solution is easy, just enable Pass-through (S/PDIF,HDMI) in ffdshow audio decoder configuration.

I finally have my htpc build. One question, when I switch my TV to connect to my HTPC via HDMI cable, it took about one minute to see the images on TV.

Is this normal? If not, what is the problem and how to fix it?

Where can I find the latest graphic driver? From Gigabyte site or ATI site?

Upgrade the ATI catalyst firmware immediately. If you don't, you will see flickering screen when idle. AMD solved the problem with the latest driver software from the AMD site.

Apart from Dell Zino HD and ASRock who produce complete build up of HTPC, is there any other PC manufacturer that produce HTPC?

am lazy to assemble to HTPC myself. looking for a complete build up unit.

creative soundcards are good for gaming. and a couple of years back, it's only good for gaming. for pure sound quality, them USB DACs that are selling there in garage sales are better sounding.
don't really read around about the newer creative offering tho. but if it's selling for say, RM50 then maybe it's still a good buy. if it sounds crappy can throw it away

I haven't had the chance to test it. But according to a colleague who tested it before announcing sale said the sound system works fine and the sound is good.
How true , not sure..need to get my hands on it. Thanks for the response. Shall test it before getting it..

Does Zino get refreshed/update with new hardware every year? I think the current Zino has been released for some time already. I think Zino was released in 2009 and Zino HD in 2010? So there could be a chance that new Zino might be released end of the year or next year.

used to have the previous audigy 2 zs few years back. can't say for the platinum pro, but both the audizy 2 zs and audigy 2 zs platinum have a bad habit of resampling all the digital sound that goes through it to 88.2kHz for processing.
there's just no way around it. the creative DSP inside the card processes any information at 88.2 khz. so there's no way to get bit-perfect playback on creative card. well at least on the consumer audigy offering. their professional EMU series is another matter. EMU cards are used to be said on par with high end CD players costing 10x the price.

but then again, one need a very capable system to hear the difference.

hey guys, would like to hear some opinion here.

i already have the following: hard disc, memory (RAM), wireless keyboard with touchpad, xtreme music soundcard

right now i just need the processor and motherboard to play smooth 1080p videos to be hooked up with my LCD 42" Full HD TV.

roughly, how much should i fork out to get the best yet affordable combination?
thanks smile.gif
