very interesting discussion here.

im want to set up new htpc, but wondering the power cosumption.. currently using hd media player which i think use 65w power adapter and im very happy with my electricity bill.

if my future htpc setup use i3, 1 harddisk, bd drive, 1 pci card and no gc.. what would be the ideal power?

thanks!

I found this cool HTPC Nettop on Alibaba from iWill company..

ION Based Nettop with Atom 330 Dual Core + Nvidia 9400M

http://iwill.en.alibaba.com/product/335000...ION_nettop.html

It cost like US$180 per pieces ( board, power supply, chasis )  and they need minimal of 2 pcs of sample.. ( WITHOUT laptop RAM & 2.5" HDD )...

Anyone interested to do bulk order & share the shipping cost... the more ppl sharing, the lower the shipping cost...

This looks like a pretty small & powerful HTPC that looks like the mac mini...

i found this, pricelist for asrock core and ion from imbi shop. but no price?? asrock core 100ht-bd look very promising.

my htpc is now almost fully functional. just left xbmc not yet installed. very smooth downloading and playing bluray. my setup are ecs h55 + core i3 + 2gb ddr3 + 2tb hdd. i put it under the tv cabinet, so the idle temperature is about 50c. is this ok or do i need to find a way to cool it down?

i faced this kind of problem (not able to get surround sound for any media player except powerdvd) and finally manage to resolve it. the solution is easy, just enable Pass-through (S/PDIF,HDMI) in ffdshow audio decoder configuration.

I heard xbmc is used the main player used in htpc, is my old AMD X2 3800/4000 sufficient to decode 1080p files and play dvd and bluray with ati IGP?

Thanks
*
yes, xbmc is commonly used for htpc.. i doubt your setup would sufficient.. at least u must consider a decent gc..

wish to setup a HTPC on my new house soon, currently using pana p50u30k, denon 1311 av receiver.

use for-
HD movie-BR disc room
download bt movie
pps
surfing
excel work

all sifu, any recommendation spec?
budget = 1k
*
more to movie, less working.. like me. rclxms.gif

let say the htpc will be at tv cabinet. so u need compact htpc, less power consumption, wireless controller that suitable for work.. i think 1k is not sufficient. the htpc itself better get something new tech like amd fusion..

Sifu,

If you don't mind can just list me the what spec i much have for meet my budget?
*
not a sifu.. just ordinary user like everyone else..

if u're not into self-assemble pc, better get ready-built htpc like ZOTAC ZBOX, Asrock Core, Dell Zino HD, etc..

or built it yourself.. the spec is up to u, but most important is the processor and graphic processor.. powerful enough but less power used.. my suggestion:

- AMD Fusion APU / Intel Pentium G6xx sandy bridge
- 4 GB ram
- 2TB harddisk
- true power power supply
- bluray drive
- htpc casing.. (example here.. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/662901 )
- remote control.. (so many, find the most u prefer. im using tis.. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1333284 )

u may look to tis website, hi-tech htpc.. rclxms.gif http://www.soundgraph.com/products-en

for 1000 budget, try this..

Thanks for the info, am looking to self-assembled pc too mainly for the same purpose that vhung has mentioned.

Btw, will it come with hdmi output to avr?
*
yes, they have hdmi output. please choose carefully when buying mobo and processor.. if u buying AMD APU, the proc and gpu is integrated with mobo. if 2nd generation Intel Core, u need to buy mobo and proc. the gpu is integrated with proc..
