core i7 2600k
p8p67m-pro
4gb 1600mhz ram
msi gtx560ti
ocz agility 3 60gb ssd
1tb western digital green
700w cooler master psu
acer x110 projector
harman kardon soundstick iii

probably gonna add a soundcard soon but im using it all in my room so im not bolting too many things on yet. btw im using a silverstone ft03 case which is hardly an htpc case but i liked the look of it so much so thats why i gone with this choice. im also using xbmc coupled to a cheap rf remote which i found online. not that cheap really. hahaha. but i can type so its good

Hi all,

anyone ever experience this before? let me briefly explain my situation

i hook up my HTPC to my AVR via HDMI and from my AVR hdmi output to my LCD TV.

but i couldnt get any sounds, as soon as my LCD is off. The AVR shows "no signal" and the HTPC shows "AMD HDMI Audio" offline.

i'm not sure if this is ATI driver issue or my AVR issue.

here are my spec

HTPC VGA : ATI 5770
AVR : Onkyo 707

hope someone can help me here

Thnx

with this kind of spec u may want to try SmoothVideo Project (SVP) if u keen on 60FPS fluid motion playback, very cpu intensive but ur proc definitely can handles at no sweat

Now shortlisting one of the options for my 1st HTPC upgrade:

1. A near silent HTPC based on E350 built (using Asus mATX mobo E35M1-M Pro), with possible SSD HD, plus minus fanless PSU. I have to use mATX as I already have an old mATX casing. Or else I would have opt for E25M1-I Deluxe, which is designed as fanless). If i were to opt for this, this will be my first Fanless 0dB HTPC design. drool.gif

2. Compromise on being silent, use the latest Llano A75 chipset (likely to be just A6), and a mATX mobo. PSU, hardisk will be using my old ones. SSD maybe an option, but may not be essential as the original mobo will not be silent anyway.

My option 2 is in simply because I may use the HTPC for occasional surfing, movie encoding etc. Its rare event but I still do.

Stan, what would you do in this situation?

Updated 11 July 2011

I ended up getting a Gigabyte A75M-D2H and A6 chip. Couldn't get any info on the slower A6 3600, so got a 3650 instead. Give up on the silent option of my earlier plan.

i faced this kind of problem (not able to get surround sound for any media player except powerdvd) and finally manage to resolve it. the solution is easy, just enable Pass-through (S/PDIF,HDMI) in ffdshow audio decoder configuration.

just finished transforming my old desktop PC into a HTPC that sits in my wall mounted TV cabinet..

specs below:

C2Q 9550 with AXP140 +120mm fan sitting on top
Biostar G31M7-TE
4gb DDR2
Asus HD6850 1gb DirectCU
3x HDD for storage (1TB/500GB/320GB)
LG DVD-RW
Silverstone GD05B with 3x 12cm fans
Edifier S530
Toshiba 46RV600E

did some mild overclock too on my system, and its now running @ 3.3Ghz at stock voltage.. guess this is the max limit that my mobo could go.. temps are fairly stable @ 48c idle and 60c full load. System is good for most games @ max settings but i think that wont last long.. games are the least i do with this system anyway..

it was physically challenging to actually house all the parts into the GD05B as i was accustomed to working with gigantic casing previously (CM Cosmos), but was overall satisfied with the end results.. smile.gif
