Guys, do you think it's worth it to wait until I3 Sandy Bridge is released before buying a new HTPC now?
Is Asus GTS 250 good for a htpc? Got it after sending my old 8800GT for warranty. Or the onboard graphic will be better?

QUOTE(paskal @ Dec 25 2010, 01:38 PM) if i were you, i'd get a cheap used mainboard with CPU. and power supply. things that nobody wants, an older generation architecture. and slap in an ATi HD5450. and waste all the rest of the budget on storage and HT and display. i bought my Core 2 + mainboard for RM325, Silverstone ST56 (considered as mid high if not high end) for RM150 and ATI HD5450 for RM165. I'm lazy to search in garage sale, prefer to just get them from LYP. Thought of utilizing the GTS250 for HTPC since it's lying around doing nothing. I've upgraded to GTX460 for my desktop.

QUOTE(ycs @ Jan 8 2011, 09:43 AM) the grandia gd05 is nice and big I was thinking about that at first, but isn't that a micro ATX casing? QUOTE(echoesian @ Jan 8 2011, 02:21 PM) Anyone use that casing before? Will the 80mm fans be too noisy?

QUOTE(paskal @ Jan 8 2011, 10:20 PM) i'm using LC17. the 2 X 80mm rear fans are moved to the front blowing fresh air towards the hdd. will be adding another 2 more fans blowing to another set of hdd. plenty of ventilation space for an average user, which would probably won't require any additional mods (or fans). the 2 80mm fans are dead silent. more silent than your average ceiling fan. Ooh, how about the cable management? It can fit ATX motherboard nicely without feeling too cramp up? Is there any chance for the casing to fit a Xigmatek S1283 Red Scorpion? But based on the measurement, the chance is quite slim. I'll have to use back Intel default cooler?

QUOTE(paskal @ Jan 8 2011, 11:31 PM) cable management relies on how you arrange the cables. yes it'll fit an ATX mainboard without being too cramped. that xingmatek is using 12cm fans. which could possible block the cover. the lc17 have enough space to clear a normal atx psu. maybe it'll clear the xingmatek. or even if it doesn't clear it, its only by a small margin. Ok last question, where did you buy yours from? I checked Garage Sales and there's only like 1 seller in KL. I checked lowyat pricelist as well and only one shop is selling them, not sure if they have stock.

QUOTE(lwk523 @ Apr 20 2011, 04:54 PM) How about change your player instead of vlc ? I think that will have much better in cpu usage and the smoothness too. Any recommend player here ? I find SPlayer not bad. I was using CCCP with MPC before this. http://www.splayer.org/index.en.html
