bro, with due respect, i highly doubt that. pls re-check your facts to avoid further confusing others.

Bro, a few points to take note.

(1) do u have a region-free blu-ray player? just so you're aware that blu-ray discs from UK could be region B locked, hence only playable on region B or region-free players (or BD-ROMs on PCs). so unless u have one of these, make sure the discs are region-free.

(2) for personal use, should not be taxable. to be on safe side, usually unwrap so that they appear "used" and make sure no multiple copies of same title. if your friend has been in the UK for a while (e.g. studying/working), all the better.

(3) however, they make kacan u not from the duty angle, but from the censorship angle.

That's what i can think of.

If u want to reclaim VAT, you'll need the receipt and make sure u have enough time at Heathrow as the queue can get very long at the VAT Refund counter.

Btw, just got this email from amazon uk:

bro terranova

thx for you very detailed explaination. ive been reading the past threads v2 till v6 yesterday and found a lot of usefull info.. lol 8 working manhours gone hahaha... Just recently only kena the BD poison.. the poison very KAWKAW especially to the wallet haha... planning to reach the magic 100 mark.. but really need to pace myself haha.. brought before from a few regulars of this thread.. all very easy to deal with ..kudos

im very aware of the region lock thing and have checked carefully all the BD that i plan to order.. but thx for the heads up on the VAT.. a lot of potential savings there lol.. minus the headache from the ketamzz somemore.. saving on shipping cost and VAT.. almost can buy a plane ticket to UK haha airasia of coz ...

anyway plan to make a small shipment from amazon uk just to see what can potentially go wrong.. keeping it under 500 to avoid ketam eye...

need to ask one more thing.. if i choose standard shipping confirm need to go collect at KLIA or if got problem only need to go?--even if lepas kustam... i know priority shiping DHl or whatever will settle everything for u then u pay them..

thx in advance

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray Announced

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that it will release Alice in Wonderland on Blu-ray on June 1. This new reimagining of the Lewis Carroll classic, directed by Tim Burton, went on to earn close to $800 million at the worldwide box office, partly thanks to showings of its 3D conversion.

It will be presented in a three-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack (BD/DVD/Digital Copy)and one-disc Blu-ray editions. When this movie was about to open theatrically, Disney's plans to shorten the theatrical run of this movie and move forward its home video to early June had caused some friction between studio and exhibitors (see blu-ray.com, February 10).

It's ok bro, you're entitled to your views, irrespective of how wrong they may be. No skin off my nose. But pls don't confuse other readers who may be here seeking info and going away with the wrong idea.

I just want to end by saying 2 things:

(1) Avatar blu-ray released in the UK has been confirmed to be Region A+B (per aiman's post). This is NOT the same as saying it's Region Free as you've posted above.

(2) What do you think would be the logic and rationale for Fox UK to release 2 separate versions of the same movie - a Region AB for the std amaray version and Region B for steelbook?

shipping from amazon (whether UK or US) is door-to-door i.e. delivered to your doorstep, irrespective of std or priority shipping. You will only be "invited" to KLIA if got problem. lol.

As far as I am concerned, we only entitled for the half of 17.5% VAT claim. Another half goes to processing fees.

I think you better prepare 2 to 3 hrs of queuing as my last trip the queue was like OMG! With all the luggages and hassle I ended up sitting in a food court, burnt the VAT.

Star Wars Saga Blu-ray in the Works

April 17, 2010 - Today in the IGN Theater at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet revealed anticipated information about the Star Wars films coming to Blu-ray.

"We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures."

When will the set come out? Sansweet says, "We're not ready to announce exactly when it's coming out, but it won't be in the too distant future."

Aye , terranova.. np nod.gif

thumbup.gif Morning guys,

Early morning silly question. I have been watching for the past couple of days and this title "Planet Terror" has remained USD9.99 [obviously after $3.00 deduction]. Has anyone watched this film on DVD / Blu-ray yet? The overall rating reaches 4.2 [almost recommended].

You guys reckon , this is worth grabbing? blush.gif

Latest Progress On Bollywood BD's.

1. Wake Up Sid (BIG Home Video) <-- Authoring complete. Currently in final stages of production and should be out soon.
2. Race (UTV) <-- Authoring complete and check disk delivered to UTV.
3. My Name Is Khan (Fox - BIG Home Video) <-- Encoding complete.
4. Wake Up Sid (UTV) <-- Uses the same transfer and encode as the 'BIG Home Video' version, so authoring should not take too much time.
5. Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge (Warner - BIG Home Video)
6. Paa (BIG Home Video)
7. Kaminey (UTV)

Looks like even the Hollywood studios want to cut costs and therefore prefer to use Indian authoring companies instead of authoring them in-house. Or maybe they just decided to sell the 'home video' rights to "BIG Home Video', which is why 'My Name Is Khan' & 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge' are being authored in India.

Dostana Blu-ray Review

Just finish watching this fun & laughter film which took approx 2hrs 20 mins run. Took time to write this short review.

Film
This is a comedy & romance flick. JA & AB presents themselves with great show & acting talents. Priyanka Chopra was gorgeously presented.
All other supporting characters did well. Especially the American guy who came to inspect JA & AB's gay relationship. Funny!

Watch this film if you like one of a kind Hindi comedy

PQ
I thought Ghajini , New York , Fanaa had the great PQ transfer, but this definitely another great PQ release from Yash Raj. Contrast is good. Colors are lively. Especially when John Abraham & Abhishek goes to Neha's [Priyanka Chopra]'s flat for rental inquiry. The view was mesmerizing.

AQ
The film is lively, probably not dubbed in studio , live sound .. Although not mastered in DTS-HD MA 5.1 , since i only had Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1 , the AQ was loud and crystal clear.

Overall
PQ is surprisingly was good , AQ minus DTSHDMA , 5.1 should do great work on your HT. Yash Raj should look into more titles with DTSHDMA in future releases.

Recommended Comedy Film

However, the price for Alice in Wonderland - 3-Disc BD Combo Pack (BD+DVD+Digital Copy) now is $31.49 doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Pray hard for this title and those eligible title and hope there will be a big price drop before June 14, 2010 to make their offer more attractive. whistling.gif

Guys,

How do we consider a title before we buy.

1. Do we buy BD because its cheap [obviously everyone does] ?
2. Do we buy BD after reading reviews and comments on the desired title?
3. Do we buy BD cos of good story line ?
4. Do we buy BD for the sake of PQ & AQ aspects?
5. Do we buy BD for ultimate high definition stuff?

What are other aspects you consider before you buy a Blu-ray title.

Hope im not asking a silly question. I would like to have you all share your experiences and knowledge.

wave.gif Night All !

P/S : Hope you guys leave your experiences and opinions / comments here.
