Not sure if this has been posted here.
If you're looking for a ryokan in Tokyo, Sawanoya looks good at around 5000yen/single. Near Ueno station so straight shot from NRT on the Keisei line. Classic budget ryokan with tatami rooms, futon, japanese bath etc. Disclaimer: I have not stayed here before (we have our own place in the Tokyo area so no need for hotels) but it looks good. |

QUOTE(stryfox @ Apr 20 2010, 04:34 AM) Hi. newbie here. Here's what I can suggest you look into for your list - I bought JAL offer RM1250 return. arrive narita 28may 7am and depart 3 june 1130am. what is weather like? been reading this thread. can anyone assist how to plan the trip? place to go? my main requirement (if possible):- (1) want to go and get souvenir at all japan hard rock cafe (Fukuoka, Nagoya, Narita, Osaka, Osaka Universal, Tokyo Roppongi, Tokyo Uyeno Eki & Yokohama) (2) visit mount fuji (3) cover tokyo (possible in 2 days?) (4) temple visit not a requirement (5) check out nightlife (with live music). anyone can recommend? travel using JPR to cover all cities? hotel budget RM300++ per night? thanks. (1) Get the address of all the Hard Rock and then cross-reference the exact location using Google Maps. On Google Maps, you can then see the nearest train station to the HRC. After that, use http://www.hyperdia.com/en/ to plan your travels via train. But to get souvenirs from ALL Japan HRC in 6 days is "almost" impossible due to the traveling time required even with JRP. You can definitely cover the one in Tokyo (Ueno and Roppongi) and also Yokohama and possibly the one in Narita if you make a quick stop en-route to the airport. (2) Best to join a tour for easy no-frills trip to Mt. Fuji - Check out :http://www.japanican.com/tours/tourdetail.aspx?tc=GMT01TYOOF800 (3) Definitely can't cover Tokyo in 2 days but if you list out the places you wish to go; we might be able to advice on how to group them together based on distance and easy of travel. (4) If temple visit not a requirement; then you can skip places like Asakusa, Meiji-jingu in Tokyo etc... (5) First place that comes to mind will be Roppongi but since I'm not really into live musics etc... you can check out http://www.frommers.com/destinations/tokyo/0085021118.html Added on April 20, 2010, 10:52 am QUOTE(e-jump @ Apr 20 2010, 06:23 AM) kawaii bijin dess Nice. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by PsyCHZZZ: Apr 20 2010, 10:52 AM |

RM300 per night almost is like staying in Capsule Hotel already.....
If want go until Fukuoka..mean 1st after arrive tokyo you have to go over Ueno and Roppongi ASAP ..play all within the time.......after Tokyo then take Shinkanshen go south to Yokohama 1st stop for you Hard Rock Cafe >>> Then 2nd Stop at Shizouka for MT Fuji >>> Nagoya for Hard Rock >>> Osaka for Hard Rock and my personal like Osaka Night life more better >>> Last Stop Fukuoka for your Hard rock ...and Fukuoka Morning Market is best don't miss it...... After Fukuoka then back Tokyo (from south to north) Since you visit so many place ..better do all reserch first as PsyCHZZZ told you ...if not you will not enough time for everything. QUOTE(tatsuyachiba @ Apr 20 2010, 10:09 AM) Not sure if this has been posted here. Cool, sawanoya is my 4th option for Ryokan back then. I like the fact that it is run by the whole family, it would be fun if their english is above average or one of us can communicate in Japanese. I'll probably go for it in the future trip.If you're looking for a ryokan in Tokyo, Sawanoya looks good at around 5000yen/single. Near Ueno station so straight shot from NRT on the Keisei line. Classic budget ryokan with tatami rooms, futon, japanese bath etc. Disclaimer: I have not stayed here before (we have our own place in the Tokyo area so no need for hotels) but it looks good. As my previous review, I would suggest anyone who want to stay at a Ryokan to take a look at Kangetsu Ryokan. http://www.kangetsu.com/sub7.htm @RegentCid Capsule hotels price range is around 3000 - 5000 Yen. http://www.siesta-en.com/ RM300 can get a nice ryokan already. |

QUOTE(heterosapiens @ Apr 20 2010, 06:00 PM) As my previous review, I would suggest anyone who want to stay at a Ryokan to take a look at Kangetsu Ryokan. http://www.kangetsu.com/sub7.htm Nice. Staying in a ryokan (Japanese-style inn) is a quintessential Japanese experience - a must-do for those into culture.Looking at the descriptions, you don't give up much staying at a budget ryokan over a luxurious ryokan, most of the important elements are there. Higher-priced ryokans (say in the 20000-60000yen per head range), the major difference is in the food (70% of the cost differential is in food). From past experience, at a higher-price ryokan, you get plated service in-room, they make your high-end futons at night for you, better ambience/views, boutique toiletries, in-room ofuro(baths) and and well-appointed shared onsen baths that are alternated between the genders daily because each bath is unique etc. |

QUOTE(tatsuyachiba @ Apr 20 2010, 11:09 AM) Not sure if this has been posted here. I've stayed at Sawanoya before. Trust me, it's definitely NOT NEAR from JR Ueno station, and it's bloody difficult to find for the first time/without GPS.If you're looking for a ryokan in Tokyo, Sawanoya looks good at around 5000yen/single. Near Ueno station so straight shot from NRT on the Keisei line. Classic budget ryokan with tatami rooms, futon, japanese bath etc. Disclaimer: I have not stayed here before (we have our own place in the Tokyo area so no need for hotels) but it looks good. Had horrible experience of running non stop for 20 minutes around Yanaka for 2 days: - rushed back from my Fuji Tour to check in by 11pm, - rushed to JR Ueno to catch the Keisei densha. However, having said all above, it's pretty neat, clean and comfortable ryokan. Cheap, if compared to other ryokans. The keepers were nice and helpful as well; their family actually waited for me till 11pm for my check-in. Bid me goodbye on my journey back and waited outdoors (cold spring at that time) till i was gone from their sight |
