RM1250 is for one way flight or return flight??

Return. Typical promotion price is around 1350-1600 for JAL. If I'm not mistaken this is the cheapest ticket under JAL over the past 2 years.

lol, you love to spew out 'facts' aren't you.

China have 1.3 billion population and you said during CNY 1 billion of them are in the station. It tickles me to the bone.

Not sure if this has been posted here.

If you're looking for a ryokan in Tokyo, Sawanoya looks good at around 5000yen/single. Near Ueno station so straight shot from NRT on the Keisei line. Classic budget ryokan with tatami rooms, futon, japanese bath etc.

Disclaimer: I have not stayed here before (we have our own place in the Tokyo area so no need for hotels) but it looks good.
*
Cool, sawanoya is my 4th option for Ryokan back then. I like the fact that it is run by the whole family, it would be fun if their english is above average or one of us can communicate in Japanese. I'll probably go for it in the future trip.

As my previous review, I would suggest anyone who want to stay at a Ryokan to take a look at Kangetsu Ryokan. http://www.kangetsu.com/sub7.htm thumbup.gif

@RegentCid
Capsule hotels price range is around 3000 - 5000 Yen. http://www.siesta-en.com/
RM300 can get a nice ryokan already.

I think (s)he was just having some fun and messing with you lah. RM1200/night will get you a 5-star Tokyo hotel and the Metropolitan is not a 5-star hotel.
Look around (e.g. rakuten, zuji, orbitz etc) and I'll bet you'll have no trouble finding a hotel for your price range: Tokyo has something for everyone. Enjoy.
*
Typically I would agree with you, but a quick check shows that, it is that expensive.

http://www.metropolitan.jp/e/stay/standard.html

And apparently, it is under JR Hotel Group or something.

Btw, bought 3 tickets to Tokyo on 9-19th December for my friends at RM949 per pax.
I will be going separately as I need to be back in Malaysia by 16th December.

Time to do the "battle plan"/itinerary again! biggrin.gif

2 week Visa mean minimium RM20,000 bank statement....so you got RM20,000 to spent in Japan no matter south or north
*
Wah! You keep upping the ante. From 6K to 8K to 10K. lol

So far from my experience, the minimum would be around 5-6K per week, and of course the more the better it is.
And not everyone choose to spend all the bank statement balance that they have either.

Btw, I'll be going again in December. Haven't had time to share my updates here as much as I would want to.

hai hai i'm going jpn next month biggrin.gif

i understand i need a min of rm6k for visa, but is it ok if i suddenly have a lot of money in my bank statement to meet that requirement?

what happened is that i put my japan budget money in fd, then now take out for visa, i worry they ask why i suddenly got money. i've heard u need to at least have the min rm6k for six months before u go ah?

tq for ur time, i will email and update the answer to my question if i can't find any answers online smile.gif
*
It does not really matter. I've had visa application approved when the statement says 10K were banked-in yesterday, the day before it was stamped and verified by the bank.

Although, I would typically use Maybank2u account, because in the online statement it does not have the balance listed on the side of it and if you print the statement the same day that you transfer the money in, it will not be listed yet. So, that would look like a clean record.

*btw, I'll be going to Tokyo next month as well. Are you going to Japan with AirAsiaX?

To add to the expenses is that I plan to bring extra rm2K (50,000 yen) to buy knick-knacks (souvenier, soft toy, used panties from vending machine, etc) BUT I'M NOT SURE IF 2K IS ENOUGH, what do you guys think? I plan to spend all the money I change, but don't want to end up broke in the middle of my Japan trip (happy.gif);
*
The budget is about right. If you want see a detailed breakdown on how much things cost in Japan, can refer to my old post.

The hotel is quite cheap 4K++ per pax per night. Your most expensive expenses would probably be the special meals and also your maiko session.

Shopping in Japan is expensive, for example a good t-shirt typically cost around 3000yen. For souvenirs, I would go to Nakano Broadway, Nakamise Street and of course Akihabara. You can also find cheap japanese souvenirs from shops like Don Quijote (its like Mydin in Malaysia but ten times the awesomeness).

I'll be leaving in 4 days as well. Still a lot to plan for my trip. sweat.gif

Yupp, sometimes it can be sold out for even a month, although I believe it won't be that bad in December as the weather is getting colder already. But, who knows.

It is awesome that you know how to buy tickets at Lawson as I've never tried that yet. Do you know Japanese language or follow step by step guide?

*Although sometimes, I would prefer to have non-Lawson ticket for souvenirs.

...but first i need to know how to look for jobs. im gonna start by learning jap first tho..

...i have 3 years banking experience & bach deg which i know is pretty common thats why im asking you guys where i stand. can anyone enlighten me on this?
*
If your nihongo is not at least at JLPT Level 2, it is going to be very difficult to land a job in companies that uses nihongo as the main language. Since you are from banking industry, from my limited world view and knowledge, I believe your best bet would be international banks in Japan. For more info, maybe you can try to PM, few of the LYN Members in Japan such as PsyCHZZZ and tatsuyachiba.

Only in tokyo as i dun think i have enough time to explore other cities within my 1 week trip... So, by saying so is it more worth it to buy tickets at stations compared to the JR pass?

For 12 days of my recent trip, it only cost me 14K Yen with all the travelling that I did in Tokyo. This is due to pre-planning with the guidance from :

Hi guys,

i wuld like to seek your advise for a very good Onsen accommodation which can offer private Onsen in the room with a very good view of Mount Fuji.

i have been searching online and found a lot of good 1, but i just need advise from experienced traveller from here... basically, i'm planning to stay 1 night here and wuldn't mind paying top dollar for a very recommended hotel with private onsen (open air) and superb view of Mount Fuji.

can anyone recommend me...
*
In 2009, I actually listed this hotel as one of the accommodation target due to its beautiful onsen view, too bad we cancelled our Hakone trip. It is also recommended in the travel book - "The Rough Guide To Tokyo" but I'm not sure they allow it for private booking or not.

my nihon-go is level 10 lol (the very basic) im starting to learn from book i got, and ill also learn from my wife..
hopefully i can reach proficient nihon-go within 2 years time. really really appreciate your info. i will pm   PsyCHZZZ and tatsuyachiba about this. my current bank im working in has no branch in japan  cry.gif so yea i should keep my priority to international bank. maybe i should try apply int bank here in malaysia first, get in and request for transfer with family reason as an excuse. do u think it work?  sweat.gif anyone successfully done this before???
*
lol, in this case, then you need to find companies that uses english as their main language. As it is going to be pretty tough to get JLPT Level 2 in 2 years. From your previous post, I sense the urgency to move to Japan like within 6 months or something, which means getting transferred within that short duration of time is sort of impossible. But if you are looking at a longer timeline, then it does sounds possible. Although, I would rather apply directly to the Japan branches instead of hoping for something uncertain like a transfer request to be approved.

*Btw, for your information - PsyCHZZZ does not work in a banking industry, and I'm not sure about tatsuyachiba, but both of them are very helpful and friendly. Worth to try to ask them.
QUOTE(matt85 @ Feb 22 2011, 08:48 PM)
I've heard some banks transfer their execs to Japan. Yet, like Heterosapiens have said, it's very tough and competitive to get employed in Japan; high unemployment rate among Japanese natives and why should they even consider hire a 'gaikokujin'?
*
There is one big reason why they would prefer to hire non-japanese as their staff - their company needs staff who can speak in other languages besides nihongo, especially english. For example, some IT company servicing international clients. The point is that, the language matters a LOT in hiring foreign manpower for japanese companies.
