Yes. You are right!

Pls use n router. To play HD files smoothly via wireless, it is not the resolution but bitrate factor. If your 1080p files bitrate below 13Mbps, it can play smoothly. The max we have tested POHD can go for wireless n is 13Mbps.
Cheers!

How about streaming via LAN, will it be able to play with bitrate more than 13mbps?

Most definitely. I don't think anyone still using a 10mb LAN.

all, i wanna confirm. What is the latest official firmware which is most stable? Will it prompt my HDD to self-format like some previous firmware?

I plan to update my POHD.

I update to the latest OFFICIAL firmware in their website, it did not ask for auto-reformat of my HDD.

Yes. Max you can go is 25Mbps

What I meant is the actual rate you can achieve, not ideal case. Like USB2.0 transfer rate stated is 480Mbps but it will never achieve. As you know, normal USB2.0 rate is about 25Mbps it can reach.

25Mbps as stated above. POHD network is 10/100.

In that case, I think I will just hook it up using LAN instead of buying the Wifi N dongle since it is not really giving the 300mbps bandwidth

But I think to achieve higher bitrate, the network should be end to end with 100mbps? meaning POHD -> router -> laptop/NAS must be in 100mbps. if only POHD to the router in 100mbps but the router to the laptop/NAS only 54mbps, the performance will still be the same if using the wifi dongle right?

From my experience, streaming 1080p and some 720p contents with 25mbps frame rates over 100Mbps LAN encountered jerkyness even with HDD installed on my POHD. Switching over to UPnP, playback was smooth like baby's backside even without the HDD installed.

Just my 2 sen contribution

*scratch head* So many jargons.. hope the instruction manual is sufficient enough to understand all these terminologies with UPnP, etc

What UPnP server are you using? Are you using a hardware UPnP or software installed on Windows 7 ?

does ACRyan POHD in SPDIF RAW mode decode the MP3 files to PCM and bitstream it out through digital out? or it just bitstream the MP3 encoded audio format out?

Not really hardware per se but I enabled the Media Server feature on my NAS so that the POHD recognises it for UPnP function
