To my parents a 'proper' laptop would be something sufficient enough to use the web, run MS Word and Powerpoint lol.

Like a netbook lol.

Need to persuade kau kau to get them to buy the XPS for me. tongue.gif

you know what i'll do if the GPU refresh, when i get my laptop if the gpu does refresh(to something really worthwhile) then i'll just return the laptop within the 2 weeks period, i dont mind paying the RM80 penalty.

yup, the guy told me it has a penalty of RM80 if you were to return your purchase. this is my plan number 1 to avoid being obsolete.

plan #2 involves CompleteCover and an "accident". hehehhehe

yup, that's what the SA told me, of course dell has have a return policy. most companies do. smile.gif

and yes, i believe it would be time consuming since i think you have to send the laptop back yourself which means through postage. but if it means that much to you, wouldn't be a problem.

@@, my laptop is coming on 18/2 another 3 more days.
But i dont plan to return, how much different the GPU can be?
Cause i think i bought it at a very cheap price, base on the current price in Dell web now. I already got a discount of RM 400 with a free backpack.
Which is cost RM 3778. Original cost now was RM 4178.
Good Deal i guess , if i refund it now although i get a new GPU but i already wasted $$$, and time.

Maybe to get a new XPS 16, i would need to pay Extra RM 300-400+ include penalty cost and postage.

which is why we'd never know, the gpu would probably be the ATI 5000 series, it supports DX11 and is a generally better gpu than the HD 4670. however, the HD4670 is still a great GPU and definitely not obsolete. DX11 is not in full motion support since it's rather new i believe, and unless you're a graphics whore you wouldn't really be concerned. I believe that if your laptop specs fit your necessity, there's no need to return your laptop.

in my opinion, dell studio xps is not meant for gaming.. it is for some light gaming, not hardcore gaming or long hours gaming.
even though the graphics and cpu is there, but what about the heat sink and cooling system?
smile.gif
correct me if im wrong..

studio xps gets heat up to maximum 105 degree celcius after gaming for 30 miniutes (total war). tat was my frens studio xps. it was scary >.<

it not a gaming laptop. if you want to gaming a lot, go for Alienware. Studio XPS is put under multimedia Laptop. I know it sounds weird but it is.

3 days worth of usage, I did notice the heat can rather get pretty annoying. My Asus K50 (which uses AMD) is far more cooler. Yes man. it is cooler. not the tech thingy(which you use software to check), but me as a user itself. The palm rest is hot really hot when gaming. but my asus palmrest remain cool in gaming, in fact cooler than my hand even. and if I do some browsing and chatting on the net, usually i would let my laptop rest onto my lap (hence the name laptop ) and the heat form this XPS is annoying....

the keyboard sometime gets hot too. under game. the K50 hot place is only at the top part (above the keyboard) and the bottom part. This XPS gets hot all over the place.

his gpu reach 105 and after that burnt... xD
i think his heatsink got problem.. cuz he hardcore gamer, everyday gaming for 2 - 3 hours liddat.

now his laptop screen blackout , cannot switch on edi.. mayb motherboard also sot liaw.. so moral is, don take ur laptop for hardcore gaming... really kills it ...

Added on February 15, 2010, 10:25 amyeap, if u wanna go for gaming, don just look at the gpu that the laptop can offer, go for some heat sinking technology built for the laptop.
i went for m11x cuz my budget under 4k and lookin for a gaming laptop which does not heat up like crazy T.T

i have considered studio xps once, but after seeing my fren's xps hot like hell, i scared edi.

m11x didn offer a good cpu, but its gpu is decent enough for u to last at least 1 to 1.5 years from now.

smile.gif

cpu wise, i think su7300 is not bad for that 6hours of battery life. in fact, su7300 is actually quite a good proc edi.
