They don't even have to launch it, signal already available in Asia, they just need to receive it and retransmit it. Problem is, they don't want to for reasons beyond our comprehension. Apparently how many hundred people beg also they're not budging (as happened with BBCE. Petition form also they try to ignore, but bring in Granada to try to pacify the viewers. Doesn't work for me, Granada dun have Red Dwarf and Weakest Link)
Someone else in the forum say it's because Astro has disagreement with BBC's terms and conditions...
*
If like that, I think that maybe astro wanna make exclusive right with BBC..
but BBC don't want to do like that
Only Astro can broadcast the BBC Channels...
like what they do with HBO, Star TV, ESPN so on....

Now is Saturday 11.45pm...........

Why they never put other Premier League LIVE matches at ESPN HD?

Have to wait until 1.30am for the MU team to play.

Other teams not in HD? I don't think so.

Added on March 28, 2010, 12:03 amWell..
Looks like someone sent out the false alarm regarding Discovery HD eh?
Well.. I see it like this..
I think Discovery HD will come to Astro..maybe this year coz its still 5 slots available for HD channels
But thats a BIG MAYBE from me
Theres not that many HD channels in Asia so it might be Discovery HD is one of the 5 remaining HD channels to come
AZN HD might be another choice though
N cut the crap about in house HD channels
Dont know who ever got that source
I dont see Astro bringing in BBC programming since TM has it now..
TM will probably the hold the BBC rights from now on
If ever Astro wants to bring the best of channels. they should consider FOX channels
Yes I know BBC and FOX are the channels that Astro have their disagreements on
But FOX is one of the best remaining channels that has not hit Malaysian shores yet

Great... HSBB will only be available to what 1.2 million households by 2012?

Using the government's assumption that 50% penetration for Broadband in the country....

Broadband = Streamyx 512k Hahahaha up to HSBB

So if a miracle strikes maybe 50% of Broadband will be HSBB

So the math goes like this:

1,200 000 households possible x 50% penetration = 600,000 households

600,000 x 50% HSBB = 300,000

So by TM's best projections there will be about 300,000 subscribers to IPTV by 2012

Is it fair that TM uses our tax money to get exclusive TV deals for a tiny percentage of the population of Malaysia?

Just think what would have happened if TM actually succeeded in getting EPL.

Would have been riots! shocking.gif

Why doesn't astro like FOX?

Many are saying that TM are digging their own graves
They should have made HSBB available in many other places in the country before launching IPTV
Just making it available in a few places in the Klang Valley and even that for certain places only with high GDP
That is the first signs of a failing company
N making the channels bundled doesnt make them any different from Astro
N not available to Streamyx users
I could go on and on

Maybe FOX is bigger then them
FOX is a major cable network in the US
Astro think they should be the boss in all situations

That's only part one of the stupidity. Part 2: The Star just reported a few days ago that Streamyx will not turun harga.

And:

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...23&sec=business

Mr. Keras Kepala refuses to unbundle HSBB items.

Wonder why gomen not acting out. The first article would have POed the gomen oredi, since that guy is like shooting down Najib's promise.

Anyone here have Facebook and is Najib's fan and care to bring it up to his attention?

Just how do residential neighbourhoods even have GDP?

Do residents of TTDI sell nasi lemak on the street corners?

Assto can do business withonly AsianVersion crap based in Hong Kong,it cannot do business with International channels cos they wont listen to or bow to Asto's demands and rules. Thats why we saw international channels like BBCE ,MGM ,DWTV take off. They put all sorts of conditions and turn channels into shit, see what happened to Disney ?International channels have thier standards.Look at Mio and Starhub channels there is a free flow of channels no conditions attached by the providers.Look at NGC they hv wild , adventure and now Music! Here ? Now the NGC HD got nothing new started repeating already so nothing to watch ! hmm.gif

Discovery HD ia a false alarm I think cos when watching Star I did see a commercial on Fox channels coming on one or two occassions , as our friends have said it could be feeds not removed.anyway just hope and wait drool.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Do you really think it's Astro fault? or Malaysia's overbearing censorship laws, and governmental paranoia, which are at fault?

International channels don't want their programmes censored and edited.

Makes me wonder if TM is censoring the BBC and DWTV feeds, or if the government has agreed to just look the other way?

I think its the providers fault they attach to many strings to the contract I think and afterall we are talking about normal channels . Another scenario Star Chinese Movie cannot bcos Celestial Movie cannot do business as long celestial Movie is there no other chinese movie channels . Why cant they give us HBO pack NGC pack, Discovery pack? Just bcos part of BBC went to TM they kicked BBCE out ! Wow real big bully !! The question of censoring does not arise cos even the NEWS feeds are delayed by 5 mins to allow censorship.
What else do u think is stopping them ? hmm.gif

I don't think Astro kicked BBCe out. I suspect BBCe let their contract expire with Astro on purpose so that they could sell their full package of channels to TM.

It really seemed like Astro was caught by surprise by BBCe, and they rushed a replacement channel in to try to cover the hole.

It would be in Astro's best interest to hold on to as many exclusive channels as it could, just to starve the competition.

We've seen this strategy before with MiTV and it worked out quite well for Astro.

in time things will get better... hopefully in the near future la..

as for the local broadcaster... please start making ur HD content in preparation for the HD broadcast... cos we wouldn't want to watch HD channel with upscale stuff all the time....

The problem with MiTV, as I said before, was that they did not research the market. Iirc I asked at a roadshow when they launched and immediately noticed two flaws:
1. Limited coverage- Major towns in the West Coast only
2. Overpriced - Decoder not rented, must buy for RM500++, then must pay RM100++ monthly for the small handful of channels, iirc no package system, you need to get all channels.

At that time, Astro already giving away free decoders and dividing channels into packages, giving people an impression of lower price. Plus, Astro has full coverage.

And yes, their "exclusive rights" thing is also to blame.

Probably not the case, since BBC would be happy if more than one provider carry their channel (see HK, no less than two PayTV providers with full range of BBC channels. And in India, I recall reading that all PayTV providers carry full range BBC channels also, and they have no less than one dozen of them). I think the problem here is like you said, Astro tried to demand exclusive rights, and the BBC refused. So since BBC refused to sign Astro's MOU, things fell apart.

Astro should have just ate their words and sign up with BBC without exclusivity.
