Dear LowYat Netors,

I am a new Astro Byonder, having it installed last Saturday.

I am using 42" Panasonic HD Plasma TV model TH-P42X10K.

Currently, this is what I set on the TV with the Byond decoder. 1 HDMI cable and 1 Composite to TV AV1. So, if I want to watch HD channel which are the SuperSports HD and ESPN HD, I will change to HDMI channel using TV AV selection. When I want to watch normal Astro SD channel, I will change to AV1 channel using TV AV selection. Since the problem of the pillarbox and zooming, I will ask my children to watch Cartoon Network using AV1 since they never want to watch HD Sports channel. However, I found out the SD picture in AV1 is not that sharp compare to the old Astro decoder. Is that true? Any further settings?

Looking forward to all your experts' answer here.

Thanks.

Hi Low Yat Netors again,

My Astro Byonder give me signal strength of 244 and sometimes 241. Is this signal good enough? You know, the first day after installed the Byond last Saturday, I have already experienced rain no signal problem. Is that ok?

Also, I have set the Byond Remote Control to control my Plasma TV Panasonic TH-P42X10K. However, when I switched off the TV using the Byond remote control and then wait for a while to swith it on again using the Byond remote control, the TV will go to normal TV channel instead of HDMI or AV1, AV2 etc. I have to use the AV button on the Byond remote control to change the AV to AV1 or HDMI to watch Astro. The normal TV channel I mentioned here are referring to those normal RTM1, RTM2, TV3, NTV7 channel using the normal old conventional antenna at the roof of the house.

Anyone having the same problem?

Looking forward to all your reply.

Thanks.

for ur 1st issue - my signal is only about 190 but no problem so far.

2nd - i kena the same, it goes to channel 1.

Thanks for your reply. Well, when I switch on the TV using Byond Remote Control, it goes to Channel 1 BUT the Channel 1 sound is TOO LOUD. The volume from HDMI or AV1 channel are OK. So, like when in middle of the night wake up to watch Live Football, when I switch it ON, it will go to Channel 1 which the volume is TOO LOUD and may wake up everyone in the house. I have to quickly change to AV1 or HDMI channel. Using the normal TV remote control to switch on, there is no problem, it will still go to last previous channel which is HDMI or AV1. Susahlah like that, then, not really convenience using Byond remote control to control the TV.

Any further suggestion?

How did you get that signal strength? I'm only able to get 217, which satellite transponder are you using?
*
Well, everything was done by the Installer.

They change the dish and put the new cable. They asked me if I wanted to use the existing cable or not from dish to decoder but I insisted them to use the new cable and they have to drill a hole to let the new cable into my house. No choice. They also then asked me if I wanted to take away the old cable from dish to decoder but I insisted them to leave it alone.

Then, when they were configuring the Byond decoder, I saw them select the transponder no. 18, the last one before User Defined. So, it showed me the signal strength is around 241 to 244.

Once in a while, I checked the signal strength and it still showed me around 241 to 244.

Actually my area of reception is very good, before that, the old decorder i am  getting around 93-95 also, about 5-7 marks to maximum of 100. Even the installer dont believe until i show him my signal strength.

drool.gif flex.gif ........looks like you are staying on top of a mountain with no inteference to the signal from the satellite.

Hey, anyone checking if this new firmware also update other things as well besides the fit to screen?

Maybe you need to check other features or other settings.........you never know there may be some problem on other settings after this latest update.

Then, it may back to square one again and everyone complain again.

Hehe brows.gif .....just a thought.

Happy new firmware !!!!

I hope so too... TM should reconsider and sell IPTV also to Streamyx 4MB subscribers as well. If DETV can work beautifully at 1MB/s, TM's should too. H264 and AAC makes it possible to squeeze D1 SDTV at good frame rate over 1MB/s. And at 4MB/s, one can transmit 1080i signal using H264 with basic stereo AAC audio.
I filed a request for that channel. CS told me never after pulling me on the line for two months, but now others say that the CS know nothing and was talking out of her ass. Irregardless, I'm fed up. I want to see Kari Byron in HD damnit!
Probably no. Unless the 3D image signal is encoded in the MPEG4 stream in Astro's feed and Astro relay the signal without altering it.
No need Full HD. Just make sure it can handle 1080i (which is part of HD-Ready spec) and have HDMI that is HDCP-compliant. Full HD means 1080p, which is not available over transmission anywhere (except maybe Japan) at the moment. So far over here Full HD is only output by BD player, PC, xBox360, PS3 and media player boxes and extenders.
*
Oh, Really !!!! I always thought HD Ready meaning 720p only.

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma TV with only HD Ready, not a Full HD, so, I thought I cannot set the settings to 1080i on the Astro Settings.

So, should I still set to 1080i or still stick back to 720p?

QUOTE(dxjb @ Mar 22 2010, 12:26 AM)
something weird just happened
I was watching disney channel
Suddenly around 1205 am the channel sdudenly was changed to one of Astro in-house Indian channel
The number on the the decoder was still ch615
I changed to another channel then again keyed in 615
It says disney bur the programme was still the Indian channel one
Then  i chnage again to another channel
5 minutes later i keyed in 615
Channel not available..!
What the heck..?
I checked the EPG TV Guide..and 615 was not in the list
I went into my room to get my phone to call Astro
Came back out..key in 615, suddenly back to normal..disney again..
I know Hong Kong are getting new disney channel
Thought astro were dropping the channel
If they drop it then I would have dropped the cartoon package straight away..
Disney and cartoon network are the only reason I give the kids the channel..

Weird Astro..someone playing around on a sunday night ar?
Dont drop channels..u should add them..
*
WOW !!!! This happened here as well !!!!
I remember few days back, I read a newspaper report said that while the children were watching their cable kids channel, suddenly, the channel become PORNO channel for 1 to 2 hours like that. The kids really enjoyed watching it. Of course, it is not here but I forgot where was it, in US or Canada?

where was this? Never read it in newspapers here..
the problem i had was not my fault..
i typed 615..the EPG said it was Disney but the content was the Indian in-house channel
As if Astro were playing around having fun putting Indian channel content in kids channel Disney
Then a few minutes later i check the channel was gone..like never existed
I think the clown at Astro had enough of the fun and was rebooting whatever they were messing around with
Another 2 minutes and normal again
I think they were having a laugh for fun
Luckily it was not Porno..

It was printed in the Star newspaper and I think it was last week. Just a very small column only at World News area.

It seems that ESPN HD channel is nothing but all the time looking at the "Next" match screen only.

I hope Astro can keep on screening whatever you have in ESPN HD all the time. Not just the "Next" match screen all the time. Sometimes, have to wait for more than 3 hours then only some other "repeat" match is showing.

Besides the "LIVE" matches in ESPN HD, Astro might as well screen all the repeat Premier League, Champions League match as well as the F1 again and again instead of just same old boring "Next" match screen all the time.

If next month we are starting to pay the additional RM20 for the HD channel, then, we should have something to watch all the time, not just the same old boring waiting for "Next" match.

Like SuperSports HD, all the time have something to watch like Ice Hockey, NCAA Basketball, Nascar even though some of these sports is not my interest.

Everyone agree here?

If yes, then maybe we have to start another complain again to Astro.

im thinking of subscribe this Astro beyond after i bought a new tv.... i wanted to buy a plasma tv, but the salesman said if i want to subscribe the new astro, LCD would be better, the picture looks nicer, since the signal is compatible/better for the LCD TV... if i use back the old astro, then PLASMA TV is ok, but not for new astro/ astro beyond... is it real?

any panasonic plasma user with astro beyond here? would like to have some advices...
thanks... biggrin.gif

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma HD Ready TV bought last year October. When I use the old Astro decoder, yes, it is TRUE, the SD picture is so nice and sharp but of course not that sharp as in HD. At least satisfy me to buy this Plasma.

Now, I have the new Astro Byond decoder and when I watch SD channel, it is not that sharp like last time using the old decoder especially the Live football matches at ESPN and StartSports. But however, some SD channel still OK. Don't know why???!!!

Added on March 25, 2010, 3:02 pmSorry: Off topic for this Astro Byond here.

For those who are waiting for TM HBSS Unifi, here are the package they are offering at the link below.

http://www.unifi.my/index.html

It seems to me it is still expensive for me. Hopefully, the government will try to make them reduce the rate.

Example: see Sun DTH, they offer free dmt and dish and kaboom!! 2 million customers in 2 yrs!

Actually it is true.

Sometimes people prefer FREE things then only you get good response.

At the end, the profit is from the subscriptions of all customers for long term.

If they give free decoder, dish etc, all these are small matters and can earn back from long term subscriptions.

That's business.

Now is Saturday 11.45pm...........

Why they never put other Premier League LIVE matches at ESPN HD?

Have to wait until 1.30am for the MU team to play.

Other teams not in HD? I don't think so.
