It's all logistics isn't it. If they have crews at all games and can get the video back in time for edit then sure...but I don't know if they have the crews?

someone here mentioned that he/she saw the new advert of discovery hd world will coming soon to astro...
but until now i haven't see any discovery hd advert on astro channels ....

I thought everyone loved (eventually) the fact that F1 was on ESPNHD despite knowing it was upscaled

yeah but that was shot in SD16:9, normal ESPN is just 4:3

For now :

- 2 HD channel on Sport
- 2 HD channel on Learning
- 1 HD channel on Movies

Next HD channel should be on other package, if to even (insert your opinion)

to the person who posted about seeing discovery HD ad on Tv..
can u please share how the ad was..
seems that ur the only one who has seen it..
I watched discover all night long and didnt see the ad..maybe i missed it

astro already has a Astro Ria and Aruna on Miotv I think, by the way Discovery HD seems to be a April Fool Joke cos I too did not see any adverts.

I think, astro should plan to become the first Malaysia broadcaster who braodcast in pure 16:9 SD Channel...
and if can, try to use H.264/AVC compression... sure the PQ will be crystal clear (even it is not HD)....

Spore's line up on Mio and Starhub is power packed I wish we had such packages but here we have half in house crap another half selected and limited choices of channels I wonder what Assto has against BBC and Fox channels :hmm:maybe they wld not listen to them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wondering tho, if that's the case, why are we the only one having ESPN HD in Asia? Starhub and Indovision would have also snapped it up in a heartbeat.

Hope so too. Right now I'm already convinced to keep my byond... if it's a trap, I will go back to cancelling mode...

From what I've read in the discussions so far, this appears to be the case. Which to me is both frustrating and stupid. What's wrong with just giving in and just letting them show what they want to show and charge their price? We are the paying customers. You relay their price to us, we pay. End of story. Is that so hard?

Also, if they show something people don't like, just tell the complaining person to not watch the show again. Why let one person spoil the fun for all the subscribers?

But now, TM almost has the entire BBC lineup, and I'm sure BBCE will move there and complete the line up in the future. I would have signed up for both, but TM is not available in my area, and their HyppTV service lacks the channels.

ESPN HD is not the same group that runs normal ESPN in Asia. ESPN & Star Sports formed a JV in Asia to get the BPL rights and not bid against each other, therefore avoiding pushing the price up. The JV are known as ESS. ESPN HD is not part of this JV as far as I know.

I'm beginning to doubt this Discovery HD thingy. I was watching Astro, both SD and HD channels last night and this morning before work, but did not manage to see the ad.

Guys, I saw that the Discovery HD ad too while I was watching "Eaten Alive" on Animal Planet. It's just a simple ad with some footage and then the words Discovery HDWorld and 1 April 2010 on screen.

As far as I am concerned, I'm not pulling anyone's leg. Not sure if it's Astro's prank or not la, but unlikely cos they would really piss us off. It's another 5 days anyway and I'm already excited. I just hope it's not a mistake from Astro's staff accidentally playing the ad or something silly like that.

Astro can't transmit in native 16:9 SD formats because the old decoders can't handle the signal.

The best they can do is shoot in 16:9 and then add the letterbox to make it 4:3

If you own a B.yond box you could then use the zoom feature to make it fit a 16:9 screen.

Oops.... I forgot, because people have such a desire to fill every inch of their tv screen no matter what, the zoom feature is no longer available!

Next update, Astro should add back zoom function. Their mistake for not including zoom and also stretch in 1st place. Then, we're having option to watch 4:3 letterbox video:

1- Fit to screen
2- Zoom
3- Just watch it naturally

I think old decoder can handle 16:9 signal....
because in Installation setup menu if i'm not mistaken, have TV aspect ratio choice..,
4:3 or 16:9...

It can handle. But user will got black box on top and bottom. Just like watching a DVD.

I'm not doubting Astro..
If they have advertised it then I think its true Discovery HD will launch 1st April

But what i'm doubting is whether the advertisement actually exist.
So far, only two people here have claim to seen the ad..
Call Astro CS and pretend u wanna sign up for Byond
Ask whether true Discover HD will be available on 1sT April

BTW, Motor GP will be on ESPN HD
