Which SD channels giving the BEST quality?

Added on January 26, 2010, 3:44 pm
ASSP HD's surround no sound one unless the HBO promo comes out, then only u are 'surrounded' or the nice Byond commercial.
For Byond commercial, you can hear the leopard roaring only on HD while on SD, i couldn't hear anything or barely.

History HD also no surround but
NATGEO HD do carry the surround, and i have to turn down my sub woofer's gain.
But my AVR do have DD sign when i tuned to HD channels.
*
Regarding 5.1 it totally depends on the programme. it is not a channel setting. Not all programmes on HD channels have 5.1.

Quick question: Does covering the LNB with standard hypermarket plastic bag/plastic candy box can minimize rain fade/increase signal? Aesthetically, the Astro Dish with LNB covered with plastic is so bad....
*
that's priceless!

NO, if anything it will weaken the signal reflected off the dish to the LNB.

It's a line of sigth issue not a dish/LNB getting wet issue

I manage to boost my signal from 207 to 217-220.
*
Actually you have changed nothing at all.
All that you have done is monitor the signal strength from a different transponder.

Yes you need to sync your remote, check the manual for instructions.

No you can not change the satellite signal level via changing any menu settings you can only monitor its strength.
see my blog to find out how to monitor it.

Added on February 14, 2010, 4:40 pmAnyone noticed that the audio levels between HD & SD has been been corrected to the same level? No longer are the HD channels louder.

wow bro..
i guessed astro did the software update on that part eh?
thanks for your help in sending the message out to the tech team..
any news when they will update software versions for other stuffs?
*
No news on the updates, not allowed to do that.

This setting is actually part of the playout and it looks like i spoke too soon. It's fine in stereoe but 5.1 is still louder on HD channels.

What about SD channels that use widescreen (Enhanced Definition) i.e. CNN, BBC News Or Australia Network? I notice sometimes on Australia Network programming the logo will cut out of the screen partially? Will they finally be transmitted without cropping?
*
Australia network is 4:3, and their content is letterboxed from it's original 16:9 by them, you can tell this by the way the bug sits over the black letterbox area.
pretty sure the same is true of the feeds we get of CNN and BBC.

F1 will or will not be in HD?

According to Mr google, its still in SD even in UK.

Too bad,,,even dart is broadcast in HD

Hockey World Cup also not in HD,,too bad
*
I don't think that Berny is actually producing it in HD, is he? It will still be in 16:9 though

No I mean watching in HD and not SD , the pppls look taller
*
Assuming that you are watching on an HDTV conencted via HDMI cable and have set 4:3 video out put to stretch.

If your eyes are telling you that people look taller on HD it is most likely due to your eyes being trained from watching SD stretched on a wide screen TV. Your brain has tricked itself into thinking that these seemingly taller looking people don't appear as normal when infact they are correct and the short stubby images on an SD screen that is stretched to fill a wide screen TV is actually the wrong aspect ratio.

can you describe your set up in detail please?
covering things like
what brand Tv have you got?
Are you using HDMI direct from the decoder to the TV?
Is your audio connected over HDMI, RCA or digital coax?
Is the audio connection direct from the decoder to the TV or via an amp/home theatre?
any splitters connected to anything?
which channel numbers are you viewing and not seeing anything on?
