All of this is a bit childish. All we want is an option, not arguments on which format is better. So if someone likes it in pillar-box 1:1, you can watch it like that. If you want to watch people fat in 16:9, its your choice. TV makers have been gracious enough to provide us with multiple options. Can't ASTRO do the same?

to me.. watching using pillar box is no big deal..the quality is better.. but i prefer to watch in stretch mode.. only one reason.. i hate to change the mode every time i turn to other channel.. WTF..

ps: paying extra RM20 to make our life harder is fu*king crap..

Agreed. As we are all customers, Astro should have give that a thought and gave choices to their customers. The debate here started when Astro refuses to acknowledge that there was a problem and use the excuse of so called 'international standards' and did not reapply the fix or reverse the FW upgrade. In today's technology it doesn't take long to fix this problem .... probably can be done within a few buttons but Astro (via their CS) says that it will take a while to fix it.

Customers got heated up coz they felt cheated and I agree that there flat screen TVs which can't do the stretching (myself included). Forummers here rant coz there's no outlet and when they are ppl who seems to side with Astro then the firing begins. Astro may be right but the customers have their rights as well. Too bad we are in 1Malaysia and they can get away with it. Had it been they are in developed countries, very quickly they have to revert or the government will punish them.

If you are using HDMI and watching SD channels, you cannot stretch cause of HDMI limitations. Have to use component or composite to stretch. Just like why volume control doesnt work on HDMI, but works on analogue outputs.

I am using a Panny and settings for composite and stretch:

ASTRO settings - TV type - 4:3 (not 16:9), 4:3options - letterbox
TV settings: usual 16:9.

dont let ASTRO know. they'll say - these people engineer a walkaround, so why bother to do a firmware upgrade. We dont want to be bothered with switching our TV settings. All my inputs are full cause ASTRO byond takes up 2 slots!

Thank you ASTRO

Recently, Astro performed a software update download to deliver a consistent viewing experience for different aspect ratios. This is designed in conjunction with Astro’s software partners and is in accordance with international broadcast and content standards. For High-Definition content, the new software displays the image in its wide-screen format; for standard definition content, the image displays in pillar box mode (with two black bars at the sides) to retain its original proportion and resolution for optimum picture quality.

Following customers' feedback after the software update download, we hear your preference and are working with our software partners to provide feasible viewing options. By the end of this week, we will replace the “Zoom” option with the “Fit to Screen” option for our customers who prefer to view Standard Definition content in full screen. To do this, customers can press the aspect ratio button on their Astro B.yond remote control. However, for the correct proportions and best resolution, Astro recommends that Standard Definition content be viewed via the pillar box mode.

Astro regrets any inconvenience caused as it strives to improve its customer experience. Astro thanks its loyal customers for their continued feedback.

yeah its true,

they listened to you are replacing zoom with "fit to screen". which is technically the same as the old stretch feature but renamed for some reason, probably just to be clearer about what the feature is?

update will happen thursday morning some time.

As with the latest update just put your decode into standby when you go to bed and "on" it in the morning.

the statement is on the astro facebook page
