This is what ASTRO reply regarding the launch of ESPN HD;

Thank you for your e-mail of 25 January 2010.

We wish to inform you that ESPN HD will be introduced soon. However, the exact launching date will be advertised once it is confirmed via on air promos and our website at www.astro.com.my.

Please note that not all programmes are available or produced in high definition broadcasts at the moment. High definition is still a relatively new and expensive system. Just like the transition from black and white television broadcast to colour television broadcast, it will take a little while more before we get to a stage where all channels are in high definition. Nevertheless, the picture and sound quality of the existing SD channels will be enhanced due to better aspect ratio handling and a direct HDMI connection with the television.

Should you have any other enquiries, kindly contact our Contact Centre at 1300-82-3838 which is operational from 8.00 am to 12.00 midnight daily or email to wecare@astro.com.my.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you.

Yours sincerely,

I started worried that Astro cannot fulfill their promise within this month. Based on above reply, the promo should be advertised if they want to launch at least on 31st Jan. I think they are facing problem regarding broadcasting rights due to this is our own creation channel..just like ASSP HD. They have to select some HD programme to fulfill their schedule, and their struggle to keep interesting line up in ASSP HD. In Singapore, Starhub only create one sport channel in HD. They called "Sport HD" which they are combine EPL, La Liga and few golf programme. So If we have 2 channel, I'm doubt they can fulfill their schedule.
Anyway, hope Astro will do everthing and launch it at least on 31st January.

Starhub have 10 sport channel which is not HD including one called Football Channel which can operate another 7 sub channel which broadcast live EPL, so we can watch 5-6 epl matches at one time and this channel are not operate on weekdays. I think Astro will do this same when next season EPL starts due to we have right to broadcast 380match all live.
They also have 2 HD sport channel...Sports HD and ASN HD.

We already have agreement with Measat to launch ASN HD channel, but right now just airing their program on ASSP HD. Singapore Starhub already have ASN HD.
I wondering why Astro still not launching Goal TV1 & Goal TV2 like Starhub. I have read before that the agreement already reached with the company but until now just a few selected programme in ASSP 1 & 2.

i dont think the cable is the prob...coz.. i'm using it with my dvd player and it works like charm...

Then try using a voltage regulator. If still got problem, well, maybe your decoder have problems?

Astro should broadcast all the other SD channels in 16:9 format for b.yond subscriber. We can see that most of the TV programme in astro is already in 16:9 format. Such as discovery channel, animal planet but the subtitle and the channel logo is still in the black bars zone. When we zoom the picture using the LCD tv. We are unable to see the subtitle and the channel logo.
*
Agreed. Hope they do that and convert everyone to using DVB-S2 and H264. Although if you think about it, it's Discovery that's airing 4:3 with the black bars. If it's Astro's doing the logo will still be inside the picture (this is more visible with BBC News and Australia Network, both channels transmitting SD 16:9, but Astro crop to 4:3. Can sometimes notice logo partially go offscreen, especially since the picture is fullscreen).

Yes but we also consider the satellites capacity...
We wait for another software update to see if any improvements over SD channels

noob question. Just got Byond installed. Havent activated yet so cant try. I am using an AVR. I understand that 5.1 DD cannot be transmitted through HDMI. So need to use Coaxial cable. Can I use normal RCA cable or I need to get a Coaxial cable. From what I read the difference is in the quality of the cable only.

Can the normal RCA cable carry 5.1 DD, Anyone know?

Yes, you can use regular RCA cable for Coaxial. I've been doing that for years with a DVD player sweat.gif

Actually tho, TallJustin already posted correction. B.yond does carry 5.1DD through HDMI after all. Just have to make sure your AVR can process 5.1DD audio that's sent through HDMI and not just do a direct passthrough of the HDMI port to TV.

I read that RCA might not carry 5.1, is that true?
