HD movies playback would depends on your cpu and gpu, and your codec settings

Currently I only use with my Acer Gemstone (1st edition, white inner plastic)
Using VGA port to be connected to LCD. yes I do wanna run it through HDMI.

I assume you know .ts (transport stream) which tv are broadcasted in. Most of my sources are from Korean HD 1080i channels. They do play nicely on the lappy since not much is compressed and is also a native codec (Mpeg)
Picture quality is top notch. Just that this lappy plays the video in 29.97fps. I've tried Aspire 4737 with AMD turion/Ati GC (not sure). Surprisingly it's way smoother (like 60fps)

Video playback is a priority but also light gaming is too.
Not to mention Video encoding.

So I guess the cpu & gpu is more than enough.

The reason i need WinXp is because i am doing embedded programming with Windows CE 5.0 SDK. Windows CE 5 and Platform Builder and Visual C++ Embedded 4.0 is not supported on Windows 7 ( i think), and more over on a 64-bit processor. That's why i need to dual boot to run in on WinXP.

I bought my 4740G with 2gb free upgrade at Boulevard IT kuching. But i think there should have some places that have the promotion. Mine came with some freebies too. The laptop was on promotion. The items i got was

Not all, just some of the Aspire got blue cover iirc la...

Yeah.. i guess Acer is keeping the Gemstone Blue looks lol ..

That's what makes them unique i guess.. LoL..

I went out with my 6935g at campus when it was my first day and people are like OMG! is that a Gemstone Blue!? Cool!.. lol..

Also u would here people who think u didnt understand their language(mandarin) hammering acer with LCD easy spoil, HDD always break.. and etc etc lol..

this 4740g comes with single 2gb ram or double 1gb ram? Seems like the b it offer alot free gifts, mind to tell me how much selling there? Too bad i am in kl...

KL should have lots of choices when comes to places to buy laptops...i guess in LYP already have this model but dun know about the freebies though ...

About the RAM, i guess would be 1x2GB...mostly all laptop now is using 1x2GB ..need to ask the owner for more accurate answer

It come with 1 x 2G DDR3 ram.. which when u upgrade he just add another 2G
