yes melbourne for starters.

there is an old saying, that goes, if you are in melbourne, single and endeavor to be attached

and yet still fail to find a suitable half/GF, you are either;

1. incredibly fussy with high expectations, or

2. you are gay not straight

Most important is the TRN.
Just write it up to a stickie and stick it behind your passport.
Just pack all your foods in one bag to make you life easy during quarantine inspection.
Best take a taxi to your accommodation.
Then get some rest and go uni and do your student id.
Then go to the bank and do your account.
If you need help for direction just ask around, most places you wanna go are within walking distance in Adelaide.
If you need internet then go around campus, in the library, student centre, or union house should have computers for students.
Anyway have a good flight.

Im not bringing any food there. But have a few medication for my skin and gastric. Have them packed in a file together with the documents. U study in which uni? Uni of adelaide will send someone to pick me up at the airport. No food then no need tick anything on the passenger card right?

Uni Adelaide, 3rd year engineering.
If you didn't bring any food then you don't have to tick, but i usually buy chocolate at the airport and declare it because i found out that the inspection is usually faster than the x-ray scan. smile.gif

Hi , Long time no chat ! How are you guys ?

Anyone in Perth have Korean / Japanese friends who would like to do a language exchange ? I'm interested in learning Korean AND Japanese in exchange of teaching them English . I have looked around the internet but I don't think it's safe going to a stranger's place , Yes they have classes but it's only a month course for a price of $150 ++ . I don't think it's worth it .

So , I would rather do a language exchange program . Any feedbacks are highly appreciated ! Thank you for your help =)

(Everyday Acc: Read streamline, debit master card) and netbank saver. BTW, tudents are waived from monthly acc fee. Most students in Aus (just only my assumption), they open two types of Acc at bank. One is everyday acc which likes current acc in Mal and netbank saver or online saver for ANZ bank which gives you higher interest rate. You can interchange your money between these two Acc as many times as you like through internet.

Get a streamline access account and a netbank saver account. streamline access is your everyday account and netbank saver is a high interest rate savings account.

Most of your cash are stored in the netbank saver account which the cash is only accessible via the internet. You can transfer the amount of cash you require to your streamline access account for daily usage. This is so that you can earn good interest rates from commonwealth bank though there are some other institutions other than commbank provide better rates but lets just stick to commbank for now

Things that you will need to bring if you are unsure are

1. Passport
2. Proof of residential address in australia - i think they do accept non perm address as well and u can change at a later date
3. COE/ student ID card from Uni (so that you can waive the monthly account fees)

If you want but not required to but handy is

Apply for a Tax File Number (TFN). This is useful because any interest you earn will be taxed. By providing the bank your TFN, they won't tax you up front on any interest earned from your savings account

hope this helps
cheers

http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia...ply-for-tfn.htm

please see link for the various ways to obtain a TFN.... i myself went to the location to apply for TFN and was provided a computer to fill in information (same as applying for it online) and the TFN printed on the spot and provided by one of the employee there..

onelove, you should contact them in regards to your TFN application as someone could be illegally using your TFN for tax purposes and if anything goes wrong, you are going to cop it.

if you do it online, they will send the TFN to your address.

If you are a full-time international student and are studying in Australia for more than three months, you automatically receive a work visa when you apply for your Australian student visa.

is this information still valid? does this mean we'll get a new visa after 3 months?

No, your student visa is for the length of your course right?

So the 20 hour work permit is true for the length of your visa i.e. the length of your course. If you applied for the visa online, read your grant letter. It contains all the information regarding your student visa and is very important!
