Anyone here has renewed their passport during their studying period? Was wondering what should I do before entering the country as my visa is bounded with my old document.
*
Get your passport on, renew it. Inform the Immi about your passport renewal. thats it.

You have to enter the country with BOTH your old and new passport. If you want the visa to be on your new passport, you need to pay for a new visa.

For 3's network coverage, I agree that they are definitely not the best. However, in metropolitan areas, I believe it shouldn't be too much of an issue to worry about. In fact, if you are not using the mobile internet 24/7 (meaning you are only using it for voice calls and SMSes), coverage shouldn't the first thing to worry about as 3 automatically goes into roaming with either optus or telstra network (can't remember which one of these). During roaming, all normal voice calls and SMSes are charged as per your telco's rate, but they do charge a premium on mobile internet usage.

"Foreign students who have a qualification for an occupation no longer considered in demand will get to apply for a temporary 18-month visa, allowing them to gain work experience.

The 18 months will also give a foreign graduate time in which to find an employer willing to sponsor their application as a skilled migrant."

the statement above means can work as 20 hours per week or full time?

Yep, there were a few cases that happened in the past few years, and now tough measurements had been taken. We have better, brighter path lights, CCTV, security upgrades, more patrolling guards on the campus now. There are also security escorts and courtesy bus around. Since then, I had no heard of any cases anymore.

I`m taking up IT at Curtin. mhmm, about UWA, I don`t know much, sorry. The choice of which university to choose from is ultimately yours.

Background on security initiatives at Curtin:

Curtin University has spent an additional $4 million on a range of a security initiatives during the past two years as part of its ongoing commitment to making the campus safer for students and staff, including:

• More security staff and patrols across the campus;

• Increased physical security in Curtin managed student housing;

• Security staff have been equipped with scooters and fluorescent vests to make them more mobile and visible;

• The freeing up of security staff to conduct more regular patrols following the installation of a Cardex access control system in University buildings.  The system includes campus assistance speaker points;

• CCTV cameras and lighting have been installed to increase security and visibility in external areas;

• The Campus Courtesy Bus now runs during the day and is available from 9am to 2am Monday to Thursday and until midnight on Friday nights;

• The Courtesy Bus can be hailed from any point around the campus or people can contact security to be collected from their buildings;

• Recently 22 police officers from the South East Metropolitan Crime Prevention Unit conducted a security information and awareness program on campus which was attended by large numbers of students. More information sessions are being run to remind students and staff about personal safety issues;

• A Security website http://about.curtin.edu.au/security/ has been established that outlines safety tips and information to assist students and staff;

• Curtin will soon be installing a Virtual Observer CCTV system – technology developed by Curtin – to security vehicles and the Courtesy Bus, providing a 360 degree view while recording images with the time and GPS location.  The information can then be uploaded for later viewing if required.

Before people start asking what is MODL, here: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-ski...s-in-demand.htm

Personally, I'll let the dust settle before coming to any conclusions. That said, Immigration's website has a wealth of information, even if most of it is quite verbose, but at least its more authoritative than speculating here.

Here`s the thing about MODL & SOL issue.
When the list was out a year or 2 ago, many student jump in the bandwagon of getting PR in Australia via studying in Australia.
The timeline well said, created a influx of student from India & Sri Lanka,China just for such course & the mushroom of Private Colleges without proper facilities around.
I believe those applying in Msia do aware of this.

Also, there is also skills & people who converse English well & cant get PR compared to those not well but just meet the requirement.

But the changes is right. Professional`s are needed so does some skilled people.
Australia still need doctor, nurses, engineer & teacher; not the irrelevant hairdresser or cook.
Next in line; Accounting might be limited too.

It`s more of demand like intake than supply driven need.
so yes, the need of dust to settle then you can see how the situation is.
