1 week for the debit card to be made? Even slower than Maybank? Hardly believe that.  shocking.gif My family prepared me more than 10k AUD bank drafts and how do i declare the amount? I heard that cash limit is 10k USD.

That is why i said make sure you have enough cash to last you for a week at the very least. Yes 1 week for me if you apply for BankSA.
Anyway is easy to set up the bank account. I guess you should do your research which bank you're going to apply. If you want zero account fees then make sure you do your student id, and request for a student bank account.
Btw if you do not know the direction around Adelaide then just ask around, people are usually happy to help out.
I do not think there is such thing as cash limit, JUST MAKE SURE YOU DECLARE ON THE IMMIGRATION CARD if you're taking more than the declarable amount, if in doubt just tick yes, nothing bad will happen if you declare.

ya..if u not sure about something, just tick to declare

n it takes week to get debit card becoz they post it to u..not u make a bank account n get the card on the spot

prepare ur student card, coe, passport, etc b4 make bank account..n also ask for more bank statements once u created for rent room, mobile postpaid,broadband,etc...they will charge u $15 for 1 piece bank statement for other time u ask for it(for commonwealth bank n i duno the rest)

if u got bank draft n dun have the card yet,u can straight away deposit the money into ur account by go inside the counter..after tht u can withdraw or deposit from the counter if u dun get ur card yet..btw i think u already knew this rite?

When i got here i wanted a post-paid mobile plan, so happen they wanted my bank statement but i have t wait for a month for that to happen and instead i have to pay somewhere like $10 for a piece of letter titled letter of introduction from the bank confirming that i have a bank account in Australia.
None the less the mobile shop rejected my application because they want a bank statement.
Went back to the bank and requested refund for misleading advice which i got and ask them to post my 1st statement the very next day.
Next day got my bank statement via post at my hostel and managed to apply for my post-paid plan.

That's not what it meant by cash out. Cash out simply means you can withdraw cash from the cashier instead of having to go to the ATM to do so, for example if you buy something worth $10 from Coles, and requested for $30 cash out, the cashier will give you $30 in cash while a total of $40 will be deducted from your savings account.

You can withdraw money from woolies or coles when you purchase some items with them for urgent matter or when you cant find a ATM around you.

For 3 and vodaphone, you cant receive signal when you are in the basement area. apparently i heard 3 offer 12 months contracts.
For optus, you can use it anywhere, anything but watch out with their plan. might trick you into a big trap.

Wed pm to the early hours of Thursday. Used to be Tues but now changed to Wednesday...
Some petrol stations are run by buggers who put up lower prices on the signboard but when you get to the pump the actual price is a few cents higher. I got conned last Wed where the pump price was 3cents higher but I was too lazy and tired from work to want to drive another few kms to find a different petrol station. Plus the jam and all that will probably make me waste even more time and petrol doing so.

Ones your bank account is confirmed done, then politely ask them if you can get your 1st statement posted to your address as soon as possible usually you will get it the next day.
Mobile shop just need your bank statement and your passport so that they can do some credit check/rating on you, usually takes 1 hour before you're signed up and connected.
