well been here for few days and seriously i don think i can fit into the culture as well . They seems so relax which i don reli like . My hometown Bintulu a small place in Sarawak is more busy than Perth lol.. My dad came here for few days he said he will die if living is australia LOL ! .. it depends on ppl but i quite agree with my dad tat he said tat he use Malaysian Ringgit to let me study if i stay in Australia means we are giving our money free of charge to tat country . I think a lot of china ppl work here for few years and move bak to their country haha .. It all depends what kind of lifestyle u wan . But for me i think Malaysia is still the best coz is my hometown the place where i am born . I love Malaysia even though we have corrupted government but who cares ? At least is liveable and the corruption doesn affect our lifes anyway . Still a lot of ppl migrate coz of corrupted government but does tat reli affect how u live ? haha . Don't boom me a... I'm just giving my point of view  smile.gif

Are you seriously joking that Bintulu is even more happening than Perth? Please don't freak me out. How about Perth vs Adelaide? Which city is more vibrant?

The website says international students about A$32000 per year. Wow! I calculated food and lodging easily $A10k per year. This means about A$42000 per year. That is A$126k for full 3 years. In Malaysia, it is RM378k for total course compared to about RM130k if done in malaysia. Is that right? Quite a big difference!

Thanks

wow!! what course are you studying??! so expensive?! o.o

$20 a day x 30 = $600 a month for food.

$150 x 4 = $600 a month for rent

$1200 on expenses x 12 = $14400 a year.

well remember you can work part time too, so that'd probably cover ur food and maybe other stuff like your phone bill and all. Rents also depending whether utilities are included. biggrin.gif but i heard from most of my friends that in the beginning only the "x3" conversion of RM to $AUD would shock you. after a while you'd adjust and as you work part time and all, it won't be a big thing to you.

Student Visas approved after April 2008 allows students to work for 20 hours a week during term time and 40 hours non term time.

I wage aboue A$22/hour. I earn enough to cover my expenses excluding lodging plus some extra. I had some difficulties landing my first job as Australian employers have emphasis on experience.

Hi there, I've pm you my email address but never hear from you. Saw some information from SIBT on facebook , "visit the Campus Hub here in Mac Uni - they can help you with finding a job. Regarding accommodation, I suggest you look at the pillars around the university - many students post available rooms at great rates. " Hope it can help you and hear from you soon smile.gif

The math sounds right. Why else do you think Monash, Swinburne and Curtin have opened Malaysian campuses?

Usually the fees are on a 1:1 basis, ie if the international student fees are A$20,000/year, they would be around RM20,000/year for their Malaysian campuses. Still a fair amount of money, but significantly less than multiplying it by 3.

Australia is a very expensive education destination currently. The UK and USA is more attractive from a exchange rate perspective.

Also, cost of living in Melboune is easily double the other cities bar Sydney. I get around with A$12,000/year in Brisbane for living expenses.

And read the front page. There is a very good reason why the cost of living for international students is so high in Melbourne and Sydney.

Yes, I do agree with you.
The average cost of having yourself educated in Australia has increased quite exp recently. I would opt for UK & USA too.

If it was at the exchange rate of 2.4, then it will be worthwhile investment.

Those in Melb actually now having about tough time with high utilities bills & etc. No where it will go down. Recession for australia in Making! QLD flood to be blame!

Hey anyone here who are studying at University of Melbourne? May I know what are the recommended place to stay? I have heard about Unilodge@Melbourne but it has been getting very poor reviews from the current tenants. It has many issues and I am quite reluctant to stay there anymore. People have also recommended me  College Square which is pretty good but it is quite pricey. Any other suggestions? Would really appreciate some feedbacks as I am flying there in a few weeks time. Thank you =)

jobs? dish-washing, cleaning, waiter, cashier & so on ... no offense but, if you do work for Asian employers, you'll be paid peanuts (in cash, to avoid being taxed). laugh.gif

other than that, put your main priority in studies, work can come later.

Anyone staying at O'Connell?

I've applied twice through their website, sent emails but they didn't get back to me. In the end I had to opt for Unilodge.

Just curious if anyone of you staying here (O'Connell) how did you lodge your application?
