QUOTE(ChaiLatte @ Jan 24 2011, 03:42 PM) Student Visas approved after April 2008 allows students to work for 20 hours a week during term time and 40 hours non term time. may i know what are the recommended jobs for newcomers? or how did you start? thank you, appreciate it!I wage aboue A$22/hour. I earn enough to cover my expenses excluding lodging plus some extra. I had some difficulties landing my first job as Australian employers have emphasis on experience. |

Regarding accommodation, I suggest you look at the pillars around the university - many students post available rooms at great rates. " Hope it can help you and hear from you soon really? i think i missed out your pm lol. thanks for the help! may i have the link for the SIBT facebook page? cause i cant seem to find it |

QUOTE(~~SkyShuT_T3r~~ @ Jan 28 2011, 04:08 PM) 20 minutes by bus. i am at SIBT too. this is my 2nd last semester here. my finals start tomorrow. about the cost i really not sure. the rest of the rooms are smaller than mine so the landlord said that he will charge lower for the rest of the rooms but i dunno by how much. closer to the CBD? around lane cove? and how big is the room to be exact. it comes with internet and stuff? sorry if i ask too much, just would really like to know And another thing is, you must not convert everything into myr when u wanna buy things. It will drive you crazy. Almost everything here is more expensive then in malaysia. even the cheapest lunch at the shopping centre beside macuarie needs 5aud. yeah i know bout that, kind of prepared for that already. thanks for the info! |

QUOTE(~~SkyShuT_T3r~~ @ Jan 28 2011, 04:43 PM) The place i staying at kinda ulu ulu place. and my life kinda boring. everyday stay at home. i am a computer couch tbh. I am staying along yanko road and yeah it's around lane cove road. google maps for more info. really? i thought lane cove is like close to the CBD and not really ulu @_@ . the landlord locked the empty rooms so i dont really know how big. mine is approximately 4m x 2.75m. (i used my feet and a 15cm ruler to measure sounds pretty good and the room seems big! cause im actually looking for somewhere around there also. but i think transport should be fine for me ler, cause im getting a bike there. and ofcourse the + point is someone local ! and i cant find yanko road on google map @_@ if you dont mind can you give another landmark building nearby . heh thanks! |

im so used to using the pin with my debit card here in sydney. my dad's gonna mail the card over to me as it wasnt issued on time before i left. so getting things done in malaysia is not an option =/ unless my dad can do it for me. tried googling but couldnt find the right answer. thanks in advance! |

QUOTE(haya @ Aug 14 2011, 11:03 AM) I'm not sure about "normal", but it does take a while. The standard processing time is 1 month. Be patient. Even if you're starting work now, you can give your TFN to your employer at a later date. thanks!cause from what i read online, they're saying that the normal time is around 28 days, but i was guessing all these info might just be slightly wrong. and also i've gotta apply for a superannuation account with my TFN so im kinda in a rush to get all of the things done before assignments and other workload start kickin in! really appreciate your help |

QUOTE(haya @ Aug 14 2011, 11:37 AM) 1) Where do you get your information online? I don't know if its me, but i had bad experience with certain things here like when i opened my bank account it took longer than usual for my card to come(was told it was 3 days or smth if i remember correctly) and i had to call them after a week to remind them and wait for a couple of days more for it to arrive. it was pretty inconvenient as i deposited most of my money in. 2) If its from a government website, what makes you think they're giving wrong information to you? You don't need a TFN to open a superannuation account, and once you do get your TFN you can give it to your superannuation fund. If you're not working yet you don't need a superannuation account. More often than not your employer will just put your contributions into their superannuation fund of choice, (usually with little or no input from you) regardless of what you have, and you'd have to manually change it to your own preferred superannuation fund. I was actually planning to open the superannuation account in commonwealth bank actually, and their website says i would need my TFN no? Different in my case i guess, my employer asked me for my superannuation account number so i assume i have to open an account my own. QUOTE(windz93a @ Aug 14 2011, 04:03 PM) Allergies that leads to endless sneezing. With regards to "perspective towards malaysians", i guess it really depends on how you regard yourself. The fact that you have decided to spend a few years in Australia means you would want to experience a new culture, without losing yourself. Good luck in your choice. Btw, Melbourne is apparently the food capital of Australia! Will do tomorrow when their hotlines open. Added on August 14, 2011, 4:16 pm Can you check? I got mine in two weeks. **just got it through the phone this morning. apparently my letter wasnt sent and they didnt give any reason for that. thanks for the help guys! i think its probably easier to just drop by at any vodafone/optus shop to get it.
thats what i did. just brought my bank statement, ecoe and passport and got it in less than 15mins. no hassle. |

QUOTE(xcullen @ Nov 7 2011, 05:18 PM) AUD1200 is sufficiently enough for a month. I stay in Melbourne, and I spend less than $800 per month. =) How do you total up to $800 a month including rent!Rent a room (not house or studio apartment) and usually cook at home. Housing/Apartment rents in Melbourne (Within CBD) - $400-600/week If share rooms for 3BDR, is around $800-1200 per month. Transports: Zone 1 - for 1 month Metcard ticket is approximately $60, Zone 1+2= $120 (Not sure!) Groceries: $30 per 2 weeks (In my case!) If you wanna go out and eat, try McD Lunch Promo and Subway, also Japanese food at QV ($6.50) Utilities/Bills/Rents: $100 per month. Phones: $53/month Hope this helps. my rent alone is $800+ a month. Well if you're hoping to live a fun and exciting life here, i doubt your $1200 will be sufficient. Im in sydney and i basically spend about $200+- a week on food(barely cook at home), transportation(train) and entertainment. Not including my expenses on gym, phone bill and the occasional drunk nights. |
