I actually dont agree completely. I mean yeah, alot of malaysians love to migrate overseas for the sake of better education, better like - thus obtaining PRs/citizenship overseas.
I dont know, but for me, I cant think that far, for my so-called "kids" and "family". Right now, after spending four years in Melbourne, I still cant feel at home and at peace at this place. I cant blend completely into the culture. What I see is that international students stick with each other, and local students look at intl students differently.
Basically what i am saying is that, unless one has been raised in a country for most of their life, it is very hard to really mix in and feel at home. For alot of PRs/intl students, they dont care if they can mix in with the locals anyway. They feel contented to just keep their social circles limited to intl students.

and besides, I dont think Australian primary/secondary educaton is all that great.

that's true, one can only plan so much.

as for home and peace, different people will have different experiences, different personalities, one goes overseas and pay a bunch mostly for the experience which you will not be able to obtain back in your home. WHETHER they do grasp that experience, that's up to the individual. biggrin.gif

and well, being shunned by others depends as well; how sociable are you, how do you LOOK, how do you act around people. Not even talking about overseas, it even happens back here. Locals to locals. In class, some people are ignored, viewed differently, some are POPULAR.. lol..

Well whether it's great or not, i feel it still beats Malaysian education system hands down.. thumbup.gif

You are right, not everyone can fit into the culture here. But for most of us Malaysians who've graduated from Australian tertiary education, a large portion of us still want to stay on in Australia, apply for our PR and work here. Its not so much to do with the better education system for our "future kids" but also we feel that we have a better life here. Theres more stability, the streets are safer, the quality of life is higher and of course the government is way better than the jokers elected into Malaysian parliament. This is not to say everything is perfect but we just feel that compared to Malaysia, we will have a better life here.

And most of us have plans to go back to Malaysia after a few years of work in Australia because in the long term we would still like to live in Malaysia. But its nice to know our kids will have a PR status and can afford to have the choices we never had. But that is really thinking too far ahead I guess.

I myself have also been in Melbourne 4 years. Recently graduated, and working as a research assistant with my university while I wait to lodge my PR application. Looking to land a job in Australia and then see how it goes. Also nice to know we have a higher purchasing power of 3:1 (albeit with insanely high taxes) tongue.gif

I have checked the fees of getting a bachelor in Accounting degree in Monash Malaysia campus is about rm110k for full 3 year course. May I know how much is it to obtain the same degree in Clayton campus, Australia? Or roughly same kind of degree in other australian uni will do.

Also, I read that the lodging will be about A$180 per week. Can anyone also give me an estimate of other costs like food etc. basically, how much roughly to spend per year on food and lodging in australia? I am trying to see how much more expenisve it is to study in australian campus.

Thx

I reckon yes, cos you're still signing up for a plan, just without the phone =) so you'll need a bank statement, and your passport =) and I think your visa too to see how long your stay in aus will be.

first of all, for your course i think you can go to the university's website and check the course and pricing there. do some survey and research online bro. smile.gif or you can even email the counselors smile.gif

lodging.....well, that AUD$ 180 is probably for the first few months of your life man, after that you might move into another place with your mates and stuff. you know the place well, you might even stay maybe a "distance" from your campus as usually rents there are cheaper.

as for food, first off, you're in melbourne. living expenses there are pretty high compared to adelaide but i'm sure around universities there are food cafeterias and stuff where you can probably can a meal for less than $10. Again goes to what you eat and how much you eat. smile.gif i'd say put aside $20 a day for meals.

alright, i don't get the bank statement part for this. cuz the SIM ONLY has no contract so I can terminate it anytime, they don't need a bank statement for that right? If i'm locking in 24 or 12 months, then yea, bank statement necessary. hmm, cuz someone told me that the bank will only provide a statement the following month, and I gotta request for one on the day I open a account and it'll take 1 week!! 1 week is pretty long to be depending on roaming charges from malaysia man... T_T

The website says international students about A$32000 per year. Wow! I calculated food and lodging easily $A10k per year. This means about A$42000 per year. That is A$126k for full 3 years. In Malaysia, it is RM378k for total course compared to about RM130k if done in malaysia. Is that right? Quite a big difference!

Thanks

Hey anyone here who are studying at University of Melbourne? May I know what are the recommended place to stay? I have heard about Unilodge@Melbourne but it has been getting very poor reviews from the current tenants. It has many issues and I am quite reluctant to stay there anymore. People have also recommended me College Square which is pretty good but it is quite pricey. Any other suggestions? Would really appreciate some feedbacks as I am flying there in a few weeks time. Thank you =)
