Hi... I'm going over to Monash's Parkville (near Melbourne Uni) campus for a semester. I think it's located just right outside Melbourne CBD.

So I've got some enquiries on the accomodation. I've checked realestate.au and the nearest location would be on Royal Parade.

Averagely what would rental (single bedroom) be like for a location like Parkville? I reckon it's expensive. But approximately what amount is appropraite? I've seen an average of $250-350 per week (cheapest I've found so far). Some can even go up to $500++.. Naturally I'd prefer to stay alone in a service apartment or townhouse.

So my other options would be either to live further out and commute by tram everyday. Or to rent an apartment unit and share out with a few friends.

So my questions are...

1. Which is a more practical/convenient option?
2. How much does rental cost along Royal Parade and The Avenue?
(I'm willing to spend on accomodation, but I'd like to know if what I see on realestate.au is way too expensive or reasonable)

So how's everyone's visa applications coming along? Just did my medical with online clinics today, and lodged additional docs online as well. Hopefully should see something end of the week.

My visa got approved pretty quickly upon submitting everything online.. less than 5 days.

I will be studying in one of the unis in the Melbourne CBD for 5 months and the rent is killing me. I would like to ask for those of you who do not stay in residential colleges or share apartment/houses with friends, is there an apartment you could recommend me? I'm looking for a studio or single bedroom around Parkville, North Melbourne, Brunswick, Carlton or North Melbourne. My budget is AUD 260 per week.

I just want a furnished bedroom + bathroom. A kitchen is not necessary (or shared, I don't mind).

Also a question on lease, what are the chances I can get one for less than 6 months?

Those on realestate.au and gumtree tend to quote me a lot more because I'm staying for less than 6 months... sad.gif

I'm trying to avoid Unilodge for abit and only go for it as my last resort because of the location. My university is along Royal Parade and I hope I can at least be within walking distance.

May I know when you submitted your visa application? I submitted on 30 Dec, got email from them on 31st Dec, did medical on 3rd Jan, as well as lodged all required docs. How long did the online health clinic take to lodge their health report? any idea? I'm going to be in UniLodge, but am not in Uni yet.

My visa was granted on 10th December.

I did my medical in advance, around end-November because I wasn't around in December. Once I got my CoE, I submitted the application online (Dec 5th, SUN) and called my clinic up to inform them on Dec 6th, Monday.

Anyone staying at O'Connell?

I've applied twice through their website, sent emails but they didn't get back to me. In the end I had to opt for Unilodge.

Just curious if anyone of you staying here (O'Connell) how did you lodge your application?
