At the moment, the water has just tipped over the Brisbane river with the worst coming on the next few days.

UQ has canceled all their class for the next 2 or 3 days and probably not going to operate for the next few days as well.

Information on Queensland Flood Situation‏
From: noreply@its.uq.edu.au
Sent: Tuesday, 11 Jan, 2011 2: 26 PM
To:

Dear Students

As I am sure you are aware Queensland has received unprecedented levels
of rain and there have been instances of severe flooding in the north of
the state for the past two weeks.

Due to more localised rain Brisbane and surrounding areas are now
affected and it is expected that there will be flooding in low level
areas of Brisbane over the next few days.

We firmly believe that the start to the semester will not be impacted
and that orientation and our preparation programs will not be disrupted.

If you are arriving in Brisbane over the next week, we would encourage
you to delay your arrival until the current situation is resolved. If
you are delaying your arrival and have booked for airport pickup and
temporary accommodation then please ensure you amend your arrival
details. If you are unable to delay your arrival or have already
arrived in Brisbane please ensure you stay aware of changing conditions
as advised through the bulletins issued online or by radio (for example,
ABC 612) or on television.

In an emergency please call 000 for assistance but note that this number
is for emergency situations only. If you need urgent assistance or
advice from the university contact UQ Security on 3365-1234. For any on
campus emergencies please contact UQ Security Emergency number 3365
3333.

We will continue to keep you advised about the current situation and
will keep information regarding the situation updated on our website,
www.uq.edu.au.

If you are one of UQ's educational representatives, we would appreciate
if you could relay this message to all students who plan to commence
their studies at UQ in Semester 1.

Kind Regards

Dr Anna Ciccarelli
Deputy Vice Chancellor International
The University of Queensland

@zeke'stah If u wana save, u can go to cheaper options like K-Noodle. Got discount with student card. $5.40 for rice with 3 choices. There are several cheap chap fan places in adelaide. usually less than $8 for a large meal.

Sorta. They have a-la carte and chap fan. During lunch and dinner hours, there are many students there. Sometimes u even need to wait for a seat. So usually i will avoid eating there during lunch hour. Eat there 11+ is fine.

Yeah, meals are pretty affordable provided you know where to eat at. Places like Swinging Bowl ( Rundle Mall ) and the foodcourts at Chinta town will cost you about AUD7-8.

I don't actually think that there's a min amount needed provided you have the proper documents and what not. But you should check with the bank you want to open an account with.

I am actually leaving Adelaide for good on thursday, and I currently reside in the city @ west terrace, it's just a 5 mins walk from the campus you will be studying at looking from the information at your siggy. And oh yeah, you will have classes @ the Magill campus as well.

Oh yeah, just a tip though. Try not to find accommodations provided by Student Living Australia because they're pretty f***ed up.

Since you're into gym as well, I suggest paying World Gym and the Adelaide U gym a visit before signing up for Fitness First ( on Currie St ). But if you do decide to join FF, do look for a membership consultant named Maggie, she's a personal friend of mine and she'll give you the best deal around.

Guys, I bet you're in my shoes back in millions of years ago.

What do you guys do when you have an offer from Uni A needs you to respond while you are awaiting for better offers from other universities [Uni B,C or D].

Note: 1. Assume the deadline for responding offer from uni A cannot be extended.
Note 2. To receive offers from Uni B,C and D is not guaranteed.
