My visa got approved pretty quickly upon submitting everything online.. less than 5 days.

I will be studying in one of the unis in the Melbourne CBD for 5 months and the rent is killing me. I would like to ask for those of you who do not stay in residential colleges or share apartment/houses with friends, is there an apartment you could recommend me? I'm looking for a studio or single bedroom around Parkville, North Melbourne, Brunswick, Carlton or North Melbourne. My budget is AUD 260 per week.

I just want a furnished bedroom + bathroom. A kitchen is not necessary (or shared, I don't mind).

Also a question on lease, what are the chances I can get one for less than 6 months?

Those on realestate.au and gumtree tend to quote me a lot more because I'm staying for less than 6 months...

I'm trying to avoid Unilodge for abit and only go for it as my last resort because of the location. My university is along Royal Parade and I hope I can at least be within walking distance.

My visa was granted on 10th December.

I did my medical in advance, around end-November because I wasn't around in December. Once I got my CoE, I submitted the application online (Dec 5th, SUN) and called my clinic up to inform them on Dec 6th, Monday.

hehe...that's true. i tried to obtain my booklist through IDP and they told me they can't get it. i believe books here are cheaper there?

it took me actually about a day. u can call the medical centre where u did ur medical to check for u. i did tat and they told me they forgot to send it. haha.. they sent it after that and the following day i got my visa approved. =D

look at the bodies that regulate your industry.....eg, mba for doctors, acs for computing, engineers australia, anmc for nurses, etc......

if you don't find your profession there, you are NOT elligible......

so 'finance' is not there........but accounting is.......so choose your courses and majors carefully.......

i hope it's enough man... 'm in Adelaide so i guess it'll be alright... ><

my lifestyle is simple, no clubbing or what, i enjoy reading at home and stuff. SELDOM shoppin and all.  food, i'm a gym dude so protein is necessary. ^^

i know fitness first is really expensive..  o.o  i plan to go to the gym provided by the university.  i think that'd be a good choice. does ur uni provide that facility for ur use?

gym in melbourne uni is pretty good mate. not as mordern as celebrity fitness in malaysia(that im way too used to- still love celeb fitness  ) but its very big and has all the essentials. paying bout$ 620 for a full year and i go almost everyday. haha

What are the degrees that the immigration recognizes as eligible for application for PR in Aussie?

I have a brother who is already a PR holder who has been working there for 2 years and wishes to convert to a citizen. Let's say I graduate as a dentist/mechanical engineer, do i stand a chance for the application?

why don't you call the australian hicom? ask them about your visa's status. or u can also call the medical centre where u did ur medical. my visa issue was with the medical centre, one call and the next day my visa was issued .  

Give them (DIAC) a call ASAP and tell them your situation and ask for an ETA when you will get you visa finalized.
If ETA deadline is pass and no news, called them and ask to escalate your case to the manager.
Make sure you have your documents ready by the phone.

As zeka'stah said I think better go and contact Australia embassy and ask.
If you're desperate wake up early and go there in person.

Call and ask them, pretty sure they will give you a direct contact to Perth DIAC.
Like I said contact them ASAP and see your options from there.
Be persistent, Aussie folks are helpful bunch, just don't be rude/shout over the phone.
