So how's everyone's visa applications coming along? Just did my medical with online clinics today, and lodged additional docs online as well. Hopefully should see something end of the week.

QUOTE(baoz @ Jan 4 2011, 06:39 PM) My visa got approved pretty quickly upon submitting everything online.. less than 5 days. I will be studying in one of the unis in the Melbourne CBD for 5 months and the rent is killing me. I would like to ask for those of you who do not stay in residential colleges or share apartment/houses with friends, is there an apartment you could recommend me? I'm looking for a studio or single bedroom around Parkville, North Melbourne, Brunswick, Carlton or North Melbourne. My budget is AUD 260 per week. I just want a furnished bedroom + bathroom. A kitchen is not necessary (or shared, I don't mind). Also a question on lease, what are the chances I can get one for less than 6 months? Those on realestate.au and gumtree tend to quote me a lot more because I'm staying for less than 6 months... I'm trying to avoid Unilodge for abit and only go for it as my last resort because of the location. My university is along Royal Parade and I hope I can at least be within walking distance. May I know when you submitted your visa application? I submitted on 30 Dec, got email from them on 31st Dec, did medical on 3rd Jan, as well as lodged all required docs. How long did the online health clinic take to lodge their health report? any idea? I'm going to be in UniLodge, but am not in Uni yet. This post has been edited by windz93: Jan 4 2011, 06:51 PM

QUOTE(baoz @ Jan 4 2011, 06:55 PM) My visa was granted on 10th December. I did my medical in advance, around end-November because I wasn't around in December. Once I got my CoE, I submitted the application online (Dec 5th, SUN) and called my clinic up to inform them on Dec 6th, Monday. oh ok, thanks! why are you in melb u for only 5 months? you'll be moving campus thereafter?

For those that applied online for student visa online, how do we find out if documents lodged online have been received? The inquiry page still has the same status as the day I applied, just basic details and lists of stuff that's required, including medical check. Health exam already done on 3 Jan (via online clinic), plus all docs that were required lodged online. Just wondering how long they usually take to update the information, or more importantly the whole process.
Thanks in advance!

QUOTE(limeuu @ Jan 6 2011, 06:24 PM) look at the bodies that regulate your industry.....eg, mba for doctors, acs for computing, engineers australia, anmc for nurses, etc...... if you don't find your profession there, you are NOT elligible...... so 'finance' is not there........but accounting is.......so choose your courses and majors carefully....... My dad (a chartered accountant) told a friend who wants to do Bachelor of Business that it's better to major in accountancy, as Bachelor of Business is just too generic and common these days, and that every university is churning this degree out in droves. I heard that RMIT accounting is quite good, can't remember source now.

Excuse me for being off topic on this query, but is inquiring on mum's behalf
She's bringing her ipad (non 3g) to Australia, currently she connects using a mini wifi modem (huawei e5832 - unlocked). Will she be able to just get a prepaid mobile broadband starter kit (byo modem), and use her huawei with the sim? I believe optus has a plan for that, but has modem restrictions? Would appreciate if anyone has experience with this. Thank you.

QUOTE(Shooterz @ Jan 11 2011, 11:38 AM) done with the visa , thanks for those who had helped me before Brisbane , I'm coming Cool! You've got the visa already? That's fast! Mine's still not out..online health clinic messed up, and there's now a delay. Added on January 11, 2011, 1:41 pmQUOTE(C-Note @ Jan 11 2011, 01:33 PM) Hey guys, What are the degrees that the immigration recognizes as eligible for application for PR in Aussie? I have a brother who is already a PR holder who has been working there for 2 years and wishes to convert to a citizen. Let's say I graduate as a dentist/mechanical engineer, do i stand a chance for the application? Since your brother is already a PR, he should have all the information you need. Note that migration policies change all the time, they may need profession A today, but may no longer need this profession in a few years. For current demand, check out the immigration website. Google a little, am sure you will find some useful info. Unless one of us is a migration agent, I doubt we will be able to provide latest updated migration policy info. Please advise:
I applied for my student visa online on 30 December 2010, and yesterday my status read "health requirements finalised". There are no other documents/information outstanding, after having lodged required docs online on 4 January. Course starts 27th Jan. However, I am already booked to leave Malaysia on 17th, but will only get into Melbourne on 20th (layover 2 nights in Spore). IF my visa is still not out on the 18th, what should I do? Do I apply online for a ETA tourist visa first? If yes, what do I do when I get into Melbourne?
No idea what is holding up the application!? Thanks in advance!

QUOTE(zeke'stah @ Jan 12 2011, 06:04 PM) why don't you call the australian hicom? ask them about your visa's status. or u can also call the medical centre where u did ur medical. my visa issue was with the medical centre, one call and the next day my visa was issued . My processing centre is WA. I may have to get someone to call from Perth, as there's no number to call from outside Malaysia. Called the medical centre yesterday, and the doctor himself confirmed that all documents have been lodged. Status has reflected this. Added on January 12, 2011, 6:09 pmQUOTE(december88 @ Jan 12 2011, 06:06 PM) Give them (DIAC) a call ASAP and tell them your situation and ask for an ETA when you will get you visa finalized. If ETA deadline is pass and no news, called them and ask to escalate your case to the manager. Make sure you have your documents ready by the phone. Hi, thanks. There is no number to call from outside Malaysia. Should I get my aunt who lives in Melbourne to call on my behalf? This post has been edited by windz93: Jan 12 2011, 06:09 PM

QUOTE(december88 @ Jan 12 2011, 06:14 PM) As zeka'stah said I think better go and contact Australia embassy and ask. If you're desperate wake up early and go there in person. http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/overseas/m/malaysia/Personally I be worried if I be you cause you have 5 working days to sort this out. All the best! If my processing centre is Perth WA, I doubt they will entertain my case.

QUOTE(december88 @ Jan 12 2011, 06:37 PM) Did you go to the link I gave you? Call and ask them, pretty sure they will give you a direct contact to Perth DIAC. Like I said contact them ASAP and see your options from there. Be persistent, Aussie folks are helpful bunch, just don't be rude/shout over the phone. Yes, I did, will call them tomorrow afternoon (it says between 1.30 - 3.30pm only for phone calls) as I am not in KL. Noted re aussie folks! Thanks!
