I couldn't find accommodations near UWA in UniLodge website. Don't mind asking, are there any websites that provide accommodation services similar to UniLodge near UWA campus, Perth? For current/existing UWA students, mind to share your testimonials about UWA's on-campus accommodation? You may pm me as I have more questions to ask.  Thx =D

there's no on-campus accommodation really, just the residential colleges: trinity, currie hall, etc etc. =)they're opposite the uni. I reckon you can ask the uni to help you find a uni near the uni. transport is extremely good in perth so I stayed far far away last time. =)

LOL! it is cheaper tho cuz i get into second year in 2012.. smile.gif

Yeap, most airlines do not weigh your hand carry. But as I said, most books are not cheaper in Malaysia anyway (as they are imported books). Plus when you're going abroad for a few years I'm sure you have a tonne of things to bring, at least I did, hehe.

For those that applied online for student visa online, how do we find out if documents lodged online have been received? The inquiry page still has the same status as the day I applied, just basic details and lists of stuff that's required, including medical check. Health exam already done on 3 Jan (via online clinic), plus all docs that were required lodged online. Just wondering how long they usually take to update the information, or more importantly the whole process.

Thanks in advance!

Hello biggrin.gif First off a warm welcome to UWA (: You'll definitely find a lot of malaysians staying around here xD

As about accommodation around UWA, i have to warn you that it's fairly hard and pricey to find accommodation right around campus due to the demand from international students. As Onelove mentioned, there are student residential hostels, but i really really wouldn't recommend them because they cost a bomb and aren't really that nice (though a good option if you like to meet a lot of people and desperate to find a place)

I recommend trying realestate.com.au to find a house around UWA. the area's named "Crawley" and "Nedlands". Alternatively, you can try to google earth and see where UWA is and a few other suburbs that are just like 1 bus away from university, for example i know people staying at cottesloe (around the beach).

Another alternative which might be quicker to settle down, might be looking for accommodation in city apartments. There are a few around which a few of my friends managed to find. Though they are a ted bit pricey, they have better cost-worth value compared to the houses around UWA. They are around 20 minutes to UWA and really near the city!

Hope that it all helps (: With that aside, what course are you going to be attending there?

slightly off topic.....but it may be relevant for all potential students to know that a few professions are now no more on the sol (skill occupation list) for eligibility for 885(pr) and 485(graduate visa) application.....notably laws and pharmacy.........there is no more shortage in these professions.......

with the new points system due to start in July, you will not have enough points as a fresh graduate to apply, unless you get band 8(all components) for ielts..........

of course, this may all change again by the time you graduate.....

I thought this only applies to those who are not in the SOL? That's what I heard. Those who aren't in SOL needs band 8 for the extra mark to be eligible. so... even if our course is in SOL, we still need band 8 for every components for IELTS to be eligible to apply for PR?

you can't get a job without a resident visa......otherwise you have contravened your student visa and will be deported........

however, if you are good/lucky enough to have a job offer, and the potential employer is willing to sponsor your application, then you have enough points with lower ielts to apply for 886........

otherwise, even if you have a job, it's work experience that gives you points, not the job.....

go search the dimmi site for details.........

there is no more points for your profession, unlike before......

but if your profession is NOT in the sol, you CANNOT apply for 885.........

for you specifically, there is an extra category you will come under, which is the 'professional training' category..........so it will not affect you, at least till after the housejob........but you will then have points for 1 year work experience, so only need band 7.........

there are also points for region, and employer/relative sponsorship, so if you have that, you can reduce the requirement even to band 6........
