QUOTE(limeuu @ Jan 6 2011, 11:46 AM) you can't get a job without a resident visa......otherwise you have contravened your student visa and will be deported........ ah~ thanks limeuu =) yeah, tasmania is considered rural area, so we get extra points here =D but band 7 shouldnt be a prob for those who're already studying in aussie. gosh they sure have tighten up the PR application system =(however, if you are good/lucky enough to have a job offer, and the potential employer is willing to sponsor your application, then you have enough points with lower ielts to apply for 886........ otherwise, even if you have a job, it's work experience that gives you points, not the job..... go search the dimmi site for details......... Added on January 6, 2011, 11:51 am there is no more points for your profession, unlike before...... but if your profession is NOT in the sol, you CANNOT apply for 885......... for you specifically, there is an extra category you will come under, which is the 'professional training' category..........so it will not affect you, at least till after the housejob........but you will then have points for 1 year work experience, so only need band 7......... there are also points for region, and employer/relative sponsorship, so if you have that, you can reduce the requirement even to band 6........ |

look at the bodies that regulate your industry.....eg, mba for doctors, acs for computing, engineers australia, anmc for nurses, etc......
if you don't find your profession there, you are NOT elligible...... so 'finance' is not there........but accounting is.......so choose your courses and majors carefully....... |

QUOTE(Ver @ Jan 5 2011, 02:29 PM) Hello OMG! Thank you for your wonderful detailed answers. I am going for Bachelor of Commerce. In fact, the accommodation esp residential colleges brought quite a downturn in considering studying in UWA. But I guess, it wouldn't be much a problem for now.. temporary. Awaiting for other offers as well. =D. Btw, does 20 minutes to UWA is by bus or other means of transportation? As about accommodation around UWA, i have to warn you that it's fairly hard and pricey to find accommodation right around campus due to the demand from international students. As Onelove mentioned, there are student residential hostels, but i really really wouldn't recommend them because they cost a bomb and aren't really that nice (though a good option if you like to meet a lot of people and desperate to find a place) I recommend trying realestate.com.au to find a house around UWA. the area's named "Crawley" and "Nedlands". Alternatively, you can try to google earth and see where UWA is and a few other suburbs that are just like 1 bus away from university, for example i know people staying at cottesloe (around the beach). Another alternative which might be quicker to settle down, might be looking for accommodation in city apartments. There are a few around which a few of my friends managed to find. Though they are a ted bit pricey, they have better cost-worth value compared to the houses around UWA. They are around 20 minutes to UWA and really near the city! Hope that it all helps (: With that aside, what course are you going to be attending there? |

Employers have no strong preference towards particular ones. What would make more sense is how the type of training derived from particular majors would support your ability to perform in certain roles. Now I guess that would play a part in the employer's decision process. Therefore it's job/role dependent. But generally, at the undergraduate level, leading to an entry-level job, there won't be much of a difference between matching finance, accounting, marketing, and economics. Select the ones that interest you most. Because that's the only way you can score good marks. Scoring well also stems from your ability to think in depth, which also suggests that you can at least "talk the talk" better than your peers. And your scores are what an employer would strongly place emphasis on. Personally, I think a mix of finance and economics major, with minors in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship would do really good in training up your knowledge and thinking skills. Accounting complements finance well too. But in the real world, all that I mentioned complement each other, so... This post has been edited by entryman: Jan 7 2011, 08:38 AM |

Working in Australia is pretty rewarding. I work as a bartender in Canberra for $21 an hour. Although I have to work late shifts I enjoy my job. 18 hours (3 shifts) a week and I would be able to fully cover rent.Job vacancies varies from city to city and experience is valued a lot. So if you are hunting for your first job, be prepared to look harder and not be picky. |

Guys, this is the Studying in Australia thread, not "I want to use an Australian qualification to migrate" thread.
I will openly admit that it is a common event, but there is no need to add to the problem. It is bad enough that Chinese and Indian nationals are not well regarded in Australia. It is even worst when Malaysia consists of, amongst other things, ethnic Chinese and Indians. Let's keep M'sia on the favorable terms list shall we? Ask yourself: are you coming to Australia for an education, or to migrate? If its the latter, don't whine why the rules get tighter every year. For it is percisely such people they're trying to keep out. QUOTE(zeke'stah @ Jan 7 2011, 12:26 AM) like here bro, http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol/ which do i select? schedule 3? sorry i'm so blur at this... Schedule 3 will apply to most people, an in particular for a 885. Do note that Australian immigration changes their rules like people change their shirts. The migration rules that were in place when I went in 4 years ago no longer exist. While I acknowledge some advance planning is always welcome, it has to be noted that when you're about to graduate, the rules will have changed, and may be to your disadvantage. Its a bit premature deciding on majors when you're only starting. |
