You will lose EPG. I think we are supposed to stick to #1. The signal doesn't matter as long as the quality is 100 (0 BER).

I tried each and every one of the transponders as entry point, #2 and #5 (both Measat 3) won't allow me (signal became unlocked), and #13-17 (Measat 3A) won't allow me either.

The rest allowed me to, #1 (default) and #3 gave me the lowest signal (198-209 depending on whether night or day), the rest gave me higher, from 214 till 244, varies for each entry point. #18 gave me 225-228.

Anyway, I think it doesn't matter so long as you can watch all the channels you subscribe to without any problems, the channels are all split over the many transponders.

Don't bother with monster cable. It's all digital, so either signal make it (clear picture), or signal don't at all. A possible third scenario is the signal only intermittently making it (theoretically, would be like picture resembling Astro during hujan lebat PLUS intermittent HDCP errors). The third scenario is unlikely to occur because HDMI mandates that the power strength sent by a HDMI device must be powerful enough to get through a 15 meter wire without loss at all. If got loss then either cable is faulty, cable does not meet spec (longer than 15m or poor quality due to high resistance) or Astro decoder/TV is faulty. No such thing as picture getting sharper with better cable.

Did more testing. Apparently the EPG loss is temporary. All I needed to do was to just cycle through all the channels I subscribed to and press OK twice to make the EPG come back. I'm currently still using #18.

Tip: If your TV have both HDMI and component connector available, connect both to your Byond decoder. Watch HD on HDMI and SD on component.  SD channel more vivid and sharper on  component. It does make a difference.  rclxms.gif

i really wanted to follow ure tip...but then when i do so...i found out that the component output was distorted...half of the video can see obvious interlaced field while the other half dont... i'm going to call the installer and see what they could do... probably need to change to new decoder doh.gif got a defected decoder pulak :|

i'm really considering subscribing to B.yond. I have some issues though.. hmm.gif

1. Is it worth changing my comfortable viewing of SD programmes right now now to HD? I know it's 5 HD channels of which I can get 4 of them except HBO. I heard there are problems with the sound between SD and HD. Is this a big problem? And is SD channels on B.Yond better or worse compared to the old decoder?

2. Is it very complicated to watch HD? Im just a normal guy who just wants to watch his ASTRO without too many things to set up. If I do get B.Yond, is there any urgent and necessary things I have to set up on my own after the installer do the necessary stuff? If so, anyone care to tell me, what I should do to get the best possible viewing of HD?

3. Anyone knows how long it takes to get B.Yond installed in JB?

Thanks. By the way. If you EPL fans out there remember, ASTRO announced back in October that they have secured the rights to all 380 matches of EPL starting next season. I wrote to one of the newspapers suggesting Astro to show simultaneous matches via the Red button on the remote instead of setting up specific channels for clubs like Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool,o etc.

Do you think Astro now has the capabilities to show all 380 matches LIVE with B.Yond? Imagine 380 EPL matches in HD!!! drool.gif

2. there was nothing to set up. After the installer hooked up everything and left I waited about 20 minutes for the card activation and voila! that's it.

You only need to set up a bit if you have a surround system and want digital audio thru the receiver - whether your receiver has HDMI or only coax, etc etc.

3. setting up specific channels is not Astro's job - they only buy those channels from the clubs themselves (i.e LFC TV, Barca TV, Arsenal TV, Chelsea TV and Manutd TV)

4. I think the red button for match selection was already available on SKY even without HD, so it's got nothing to do with ESPN HD or Astro Byond. Perhaps if Astro decided to they can introduce the same interactive platform...

now 1. if you are excited about EPL in HD, how can you think it's not worth it?

Pls can you tell how to lock it. After choosing #18 3a(VH), it goes back to #1, someone mentioned about 'edit' button.
How does it work? blink.gif
