I have followed this thread and V1 thread closely.

After observations, finally called Astro CS this morning to subscribe the Astro Beyond, I was told ESPN HD will be made available very very soon in Jan. Hopefully within 24 hours, I would receive call from Astro to arrange for AB installer. and AB installation within 10 working days. Cheers.

I even asked Astro CS is any privilege for pioneer subscribers like myself (member since 1998 :haha ), she told me that Astro may have promotions for loyal subscribers. I wish they will keep to their promise, they should not aim for new subscriber but also to 'maintain' their existing subscriber though there are the sole satellite TV service provider currently.

is it really have any promotion for loyal subscribers?
but my current subscription are starting on 2005,
before this is under my dad's name,
but we cancel the subscription and use the 'newer' decoder from my rental house..

hopefully astro will provide us the promotion,
i do not get any promotion except of free 1 month AOD subscription,
as my asked my colleague,
she said she does not get it.. smile.gif

one sharing; just realized if press the "Back" button, this will change to the previous channel, if press the "Back" button again then it will move back to the current channel.

TQ brother, just noticed. Hope more brothers will let us know if they come across any new 'findings'!
i still dont know how to change #1 Measat 3 to #18 Measat 3A (which give better reception around 90% 250). Pls anybody can help (i remember someone mention in earlier thread V1)? sad.gif

I'm just wondering, why ASTRO's new decoder didnt have a setting to output default resolutions as it is broadcasted? For example if the channel is 576i, then just output that, etc... instead of forcing us to choose 720p or 1080i... I understand this option allows hd ready tv to be viewed, but if only they could include another option with "Broadcasted resolution".
Broadcast resolution? I like this thing. biggrin.gif
But not so sure whether other tv broadcaster such as SKY TV also implement this setting.

Granada TV is actually replacing BBC Entertainment...

I'm not happy with the change, tho. I want back BBCE. I watch Red Dwarf on that channel -.-

(Stupid Metrovision last time cancel the show halfway, typical of Malaysian TV stations)

An option I'd like to see is i60 pull-up. For various reasons.

yah, but I dun mean Astro transmit in 1080i60. I mean just include an option for the decoder to pull the signal up to 1080i60 from 1080i50 (or 720p60 from 720p50). Because currently only got two companies making HDMI video capture card for PC (Auzentech's not out yet). Only BlackMagic Design's card support 1080i50. AVerMedia's card only support 1080i60. But AVerMedia's card is very much cheaper and comes with a WinMCE plugin so can view 1080 res image on HD LCD display. Sure, they dun sell the AVerMedia here, but buying from Amazon and then sending to VPost still way cheaper than getting a BlackMagic locally. 1U MacAsia want RM1200 for the BlackMagic Intensity. My calculations tell me that the AVerMedia card comes up to only RM450 if buy from Amazon then ship to vPost. And I'm sure surely got older 1st gen HD-ready TV that cannot support 50Hz HD...

Har? If astro does allow that option, I'd rather not select it.... because there goes all the progressive frames if you choose 1080i60 since it will definitely be interpolated... and the fact that we are in PAL region.... videos that are PAL native which could be progressive frames extractable be ruined by the interpolation....

Astro transmit 1080p? I thought they only transmit 1080i?

In any case tho, the idea is for support for cheaper HDMI video capture cards. RM1200 is a lot, and sumore no guaranteed support for usage in WinMCE. Otoh, Avermedia's card got support guaranteed, but won't receive 50Hz input (I had a long talk with their support staff). And there's no equivalent in Asian region. Only US have AVerMedia HDMI video capture cards.

Edit: turns out that the Auzentech's HDMI cannot be used for capture at all...

The only thing I can say is - if we love watching advertisement sin HD... then we are going to love Astro Byond. It's a cable channel that we pay for - yet we seem to have just as much adverts... what's the point?

Yes astro transmits 1080i only... not P..but in those 1080i frames, there could be progressive too, especially HBO HD. Most films are shot in 24fps, but when it comes to PAL region, it will be faster 4% to 25fps (this goes the same to PAL dvd's...the movies are 4% faster in speed...thus the run length time is shorter).... and if you notice astro's SD channels, like hbo... they tend to be progressive frames even though it was broadcasted in 25i... you wont see interlacing lines on the movie itself, but maybe on those hbo's own animated logo like "you are now watching xxxx"

so I'm very sure most...not all of HBO HD movies broadcasted could be progressive frames too but in interlaced transmission lol... (actually i dont know how to explain it well all these term, all i know is when you put those video inside TMPGENC and select the correct field order and frame...walla all progressive frames, no deinterlacing required...thats what I did with my recorded medias =P and of course it really depends on the show. If you are talking about concerts...then the chances are very little, but if u are talking about EU/PAL region shot music video, US series, yeah they are mostly seen to be progressive in mtv/[v]/star world )

Hi fellow Byonder, my byond set was installed on the 26th of Dec, good pq and all but the installer left a bitter taste in my mouth. Rude and cunning, he took both of my decoders and RM80.00 as well. When I enquired with Astro a few days later, they said no such thing, so they contacted the installer to refund my RM80, yet on the 31st, he gave my mom only the old decoder but refused to refund RM80, instead offered only RM60 if we really want to take cash.

I refused to succumbed to the scum and made numerous reports to Astro( still under investigation) and i just came back from Astro Ipoh, which they told me Astro KL got it wrong in the their T&C as my second decoder was under the 50% promotion campaign so I need to keep the decoder and have to pay RM80. I felt that they are siding witht he installer. I would like to ask fellow lyners, if any of you changed both decoders and need to pay RM80 ? Thanks

Most HDTV production is 1080p, it's just transmission that is 1080i as it uses less bandwidth.

I wasn't charged the RM80 either. I think the T&C is that as long as the set is complete working condition there's no charge. I return my decoder, remote and dish, but kept the wiring.
