Hello,

I'm just about to change my old phone and looking for my 1st smart phone. After goes through lots of information, finally my choice would be either Legend or desire. I like Legend design a lot as I still prefer smaller sized phone.

However I'm not yet planning to subscribe to any data plan as I can fully utilized the availability of Wifi connection at my workplace...since HTC Legend wifi connection is said to be disappointed, should I take Desire instead?

they both having same connectivity card , where did you hear this from ? My desire is having 2 or 3 bar , even my wireless router is 100m beside me rclxub.gif ... My router is Linksys WRT54GL , 2.4ghz channel a/b/g ... but still , I have ran some test speed , apps from speedtest.net , getting 800kbs ++ (subscribing 1mb streamyx) ... At first I thought the 2 3 bars mean low signal , but it still getting good speed , maybe got bugs with the software doh.gif ..

if you still worry , borrow legend from friend or go to shop test by yourself . biggrin.gif

Thanks....I read from the Legend thread...some members there complains about Legend weak wifi reception. I'm not quite sure what did they mean by weak...is that mean your internet browsing will be interrupted from time to time?

They mean weak is comparing with nexus or desire ? from youtube , the legend perform quite well . Although Desire is faster like 1 or 2 seconds , because better processing speed . This difference only noticeable when loading high content of html code or flash . if you dont mind 1 of 2 secs , you can get Legend .. it's not more than 10 seconds delay.

Of course ~~~ Nexus is directly under Google ,and Google is the copyright holder still of Android . So any updates will directly goes for Nexus one first . Although there are other android phone like HTC , Samsung ,.. they may need 4 or 5 months to get update .

Sometimes, signal strength does not reflect on the signal quality. Unless your device can show RSSI value (and other parameters), we may never know what is the signal condition. I never took those signal bars seriously because like you experienced, they don't match. I can still get good transfer speed. smile.gif

Yes. It works this way. Say your phone has 3G and WIFI activated. When you're in a location without WIFI, naturally your 3G will be utilized when you access data connection. Then you move into a location with WIFI access, your phone will automatically switch to the WIFI connection for data.

Like the iPhone, it prioritize on the WIFI connection first and lastly the 3G/Edge/GPRS connection. This is because WIFI is most likely free while 3G/Edge/GPRS connection will incur a fee. If you watch youtube you will notice a difference. When on WIFI, the stream quality is better than when on 3G/Edge/GPRS. This is because the stream is downsampled to conserve bandwidth when you're on 3G/Edge/GPRS to help save cost.

This is the response I have been getting so far. But I've seen people 'losing root' when they upgrade their software. So a full recovery may be able to unroot. I can't be sure now because I don't have an Android device at the moment.
