Can someone please help me out with some of these questions. My dad is thinking of getting a new compact camera. So these are the few choices. I would like to know what are the pros and cons of these camera.

Canon S90
Canon G11
Lumix LX3

Thanks

mmm here's my take

S90 - slimmest. better in low light than G11.
G11 - bulky. lots of buttons to adjust settings, instead of diving into menus
LX3 - thicker than S90 but smaller than G11. quality and low light performance comparable to S90. got hotshoe to expand it to a system

Hi,
i'm new to this DLSR . im currently using olympus 1030. its a good sturdy camera but i want to upgrade to dlsr

since im a newbie, i would like to get some opinions from the sifus here on which brand and model that would suite me as a student .

sony : a330 or a380
both in aussie price : a330 twin lens kit costs around 850 aud
a380 twin less kit cost around 1.2k aud

( anyone knows if its cheaper in msia ? )

canon or nikon might suit me? please advise!

i'm gonna say D90, but a canon fan would say otherwise tongue.gif
seems reasonable to me. DSLR price dont go down fast until they're replaced with a new model

Thanks dvlzpgrd for youy reply. Anyway i have now got my 1000d, a little cheaper than the price that i had said earlier.
But had a annoying experience!!!!!!!! I COULDN'T GET MY PICS TO LOAD INTO MY PC[/B]**$#%&^%$#^^^[/SIZE].
I had installed all the softwares provided in two different machines (XP & W7), tried connecting 1000d to both machines with usb cable (previously used for DMC FZ5), which i still use to connect my Asus smartphone. Tried connecting with card reader, still nothing was detected by both machines!! Also formatted the card (causing me to lose my pioneer DSLR pics). Tried using non HS card - only detected if connected thru card reader. Totally pissed i went back to dealer and got a replacement SDHC....and still had the same problem. So i decided to head for Canon customer service ..and then something struck me....and yes it worked finally biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Can any of u guys guess what was the problem or have any of u encountered the same situation ???

Uh, okay? You're not supposed to use a foreign cable with your 1000D, you're supposed to use the one which comes along with your camera. Different cables sometimes have extras (located in the cylindrical thing attached to the wire) that is special for each device, if it is there.

Anyway, problems should go to the EOS Family thread. This isn't a call-to-help topic, it's a recommendation topic.

I'm sorry for breaching the thread topic, guess i got carried away. But anyway u r right Wanderer, the cable was the problem. It worked fine when i used the provided cable.

**Thanks for your concern, Love Money, but the card the wasn't the problem (anyway it was a sandisk)

Doesn't mean no motor = no good.

Go and try them out yourself, but make sure not to succumb to any technical stats. They're not important at all because we're comparing potato with potato here. Choose the one that feels best to you.

It's no problem, anyway. Just so you know the cable that comes with Canon has some special functions in the cylinder attachment, so yea. The camera won't work with other cables.

Also, if your card reader won't read, 99% it's the card reader's problem. Cards never experience much problems, they're dummy-proof toys. nod.gif

I dont know which is better as i am a newbie in DSLR world. But What i know is D3000 (not AP) can be bought at a lot more cheaper price (with kit lens), coz i was offered the same price as the 1000D.
