As for why I recommend LCD TV IPS panel, these bastards uses the very latest IPS Alpha panel which is the latest and most advance IPS tech to date. I cant even see the purple glow like I used to when I was using 2007WFP. Not to mention, the response time has gotten really low. The most important factor is the pricetag. You can get a bigger panel for less. I really cant see any use of having Dell 30" IPS panel which sport 2560x1600.

I have engineers working for my company - mainly the designer, they need a big resolution monitor to work in order to see all the required details in one screen. That is when 30" LCD monitors sporting 2560x1600 comes in handy. Apparently 30" is still small for them, they need to hook up dual 30" and put it side by side. I'm using 30" ACD at home, a few forumers like ianho here are also using it, just for web surfing. There's no such thing as too big for us. Just a matter of preference.

There isn't any IPS panel without the prefixes. IPS is just a main name for many of it's model. Just like Mercedes to cars, there are E class, S class etc.
*
Interesting. Because according to Dell's technical service department, the U2410 I am currently using is based on a normal IPS panel. Misinformation on their behalf perhaps? Wouldn't be the first time.

nah~~i waiting for the new revision...... if i change now, my "unreleased to public" firmware will be gone and i will start having serious dithering issue in sRGB and aRGB mode in my coming unit~ sweat.gif

just a summary of issue in U2410:
- dithering in sRGB, aRGB (will be fixed in coming firmware, seem not yet release to public but its in my monitor now~ biggrin.gif )
- pink/green tinting problem
- backlight bleeding (happen in 3 out of 4 unit~) 1st unit i didnt test this part as i dont know anything about this~
- card reader problem - only happen in my 4th unit(current)... not able to read both my SD and SDHC card~ said it not formatted and fail to format it.

Woahh... I think you misunderstood. Im just saying the godlike resolution is pointless if you are using it from a few ft away, just like what most people did with their LCD TV. Even at FHD already cant read a damn thing let alone 2560x1600. Of course for designer or serious ACAD works, its never enough but we are discussing these as for entertainment point of view didnt we?

Maybe they're just trying to keep things simple, introducing too much jargons will just confuse the newbies. U2410 is running on H-IPS. LG.Philips LM240WU4-SLB1 to be exact. It is a good value for money, no doubt about it. I have a NEC 25.5" 2690WUXI running on H-IPS A-TW panel which costs me almost 4k - that is expensive compared to the DELL.

Some claimed that NEC uses the best hand pick panel which has much better calibration than those that Dell gets. I almost bought a NEC 19" AS-IPS for 2k before I slap myself real hard and end up with Dell 2007WFP for 1.3k, 3 years ago.

I believe some high end/professional NEC and Eizo monitors are still manufactured in Japan, panels are soursed from Taiwan/Korea/Japan.. I believe only sharp manufacture their own panels, in Japan (but for TVs)
