hi all, i need some help from those of you who planned your trip to hong kong through travel agency..

i am planning to go to hong kong and shenzhen (free & easy) in december, and i was wondering would it be cheaper to book flights and
accommodations through Air Asia or travel agency..

i've checked AA's rates and the rates are quite high.. therefore, i would like to know if any of you booked your trip through travel agency.. would it be cheaper? i would also like to find out which travel agencies in KL are reputable which offer reasonable price for the type of package i'm looking for..

also, i don't want to follow a tour group because they usually bring tourist to those typical tourist spots which i'm not really keen on going.. my main intention for this trip is to shop and some sight-seeing which i believe i can organise myself.. it is not really difficult to travel around HK right as i can refer to the maps and such..

i'll be glad if someone can help me out regarding the stated matter above..

thanks smile.gif

Hi jocsp, i just came back yesterday from HongKong. Well, with my own experiences "Dorsett Seaview HK" or "Bridal Tea House in YauMaDei" probably would be the best which located centrally chain either to "HongKong Island or Lautau Island" with MTR.

I stayed about 5 days in Dorsett Seaview HK walk less than 5 minutes it will lead me into Yau Ma Tei MTR station which definitely a good location. As soon i coming out from the Dorsett Seaview Hotel, Temple Street is already able to be seen (* some ppls may thought Temple Street just a short street which behind the Dorsett Seaview Hotel, in actual the real Attraction of Night Market in Temple Street is located across the street of Portland Street cos is quite a distance to finish the whole Night Market in Temple Street.)

Dorsett & Bridal both quite close to each other in Arthur Street, well no complains at all for both of these unless if you thinking on the budget wise then try to make a good decision with comparing the price.

About the safety, well some said in Temple Street is not really safe but what i can tell is not truth... you would able to see "Ah Sir" is reallly doing their jobs street walking around the area surrounding those tourism attraction. I don't see any safety issues at all in the Hotel i stayed, probably the street is too crowded in the night so i bet you may still feel safe walking alone in the night.

Oh.. fyi , the weather now in HK is really getting cold and freezing during night time. I was so glad to travel with such a great weather during my 5 days past in HK!! thumbup.gif

Few free to ask if you want to know more..

hi stanley, thanks for sharing your experience.. is the weather something like Genting's? just wanna know, how come you didn't stay in Metropark Hotel because i think that hotel is quite famous in terms of location and price right.. correct me if i'm wrong.. i'm actually planning to visit Lantau Island, The Big Buddha and one-day trip to Shenzhen that's why i would like to stay in a hotel which is convenient for me to travel to those places..

i still can't figure out the differences between Tsim Sa Tsui, Mongkok, HK Island etc. Let say if i stay in Mongkok, is it difficult for me to travel to other places like Central and such where the Time Square shopping centre, Sogo etc. are located.. The previous time i went to HK, I actually traveled in the main places like Central, Wan Chai etc. that's why i'm quite blur about places like Mongkok and Tsim Sa Tsui..

Well, the Weather probably would be much better compared with Genting, its much cooler. Metropark Hotel did not came into my consideration during my initial planning as the prices wasn't cheap as compare to Dorsett Seaview or either Bridal Tea House when i chekced , both went to my last options and the prices HK about 400 HK per Night which equal to RM180++ in Msia and location is easily connected to either MongKok Station, Yau Ma Tei with credits alot of food to catch up in Yau Ma Tei esp in the night. They may be several reason i pick either 2 of that, 1st is close to all the nice stuff i wanna get n find in, 2nd is alot of ppl shall be gather around in Mongkok, Tung Choi Street, Fa Yuen Street or Sneakers Street during night time.. I not into comments of anys why MetroPark is not good or why i did not pick, just tat i'm not that familiar and getting less feedback about MetroPark.. Apparently, most of those famous blogger's perfers to visit Dorsett either Bridal, Dorsett look promising but remember to insist on "Non Smoking Room" and Bridal Tea House look pretty romance in term of their design & decoration.

Regard to localization, if you look into their map HongKong "Country" were actually splitted into fews areas or so called "States" like KL, Perak, Johor.. in Msia. So for HongKong right for the Main District they called in Hong Kong Island which covered ( Sheung Wang, Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, and so on.. ), Kowloon District( Mongkok, Tsim Sa Tsui, Jordan, Yau Ma Dei,  Prince Edward .. etc), Lantau Island ( Tung Chung <-- Ngong Ping cable car located , Sunny Bay <-- DisneyLand located) , New Territories ( Lo Wu <-- this is the station will enter to Shen Zhen , Yuen Long .. etc )

*HongKong island is not the Country but is like a district similar to stated, somehow they named it into HongKong and confuse ppl like us as foreigner's.

If you staying in Mongkok, which located in Kowloon District and travel to Centrel in HongKong Island is not difficult at all.. You have too respect on your MTR transportation it build all in one to connect all the places to be visit all around the place in HK. let me put this way so you may follow exactly take MongKok Station--> Look for the MTR Lane Board which Visible to "Central", usually they have left and right lane ( the opposite is heading to differ direction, and those appeared in Grey Colour wording means this train didnot travel to they). In Mongkok Station you may find they have 2 lane, 1 is heading to Central and other 1 is heading to *** Keng Leng ( They used the last station as their direction heading as marking to allow you easily recognise which lane is heading to which location tat bypast).

Time Square is located in Causeway Bay aka Tung Lo Wan if not mistaken but some attraction may reach upon the station n walk few minutes, some may required u reach the station to take taxi to due to quite a distances for walking so no point. ( 4 person sharing 1 taxi is worth TRUST ME, is not that expensive as other ppl comments in here but is something u need to know whether suitable to take taxi or not during peak hour or non-pick hour).

Let me know if you still required any info..  quite free today at home.. lol icon_rolleyes.gif

thanks again for your effort writing this.. erm, i saw the Bridal Tea House doesn't look very pleasant.. maybe i saw the other one rather than the one you mentioned cos' i think there are few of them right in HK.. maybe i'll check on Dorsett.. did you book your trip through travel agency or by yourself? you seemed to be quite familiar with the place.. i'm sure you had a great time there..

U're welcome. I spend almost few months understand their transportation and coordinate them into my attraction list, that was the fun you get to know when you organize everything by urself and i love doing that even sometimes it gave me a hardtime in deciding certain things.

I not sure how unpleasant it thought for you.. maybe the pictures tell how you gonna stayed. I did not go through any single Travel Agency, but if you wish to get through teh Agency then bear in mind that certain un-preferrable places will be included on the agency list when u subcribing their packages. I believe few post before that someone mentioned a point which i strongly agreed is Agency also perform the same things like i do, Searching & Finding the best offer they could provide from HK.

Well, a few tips for you is if you wish to get cheaper rates on Hotel you may go either http://www.hotelscombined.com/ <-- if provided you the best rate all around the Online Booking Agency, basically the site is performing a sort searching out all the prices provided by the agency with same hotel.

But for certain like Dorsett Seaview, You should visit the site directly http://hongkonghotel.dorsettseaview.com.hk/ under reservation, check on the Internet Promotion section and it should able to tell you exact prices subject to tax and service charge (* but Dorsett did charge additional 10% when you perform the payment at the Hotel so their reservation only utilize ur Credit Card as gurantee no charge yet; Read the Term & Conditions once you made the reservation) I had no offending toward the 10% service charge as it really stated on the Term & Condition just that it was so sudden to know but it doesn't bother me much with such a great service and good quality provided. icon_rolleyes.gif

I brought too many stuff during my visit so is really having a great time, but if you think walking to search for something wasn't something you prefer to do so then go for agency to avoid the heavy sore foot.. as i can feel the pain every single day throughout my journey. Well, budget trip is always like tat pay for what you get. Agency basically quote something that out of my expectation but if you need something cheap for entrance fee such as The Peak + Sky Terrance + Madam Tussauds which usually it cost you around 190HK if you buy from the entering counter, take a visit to the nearest China Travel Service (HongKong): http://www.ctshk.com/english/ticket/admticket_hk.htm#dl, they have alot of branches in HK near to MTR station either Pier aka Ferry. The agency only available through HongKong and offering ticket purchase with the attraction around HK, the only one i found worth to purchase with they is The Peak + Sky Terrance + Madam Tussauds  which cost in total 155 , so why not. They're promising so nothing to be afraid as i tried. I appeared to be able to by past one of their branches during my arrival in Tsim Sha Tsui Pier so i just purchase it there. Just pick the date to be visit and deal.

So all i would said is make the wise decision which suit to you, no one has the best options for you  rclxms.gif Is time to reward back to all the forumer's in HK posts which making alot of sharing and benefits to all ppls like us.  notworthy.gif
