I'm using a Public Bank DB as well. As far as I know, it works exactly the same as credit card. But to pay for fees and stuff, if your fees did not mention any extra charges for credit usage, then most likely there will not be any extra charges.

You need to factoring in the loss in exchange rate as well. Since you are paying in Pound Sterling, the amount paid will first be converted into US Dollar then Malaysian Ringgit as US Dollar is used as the base currency.

Did you have enough money inside the card ? If you swipe your card at the kiosk, they will need a deposit of RM200 regardless how much worth of petrol you are pumping.

If this is the case, you can still use your MU debit card to pay for petrol. Just go to the cashier counter and only exact petrol pumped will be charged.

This just for those who using DC when checking-in in Hotel's where hotel may inquire gurantee during your stay
FYI:

1. Dont allow the FrontDesk staff swipe your DC as even the slip shows "PreAuth" but actually it's already deduct certain amount from for DC account

2. DC holder only obligate to give the DC card number and the expiry date (of the card) along with the 3 digit number (which we can found behind the DC card)

hope this might help blush.gif

No. For most banks such as Maybank, CIMB Bank and Public Bank regular savings account, the initial deposit is RM250 regardless whether you are still a minor or not. They will however, let you to open a regular savings account with an initial deposit of only RM50 if you have a letter of employment or may be an offer letter from university.

Another account with a very low account opening deposit is "Basic Savings Account". Every bank has this account. Initial deposit is only RM20 but if your main purpose is to get a VISA debit card, then this account is not right for you as they will only issue you the regular ATM card.

Let's say once you checking in, you give your DC to the Frontdesk staff to verify your DC.
For example, you room cost you RM 175nett Per-nite and they will swipe it for verification twice of the Room charge amount perhaps RM350

If credit card, it's just pre-hang that amount of RM350 from total credit limit of your credit card (let's say your CC limit is RM5000) for certain of time.
Usally 7-14 days. That amount doesnt deduct yet from your account but yet it holds RM350 from total credit of RM5000.
So, you still have RM5000-RM350 = RM4650 to be use for other credit purpose.
If you give use the same card for other verification, it will deduct like RM4650-RM650 = RM4000 on the same period.
Your slip will shows describtion as "Pre-Auth" or "Pre-Authorize" to hold that certain amount in certain period.

The "Pre-Auth" amount can be release in 3 ways (as i know it)
1. When they use "Pre-Comp" (same as "Sale"), it will deduct same amount or less then max amount that they have alrdy "Pre-Auth"
2. Void the "Pre-Auth" amount on the same day, make sure that you have the copy slip of it indicate that it has been Voided.
(You have right on it, They cannot hide it. Just ask for it)
3. Pre-Auth amount release when it pass the "Pre-Auth" period of 7-14 days (depend on CC terminal, i'm not certain about it)

Ok. If you use DC as to gurantee and need to be verify, constrain it just to give the DC number , Expiry Date and the 3 digit (Authorize Swipe) to the Front Desk staff. Dont allow them to swipe unless there is certain amount has been charge due on you, then you give to them. Remember to who you give just in case to avoid fraud in future.
And before that, dont ever allow the DC to be swipe because even the slip shows "Pre-Auth", actually that amount alrdy has been deducted from your account unless it Void on the same day. Once they make the terminal credit card settlement, your have to refer to your bank for inquiry or refund if got any mistakes happen.

So back to your question, verify the DC will only deduct the amount and it not the same as CC that can hold certain amount of credit in certain period. USage charge fee can only be refer once you reiceve you account statement or check via online banking for transaction activity record.

Wow, terrible. If they insists to swipe my DC, do I need to have the copy slip to indicate it has been voided as the case with CC? The fake 'Pre-Auth' amount is normally twice of your room charge?Means RM350 if your room is RM175 nett per night?
