interesting comparison.. sometimes wonder those so called branded, if need to pay 30-40% more just for similar or even less features than the chinese ones..

yeah DTS and 5.1 DD should be fine... actual DTS-MA and True HD cannot.

Well, try to play Dolby - The Sound Of High Definition II (in BDMV)with the 300D the PQ good but no sound. It cant downmix to Dolby Digital too.Havent try the Dts-HD Master yet.Anyway, happy with the player, able to play all the format i throw at it.Is there any multi-media player that can decode/bitstream both th HQ-Audio and downmix both to SD-Audio as well?

anyone connected their 1073DD player using just the SPDIF digital out for audio to AVR?
i encounter a little bug. with the SPDIF set to RAW mode, the player can bitstream stereo, DD & DTS for MOVIE without problem.
but for MUSIC mode, (with SPDIF RAW), there's no sound output for all my mp3. if i set to SPDIF LPCM, there's sound output.
if i were to connect additional composite L+R channel analog audio cable, there'll be sound for my mp3.
any other method to solve?

Hmm....Can the AVR decode MP3 bitstream? When the 1073 is configure to RAW, it means it will output the actual compress bitstream. So if the source is DTS, then DTS bitstream will be send to the SPDIF or Coaxial.

I feel the 1073 maker could made some intelligence to this selection by giving us more flexibility. Example, if the media player decode following audio format, it allows us to select if we want it to be RAW or PCM format.

To get a good system, the box should allow the following....

AC3 -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (User with AC3 capable receiver will set to RAW)
DTS -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (User with DTS capable receiver will set to RAW)
HEAAC/AAC -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (User with AAC capable receiver will set to RAW - but so far no such AMP I think)
Windows Media Audio 9 -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (Pioneer AV AMP support this bitstream)
Others -> Force to PCM since it will not be likely supported by any AMP.

Then the ultimate selection is....

HEAAC/AAC -> RAW/LPCM/Re-encode to AC3(plus)....Full 5.1(7.1) Audio for HEAAC (Maybe asking too much)..

So it give me less hassle to keep switching my 1073 depending on my source. Any comments?

why need HEAAC/AAC? still need to convert first to these non standard format which is a compromise just because MKV can't support HD audio...
just ask for DTS-MA/TrueHD pass thro is better IMHO...

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but wouldn't it be possible to decode DTS-MA with a AV amp that support this format? Since the RTL1073 could play BDiso then I assume it should be able to handle DTS-MA raw stream. Anyone could confirm my finding?

I am still having some problem in getting a multichannel HE-AAC. So I only get 2 PCM downmix from a HE-AAC 5.1 source.

Don't know much about this player but most important for this type of china made player is how frequent the manufacturer comes out with updates of their firmware. So find out from the seller about that!

Saw somewhere in other thread that Clamul S6T was OEM by Diyomate S6T. So, should expect similar performance.

I always thought my Realtek 1073DD media player can play any damn thing you throw at it... but guess what... I just downloaded videos from my Sony miniDV Handycam, in DV format.... and my media player does not recognise it!!!

Common, DV tapes have been around for so many years already and is so widespread. Anyone of you been successful playing DV files?

Another thing is mkvs with hiccups, i.e. slight corrupted sections. The player will just stop, not like in a PC where it will skip to the next good section. Why like that one? Is it firmware problem?

Which RT1073DD player is yours? Also, what's the file extension of your Sony MiniDV?

guys, if I wanted something that can play most media type and also and have a client in bittorrent in the player, will AC Ryan be the best choice?

Can EXtreamer do that?

I did some shopping today and found out at Perangin mall Xtreamer selling for RM599. Kinda good price I would say.

Well, if that's all you need then anything from RM350-599 will do the job. But if you need more than just wait a bit longer. They are coming out with Realtek 1283 based players with recodring function very soon. Infact some manufacturers have already launch theirs! http://www.moresales.com.my/catalog/entry/oiywbijy.shtml
Price in there is very high but they should be in the region of RM599 when other manufacturer starts mass production!

Nope, in fact the HiMedia has the best firmware so far. But their HD-500B price is not competitive enough. Look for my [WTS] under my signature sometime this week! Will offer a similar player at bargain price once I sort out the players performance & settle the the deal with the manufacturer.

Hi, saw Mede8er in Viewnet and C-zone liao. Price almost same as POHD. Got some statement from friend stated that Med8er is better then POHD:
1) Mede8er special fan and mount assembly and the mount parts developed in South Africa. - The net result is a much less fan noise and this is very important in a home theatre environment.

2) Mede8er only use 3 amp Power supply VS 2 Amp (very borderline for large size internal HDD with simultaneous hosting power requirements on USB host ports)

3) Free Mede8er Carry Case

4) Included USB Cable and Dongle Docking assembly for much better WiFi dongle placement - Result much better WiFi performance.

5) Mede8er has control buttons on front facia -- ACRyan non

6) Mede8er has integrated NAS in main setup menu with "auto turn on" when unit is re powered.

7) Mede8er has special In Folder jpeg preview

8) Mede8er has HD GUI

9) Mede8er has Time Bar Jump feature

10) Mede8er has Jump by file number in Media Library - input number on remote

11) New improved SD card reader – ACRyan cannot remove card with fingers - require some object to asssit is removing

12) Mede8er has Save and Restore Configuration feature. – ACRyan ??.

13) Mede8ar has Remote Navigation button dual use for FF/FW/PLAY/PAUSE/VOL UP/VOL DOWN

14) Mede8er has new and better implementation of Subtitle Screen

15) Mede8er has more stable firmware as they put enormous effort into testing before releasing versions.

16) Mede8er has much better Media Library section and you can see many differences such as -- 9 lines of Folders or files – ACRyan 5

17 Mede8er has updated and improved GOTO application

Some more Mede8er can up scale DVD to 1080p. Wa low eh.......

Well, you cannot simply say RM400 & below is a reasonable price just because your are selling it cheap with only 6 months warranty. No offence bro! As per what you stated in your [BULK] thread "Why price cheap ? -Self import~ part time business here. I'm a violin teacher. ~sometimes busy teaching class in afternoon, Process order might slower a bit. (1-2days)."
Those Low Yat retailers have to keep stock & the distributor have to give them Credit Terms & also for distributor there's a holding cost, 1 year warranty etc! etc!
