anyone connected their 1073DD player using just the SPDIF digital out for audio to AVR?
i encounter a little bug. with the SPDIF set to RAW mode, the player can bitstream stereo, DD & DTS for MOVIE without problem.
but for MUSIC mode, (with SPDIF RAW), there's no sound output for all my mp3. if i set to SPDIF LPCM, there's sound output.
if i were to connect additional composite L+R channel analog audio cable, there'll be sound for my mp3.
any other method to solve?

Hmm....Can the AVR decode MP3 bitstream? When the 1073 is configure to RAW, it means it will output the actual compress bitstream. So if the source is DTS, then DTS bitstream will be send to the SPDIF or Coaxial.

I feel the 1073 maker could made some intelligence to this selection by giving us more flexibility. Example, if the media player decode following audio format, it allows us to select if we want it to be RAW or PCM format.

To get a good system, the box should allow the following....

AC3 -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (User with AC3 capable receiver will set to RAW)
DTS -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (User with DTS capable receiver will set to RAW)
HEAAC/AAC -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (User with AAC capable receiver will set to RAW - but so far no such AMP I think)
Windows Media Audio 9 -> Selectable for RAW or LPCM (Pioneer AV AMP support this bitstream)
Others -> Force to PCM since it will not be likely supported by any AMP.

Then the ultimate selection is....

HEAAC/AAC -> RAW/LPCM/Re-encode to AC3(plus)....Full 5.1(7.1) Audio for HEAAC (Maybe asking too much)..

So it give me less hassle to keep switching my 1073 depending on my source. Any comments?

why need HEAAC/AAC? still need to convert first to these non standard format which is a compromise just because MKV can't support HD audio...
just ask for DTS-MA/TrueHD pass thro is better IMHO...

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but wouldn't it be possible to decode DTS-MA with a AV amp that support this format? Since the RTL1073 could play BDiso then I assume it should be able to handle DTS-MA raw stream. Anyone could confirm my finding?

I am still having some problem in getting a multichannel HE-AAC. So I only get 2 PCM downmix from a HE-AAC 5.1 source.
