Neutered dogs tend to live longer, is it true?

I managed to distract him from biting his paws these few days...keep him busy...unfortunately too happy playing until don't want to sleep....*faint*

I honestly have no idea if neutering would make a dog live longer...but I like to believe that a healthy dog is a dog that has a good immune system, and that comes from a balanced diet, some exercise as well as a body that's not pumped full of medication and what not. I guess it all depends on a dog's well-being. Neutering is not the 'magical cure' for a longer life...there are neutered dogs who get cancer too.

Hi Nitrous, nice to meet you smile.gif I feed my dogs a raw diet, but previously I did feed Scottie kibble like Royal Canin and Nutri Edge, etc. I've tried Orijen for Scottie's puppies too, and they did quite well on it...perhaps you could try that smile.gif Or, if you would like to try raw, I'm helping my friend to sell her raw food (hehe, promote a bit tongue.gif) so if you would like to try that or want to know more about it, let me know smile.gif
Hi
Initially i wanted Orijen, but heard that it contains rather high protein content. That is why I wanted to try Innova Puppy, but so far I could not get a retailer/shop which carries it, thus I m doubting that I can continue with my plans on Innova. I try to avoid raw for now, until at least he is 1 year old, but in the mean time, giving him the best I could while he is growing up.
But thanks for your welcome, and appreciate your help in this.
Anyone know where I can get hold of a small bag of Innova Puppy? cry.gif

Well, a raw diet doesn't have to be fed when they are adults. I've alternated Scottie's puppies with kibble and raw since they were 6 weeks old, and they loved the food smile.gif But I don't want to force it on you if you're not keen...just want to let you know that raw is not just for adult dogs smile.gif

LOL....I'm not Ray. tongue.gif Please call me Audrey smile.gif

I haven't actually sent Scottie for a stripping session, so I have no idea if a one time strip will result in the coat being harsh and wiry their whole life. But I THINK (theoretically) a one time strip would not cause the fur to do that, because when we clip the coat, both layers of coat will be gone...even if we have stripped it before, what will grow back will be the softer coat anyways because that is the inner coat. The harsh wiry coat will be the outer coat (which will grow much later...maybe not so much also if we keep clipping the coat). I have seen a show Min. Schnauzer before though, and their coat is not really that harsh like say, a wiry JRT...it's just more firm compared to Scottie's kind of coat, in my opinion. But like you said, stripping is VERY expensive (and it cannot be done all in one sitting, especially if it's the first time) so no point in doing it I guess...

That's cool that Sam's coat is what you wanted smile.gif Grooming is like that I think...the first time I sent Scottie for grooming, I didn't tell the groomer to leave his long eyelashes...they cut it so short he didn't look like my Scottie. haha! Needless to say I didn't send him back there again! The groomer I send Scottie to is quite good...I've been sending Scottie there since he was about 5-6 months old. But I've only let Scottie have the usual Schnauzer cut...not sure if that's what you meant by 'puppy cut', but I'm quite traditional in the sense that I prefer to have my dog look the way they should look breed-wise (or at least look about 90% that part tongue.gif). I am not partial to the 'Horse cut' style, but a lot of people like it, so to each their own I guess. I like Scottie the way he is now smile.gif
*
Audrey, haha.. sorry before callin u rayne tongue.gif ..

I see, yalo.. too expensive for 1st time hand strip even might not result in harsh and wiry coat.. maybe i try hand strip it by myself smile.gif ...

Ya, can let me know where u sent scottie grooming.. o any nice saloon around KL... nod.gif

LOL! No worries smile.gif

I guess you could learn how to strip yourself, but it's not that easy to do from what I've read. The tools itself are quite hard to find (most people import from overseas). Still, if you've mastered it, let me know...then I can learn from you! wink.gif

I send Scottie to Kuan Pet Salon in Kuchai Entrepreneurs' Park. Other grooming places that got lots of recommendation are like Pets Icon (NZX) and House of Groomers (they have a few branches). I have not personally sent Scottie there to groom, but since there are a lot of people who have been satisfied with their services, there sure has to be some quality there.

white schnauzer definitely need to take more care if want maintain the white color to be really white..
when i jst bought back kenji.. i always clean his beard with some liquid (forget what name ady coz i can't find it the 3rd time i restock then i buy another one that is not so useful n i din use d till now) that can use for cleaning beard after his meal..
i am using pure white lightening shampoo (1 All system), and super whitening gel (1 all system) to bath him (wait 10 min only wash out the shampoo from his body) and "soak" his beard,paws..whereever u think need to b more white for about 15 mins.
then i got use supplement brewer's yeast & garlic, skin + coat supplement from PetNatural's of Vermont ( which actually buy for my other dog but jst let both of them eat)..  maybe eating these supplement make him got thick fur haha.. or mayb is the natural born.. i not sure. smile.gif but when he is puppy that time i don't feel he got so thick fur..

if you want to buy a white sch.. buy a female one !!! haha.. can b kenji gf kekeke...  drool.gif

p/s: my kenji also like to lick his both front paws until bcome reddish n browish. the petshop ppl said i need to take care mayb there is any fungus or something on his paws. but i see nothing.. so just keep observe lo... really duno why they like to lick their paws...  shakehead.gif

brewer yeast & garlic.. i see... my sam 4 month only, can use?.. kenji also used it when puppyhood till mature...ya, that skin + coat sup PetNatural, i am feedin sam oso.. but cant see any result, maybe i took sam groomin lol.. cant really see his fur condition cz too short now... or hav u tried before the omega supplement?.. cz now wonder wan buy brewer yeast or Omega supp... maybe go for both, haha but expensive le tongue.gif

erm. for the whitening gel... after everytime i use it with shampoo. kenji does looks cleaner and whiter... so i think it is effective. but to totally make it a white beard really need daily care after meal and always let it be dry (beard). the whitening gel is recommend to apply on a clean dry coat. meaning after bath u can use it.. then after 15 min clean it. but i did not apply on dry coat la.. because it take ages to complete the whole process... bathing..cleaning.. drying.. applying white cream.. then cleaning.. then drying again.. hahaa. i just apply on his beard after cleaning the shampoo wit his beard still wet.

the liquid is from Gold Medal Pets brand..but forget wht is the exact name for the product d. i m not really expert in making the beard white as my kenji beard not really white also haha..
yes brewer yeast & garlic can be consume since puppy, i start feed kenji whey he was around 3months old if not mistaken. it is recommend by the pet shop owner which i bought kenji back.. the pet shop owner had a white schnauzer also name " shiro". he is bro of kenji hehe.
for the skin + coat sup PetNatural, actually i bought it for my another dog becuase of its fur dropping prob.. i go consult wit another pet shop owner which claim to have many experiences..he recommend to buy tis because it contain omega 3 & 6 for the dog to prevent its skin go to dry n fur drop. so i just buy and feed to both of my furkids lo haha..

i not really rmb when i start realize kenji got thick fur, but i think is at 6 month age later gua..
and nvm ur female sch can have more than 1 bf de.. hehe.. human canot brows.gif

Someone recommended me to use Carrington dog wash as my furkid tends to shed. I bath him today and unfortunately I saw him having liquid from his nose.

Anyone ever use this solution before?

hmm.gif I can't exactly remember how long I took to housetrain Scottie, but it definitely took a while, because I wasn't consistent enough due to my classes' schedules and stuff. I've read that if we want to housetrain a pup, it needs CONSTANT supervision and very consistent reinforcement for about a week for the pup to be considered fully housetrained. But since I didn't do that, I took longer than that...maybe about a month or two. When you let Sam go and play, you need to supervise him also...don't just let him run around. When you see him showing signs of eliminating, quickly bring him to the place you want him to go and let him eliminate there. After a while of doing this, he should get the idea.

Yeah, my parents say the same thing for Scottie as well...I have yet to neuter him, but I am thinking about it. Looking for the right vet and saving some money for the surgery, coz I've heard quite a few horror stories about neutering gone wrong, so I'm looking for a trusted vet that has had many successful surgeries and no complaints. smile.gif

Actually, it's okay to feed your pup at different times. That way, he won't be expecting you to feed him at the exact same time everyday (coz if you are too late, he might have vomit bile because his body was expecting food at the time and produce gastric juices for it). Feeding at different times makes it easier for us, and the dog learns to eat whenever there's food because they never know when the next meal will come. smile.gif It could be later or earlier, so they just eat whatever's been given to them.

I have not tried those programmable feeders, but they sound expensive.

My MS is on Orijen and he's doing really well. regarding high protein content, personally i think it's a myth. i've read white papers written by University research teams and all of them claims that high protein is a myth. if you like, just drop me your email and i can send it to you. the research saying that high protein causes kidney damages were done on rats.

if you look at the amount of calories per unit of dog food from various brands, they're pretty much the same. but the most important aspect that we should be looking at is from where this calories are coming from. carbs or protein? if a dog food is low on protein, then definitely the calories have to come from carbs, and vice versa. and IMHO, i rather have it come from protein because thats wat their diet should be anyways. MEAT smile.gif

if you can, then defintiely Raw diet like what rayne is feeding scottie will be best.
