It's a relatively easy job that any cobbler shop can do. Just a matter of workmanship. I personally ask for no nails and no stitching. Just contact cement.

Any photos of past installations you had done? I want them to be flush with the sole which requires cutting off a layer of the leather sole, I think most cobblers just stick a rubber piece on top of the sole.

Yes they are flush. I've already posted them at least twice in this thread, I'll see if I can find them.

Does anyone know where I can install flush rubber toe taps?

Thanks!

I wouldn't send it to "any" cobbler. In order to make the toe tap flush, the cobbler needs to slice a portion of the original sole. There is a risk that the cobbler might cut too much of the outsole stitching and compromise the integrity of the sole in that area. If a metal toe tap were to be installed, it might not be such a big issue as the screw would make up for the weaker stitching. However, rubber toe taps are typically held by glue. The one in the picture has brass tacks, but they might be decorative since they don't hold as well as threaded screws.

The most proper way to install a flush rubber toe tap on a goodyear welted shoe is:

1) slice off a portion of the leather sole
2) remove old stitching on the toe area and restitch (by hand) using the same hole on the welt
3) glue on the flush rubber toe tap. The rubber portion can easily be repaced when it is worn out since the stitching is not affected when the rubber is removed.

Only cobblers who are competent enough to do a full resole would be able to do the job properly, and I don't think there are any in malaysia. I personally would not bother doing it and go for a full topy instead. Some manufacturers offer a service of installing a metal toe tap, so that is a good alternative if you are buying new shoes.

Having said that, the risk of compromising the stitching on the toe is low, so you might get away with skipping the restitching step. Just keep in mind that there is a risk involved that local cobblers might not be able to fix if they were to make a mistake.

Not if you use it properly. Less is more.

I just won a bunch of Saphir products for an online shoeshine competition. It was good fun and helps replenish some of my current polish.

Shoes not included lol

I realised that! I won about £150 worth of Saphir products. The other time I won a filled Loake Valet box as well but I only used the box haha.
Also sometimes I get given polishes when I drop by some of the shoe shops.
Tbh I have too many brushes now, perhaps about 12?

Hi all in need of some guidance

Am thinking of getting these Meermin's for work https://www.meermin.es/in_en/10150910190000...lf-e-negro.html

Will probably go for rubber sole since KL's weather is so unpredictable. My question is does anyone know the sizing I should go for in the Hiro last? My usual size is 42 euro or Loake's size 8 UK in Matrix/F fit. Also how are customs taxes for leather shoes since it's my first time ordering leather shoes from overseas.

No idea if both makes any differences. I have one where I use it to brush off dirt/dust and another to brush off the excess polish. I never use it for mirror shine as that would scratch it all up. I think you meant giving the whole shoe a sheen after a polish, then yes. The friction from the brush would do so.
