Hi guys, I'm looking to get my first pair of proper shoes, either loafers or oxfords. I'm eyeing Allen Edmonds but I'm kinda worried about buying something overseas and through the internet.
Anyone in the forum with personal experience purchasing Allen Edmonds online? Do you purchase insurance? any procedures when shipping? what to look out for? etc.
Or any recommendations for brands of similar quality that has a physical store in Malaysia? (Goodyear welted, re-craftable, quality leather upper etc.)

I have bought 2 times from here. So far delivered less than a week through DHL and import tax is already calculated for when you checkout.

These 2 pairs are bought from this online

Wow, those are gorgeous. Which brand and what model did you purchase? Did you purchase shipping insurance for them? How is the quality compared to AE? My apologies for the barrage of questions, just wanted to learn more before I invest in them.

both are Herring and cheaper of the lot (there are other notable brands in there too like Barker, Church's etc) which are on par with AE, difference is this is from UK and AE is from US.

If I am not mistaken insurance is already inclusive in the courier charges

RE the models I have forgotten coz really didnt pay much emphasis to the model just look which one that I like and is within my budget click pay and jalan hahahaha

I see, based what I've read online, they're service is excellent and they provide complementary shoe polish and shoe horn with every purchase. Is this true? Which line would you say is the best out of all the lines in herring? Loake? Church's?

If you are in KL, why don't you check out P Lal store? They carry Loake, Barker, and Cheaney among others. Loake 1880 is of comparable price/quality with AE and is my favorite line.

Since you've also mentioned other brands like Church, you can checkout Cheaney's Imperial line which I feel is on par with Church. It's about twice the price of a Loake 1880. But past a certain price, you get diminishing returns, so it is certainly not twice the quality.

I have 1 pair of Cheaney Imperial and for the price, I'd choose 2 pairs of Loake 1880 any day.

Great! A local store so that I can actually try them on. For a budget of around 1.5k to 2k, what would you personally recommend?

Loake 1880 range is around 1.2k only, so give that a try. Don't let that stop you trying other brands and ranges though, especially if the fit is not right for you.

This isn't a running shoe so it doesn't have any cushioning. No point having a nice shoe but never using it because you it's too painful to use.

Haha, yeah. For someone used to the comfort of running/walking shoes, the first time you wear these shoes, you get jarred with every step!

onlyBrown having sock promo this weekend. 3 pairs for SGD50. Basically buy 2 free 1.

Code is : VT3450

https://www.onlybrown.com/collections/socks

We are excited to be receiving 6 new dress sock designs from Votta next week. Guess what. For this weekend only, you can pre-order any 3 pairs for S$50. Mix & match from the existing collections if you like.

But good things have to be shared. So feel free to give a shoutout to your buddies too.

Always marry fine socks with fine shoes.

Place you order now! *use code: VT3450

So I received my order...

The colours are really nice. But the material is...meh. And the hand linked toe is the worst I have ever worn. You can definitely feel the seam. Definitely not smooth and unobtrusive as I have come to expect from socks labeled hand linked toe.

Will not be buying this brand again...

For that price, you should also consider Carmina. WJ & co in BSC carries them. Quality is much better than Loake 1880 in my opinion.

The best advise would be to try as many shoes as you can in PLAL / WJ & co and buy whatever fits you best. If you do end up in PLAL, try to aviod the "made in india" stuffs. You can never go wrong with Loake (1880), Cheaneys, or Barkers.

Loake has 73 wide models:

I'm sure P Lal has at least 5 of these models in store. I'm wearing a wide fit Loake as I type this.
