QUOTE(niakulah @ Nov 6 2017, 05:29 PM) Depends. Smooth calf leather? Black? Relatively easy. You can mostly cover it with black shoe creme. Try slicking it either with a smooth bone or metal spoon. If it's very deep, you can use something like Saphir Edge Dressing to fill it up. I've successfully done that before on the black shoes I posted earlier. Got a deep gash in the toe cap trying to exit a super-cramped toilet stall in Singapore. I can hardly see it now. its smooth brown leather shoe, where can find those polishers eh?

This is my first leather sole dress shoes. Have you encountered runny dye from the sole? And the main body itself would discolor with a few water drops. Guess should have gotten a rubber sole dress shoes first.

QUOTE(gruntz99 @ Nov 9 2017, 05:20 PM) Where can I get those black shoe creme and Saphir Edge? WJ and Co in Bangsar have the creme. Not sure about the edge dressing. I get all of mine online. Mostly eBay. Though I just noticed there is an official retailer in Indo. Found them on IG. https://m.tokopedia.com/semir

If you don't mind getting a brand other than Saphir, you can try Clarks, Larrie/Camel Active, Hush Puppies. They carry their own brand cremes. Parksons also usually have some in their men's shoes section. But if you are using quality shoes, I advocate going for quality shoe care products as well. Just get Saphir online. Unless your shoe care regimen is every single week, the bottles of Saphir will last you a very long time. A pea-sized blob of creme should be just about enough to do a pair of shoes.

QUOTE(niakulah @ Nov 3 2017, 02:29 PM) [attachmentid=9298994] [attachmentid=9298998] Maiden voyage of my Loake after coming back from the cobbler. After 2.5 years under a topy, the toe was wearing out past the rubber and approaching the welt. So I got my cobbler to take off the topy and add a rubber toe tip. Basically trying to achieve something like this: [attachmentid=9299010] Told him not to stitch, but he stitched anyway...not to the welt, but to the insole! So there's now a direct path from the outsole to my toes. Will see if I get wet feet next time I walk in the rain... Well I needn't have worried. Quite heavy rain this morning. Got my socks wet at the ankles from water splashing above the topline, but my toes were dry! So all good.

Hi all! I've just recently discovered this thread and I've found quite a lot of useful information since I've started to take a bit more notice of my shoes and boy have I been neglecting them!
I've been needing some advice on some of my existing shoes and perhaps some could advice me in the direction. I've had a pair of Hush puppies, really well built one's. I've been told they are goodyear welted (stitching is hidden under the rubber outsole). But the upper leather is coming apart! Is there anything i can do to save them? I've been applying shoe polish, on a weekly basis but it doesn't seem to stop the cracks from spreading!

I've been just told the same by a professional cobbler. I'll take note on the shoe tree tip, I plan to buy a few for my other existing shoes and I've been looking at a few places including Lazada and https://shoetreeproject.com/sg/shop/shoe-trees/ , such a huge price difference. Now I'll have to do a little bit more research on these. Unless there are recommendations on what I should be looking for at an entry level?

QUOTE(Kaka23 @ Nov 20 2017, 07:01 PM) Anybody got experience with starwax? The wax type or liquid bottle type is better? Jeremy Tok was waxing lyrical (pardon the pun) about starwax in this very thread a few years back. I bought some, didn't like it. Based on what I own and have used, Saphir>Kiwi>Starwax. Never tried liquid starwax...don't think I've even seen it before.
