Not quite the top tier mirror shine yet though. Haha
Yeah J. Fitzpatrick, got it on sale at 35% off, about RM 1,000. It's the Windermere in Mocha Calf. Actually it's now 50% off, but sizes are limited.

Got 2 shoe trees too, his trees are more lasted than Carmina and Loake's. At RM 180 per pair after 20% off I think it's a pretty good deal.

I'm still in HK at the moment and the Armoury sells one pair of Carmina shoe trees for RM 300...

Edit: I just noticed I put the laces the wrong way in the top eyelet... Ruined the shot. Haha

Hows the FJP do to you so far, after the breaking. Does it fit like a Carmina rain last? Really tempted to order via online, but need to figure out the fitting. Heard its as good as Carmina at a fraction of cost.

I have two JFPs. One is the Magnolia in the TMG round last in 7.5UK, which fits ok but has a little room in the toe and vamp. Probably could go down to 7UK.

Which was why when I bought the Windermere, I went with 7UK. But it fits similar to the 7.5UK Magnolia, still with a bit of room in the toe. It's not bad, toe area is comfortable. But because it's a 6-eyelet Oxford (rather than the more usual 5), coupled with my low instep, there is a fair bit of room in the vamp.

I don't have any Carmina's in rain, but I have tried it on once and 7 fit me the best, although I didn't really walk around in it much to really tell. Simpson 7.5UK fits me perfectly. Inca 7UK fits me very well too.

Who says JFP is a fraction of Carmina's price? They cost about the same. Personally I think it's hard to beat Carmina's lasts, which I find to be exquisite and refined (especially Simpson and Inca). I got both my JFP ok discount. They're definitely good and probably on par with Carmina but they are not cheaper.

Aiyo, why your feet so small?

Offloading for a Saint Crispin's? I resist the JFP until it has the cool discount like what you had experienced earlier, otherwise might head to WJ & Co to try or pickup a Carmina.

My feet are normal. Yours are gigantic.

Nah, offloading then because I realized I'm not really a loafer kinda guy. Not getting a Saint Crispin's, still above my pay grade. I'm not done with Carmina yet. biggrin.gif

WJ's pricing of MYR 1,880 (if they haven't changed it) is still quite competitive especially with today's exchange rate.

Damn, did Carmina just increase their prices in their site? It used to be €318. It's now €341.

Maiden voyage of my Loake after coming back from the cobbler. After 2.5 years under a topy, the toe was wearing out past the rubber and approaching the welt. So I got my cobbler to take off the topy and add a rubber toe tip. Basically trying to achieve something like this:

Told him not to stitch, but he stitched anyway...not to the welt, but to the insole! cry.gif So there's now a direct path from the outsole to my toes. Will see if I get wet feet next time I walk in the rain...

Went to WJ&Co today.

Wanted to snap up the Carmina but was thinking for a budget of 2k, are there better alternatives?

Looking at the double monk as we speak.

Did you ask him to grind a bit of the leather sole to get the rubber to sit flush? Wonder if this would compromise the original welt stitching at the toe area, since the leather that was grinded might go past the channel. Maybe that's why he stitched anyway?

If water gets in, the easiest solution is to stick a new topy on the whole thing. But I guess the whole reason you did all this was that you wanted to walk on leather sole

Yes I did. And yes I knew it would likely cut the outsole stitching to the welt, but knowing the nature of the saddle stitch (I'm an amateur leathercrafter), I let him do it.

But as I type this, I had a thought. Perhaps it is for the best, since the new stitches will help to provide additional strength to the outsole/welt and outsole/insole connections that have been weakened by the severing of the outsole stitching at the toe.

I went into this with the thought that it would probably be OK without stitches, since cobblers in Japan have done this many times (as seen on Instagram. @tanapansensei).

Looking forward to the day when I have the skills and tools to do this myself. I'm halfway there with the tools. tongue.gif

Depends. Smooth calf leather? Black? Relatively easy. You can mostly cover it with black shoe creme. Try slicking it either with a smooth bone or metal spoon.

If it's very deep, you can use something like Saphir Edge Dressing to fill it up. I've successfully done that before on the black shoes I posted earlier. Got a deep gash in the toe cap trying to exit a super-cramped toilet stall in Singapore. I can hardly see it now.
