Don't really use kiwi, I have it somewhere but shelved away now. Most of my shoes are shined with saphir.
My routine:

- Brush
- Renovateur (if needed)
- Saphir Pommadier Cream to cover any marks and to condition and then brush
- Pate de Luxe Wax all over shoe with focus on the toe cap and heel. Buff with cloth once it's dried. I repeat about 3 layers
- More hard wax on cap until smooth with a bit of water (spit shine at this point)
- Lastly top up with Saphir Mirror Gloss Wax (optional)

However once you get the mirror shine, everyone will be looking at your feet  sweat.gif  It's inevitable.

Lol.. new shoes always take a bit longer to polish but over time the shine is easier to achieve and maintain. Not sure how long it takes me.. maybe about an hour or more? But then much quicker after that.

Is it advisable to put a rubber sole on the bottom of new dress shoes? What material should I use and is there a cobbler that you guys can recommend in PJ or KL?

There has been extensive, and at times, heated, discussion on this on styleforum that I have been following for a few years now. And my opinion on it has also changed throughout the years.

So I ask you this; what are you trying to achieve? What do you think will happen if you put a rubber sole? What do you think will happen if you don't?

I'll give you my thoughts after you answer these questions.

I'm not partial to applying a rubber sole to a leather-soled shoe but I'm all for fully rubber-soled shoes (like dainite). The comfort is night and day, plus no need to worry about the rainy weather we have here.

Didn't want to damage the sole, cause I'll be walking a lot on uneven surfaces... but then again it's GYW and can be replaced.

Don't need to worry to much when I'm stepping on water after it rains but I do like the sound of leather soles when walking indoors...

Dont count on replacing your GYW soles in Malaysia. Last I heard the nearest GYW machine is in Singapore (Ed Et Al I believe).

Water + tarmac will absolutely ruin leather soles. Don't do it if you have a choice.

Have you tried Dainite soles? They're really comfortable and feels sturdy. THe only drawback is not the material itself, rather most proper dress shoe brands stock mostly leather soles and reserve rubber soles for a select few of their shoes (usually casual derbies).

Edit: Sorry, don't know where my reply went.

I would say give the leather sole a try first. Maybe a month or 2. See if you don't like how it wears. In my opinion it doesn't wear that badly.

Water is not a big deal, as long as you let it dry naturally afterwards, preferably in shoe trees for 2 days.

You walk on uneven surfaces? How about site visits?

I have put rubber soles on the shoes in the pic though. After about 1.5 years of wear. Only because I felt the toe was wearing too close to the welt and I didn't want to have to prematurely resole the shoe.

Thanks for the advice, will see how the shoe feels after 2 months and decide if I'll get rubber soles.

I believe it's normal. I checked my other shoes, mainly around the eyelet where it's been punched through and they are white. A bit of polish should blend those scuffs in.

Thank you thank you sir u have put my mind at ease. I was in a major doubt until today, dunno what keywords to google to get an answer, and dunno anyone in real life who know much about leather

ahh so it's only the initial part when you just bought your new shoes that will take 1 hour ? after that my guess will probably be around 30 mins or so eh? hopefully it's lesser, maybe around 10-15 mins i can spare because u know when morning rush to work not a lot of time to do things blush.gif

normally, if there's a scratch after mirror polishing, do you guys strip down the polish and start over? or just touch up with more polish?

Depends on how deep is the scratch. Most of the time I touch up. If there's actually a gouge in the leather I'd strip it down and fill it up with Saphir Renovatrice (edge dressing) before polishing again. Have only had to do this once, thankfully.
