If you use other SIM cards to test the phone and if it works that means it's not the fault of the iPhone. If you asked me, your problem is not solved - so give it a test and see if it works.

I believe it's a network issue. I've been having similar issues on Maxis the last few days.
How do I copy the new contact which is save on the phone to my sim card? Btw does the restore after the firmware upgrade retain my SMS?New contacts are stored in the phone.
