Go to your GPS Settings and double check these settings:-
GPS Program Port: COM7
GPS Hardware port: COM9
Baud Rate 57600
Make sure 'Manage GPS automatically' is ticked then do a soft reset (Switch off phone then switch on again)

Then stand under clear sky and wait patiently....
I know, GPS lock for this phone can be a pain in the ........ sad.gif

Under display settings, you can try set the brightness to max...
And make sure the Auto Adjustment is not selected, its too sensitive to light changes.

With max brightness, its readable for me under the sun and battery lasts for 2 days, not a problem for me as I charge it daily.
If you have matte screen protector it REALLY helps sunlight readability and it also practically removes fingerprint smudges... smile.gif

Another thing, has anyone of you used any leather cases from Noreve? (www.noreve.com)
Contacted them and they told me that the casing for O2 will be released sometime within these 2 weeks.
Like the design, read excellent reviews but the price, kinda ouchy but tempting.

I asked about Vaja cases too (www.vajacases.com) but the rep told me they have not planned on developing one anytime soon...
Btw, my friends bought Vaja cases for their first generation Omnia. Its just sooo sleek...
I tried PDAir's, can't help it but it feels a little el cheapo...

thanks for the reply. Actually, my setting is correct and I frequently soft reset my device. I wonder could it be some software conflict... I never hard reset my device as I'm too lazy to reinstall all my application... Is there any software out there that can use the diagnostic the GPS???

You need internet access for Google Map as GPS only provides you your location, but not the map. So, you need internet connection to provide you the map.
This is very different from mapking or garmin where you got the map installed in your device.

garmin mobile XT basically is a gps navigation app developed for mobile phones..how it works? you need to pay for it obviously..what it does is, it will lock your position using satellite..once the satellite locks your position, you can start navigating to any destination..

I think you don't really understand what is GPS...
GPS is a signal that enable you to know your current coordinate on earth. It info is basically useless (for layman) unless you got a map.
Google Map is a very small application that use google internet map (which is why you need to online). Without internet connection, you'll only see a dot in your screen.
On the other hand, application like Garmin and mapking have its own map (where you choose which country map you want to download). Since you already got the map inside your device, GPS alone can give you your location in a place.
I hope you understand my explanation..

hmm..if u cant get him, i'll explain in a more not so technical way
GPS = global positioning system, which is a system (or u can call it software wateva u like) to let u know where r u now. it uses satellite WITHOUT data transfer between yr phone and yr telco. so its free to use after u got the software (for instance, Garmin mobile XT)

thn, GOOGLE MAP is just an APPLICATION. just like LYN..a WEB PAGE to let u know where u r USING signal towers. so since its a WEB PAGE, u must pay for data charges when u use...c the diff now?

and yes, u can check yr route, and where u r now without GPS..just a google map will do. but u gotta pay for it and its SLOW SLOW SLOW!

Never seen the tv-out cable before also. But for the GPS, it is really slow in getting the signal

The GPS on your device just receive signal. It does not transmit the signal back to the satellite. Both google map & garmin/mapking will require pickup signal from Satellite to know where you are on the surface of earth. & these satellite orbit around the globe transmitting their position grid (we're just exploiting it). Thus the more sats you pick up, the more accurate it will be. It's just like your radio. You receive signal from tower station. The more tower signal transmitting, the more coverage you get. A-GPS is another great innovation, where by it can communicate with radio towers to pin point location faster than GPS. Yes GPS from Sat will take some time to lock on. Hope that helps.

p.s you need a map. As signal position only indicates in numerical form. you need to turn the position into the map thus, maps will require to reference to the coordinate from gps.

The map (actually images) will be downloaded into your device (I forgot which location...). But the map is a very small area map (just enough to fill up your screen), so when you keep moving, more images (part of the map) will be downloaded.
